Watch_Dogs |OT| PS4 would probably melt trying to do this

I just want to play some Watch Dogs and UPlay is down. Of course it would be.

I fucking hate UPlay, fucking garbage - I wanted to play with invasions and all that good stuff on, that makes Watch Dogs for me awesome and unique.

EDIT: Whoever pitched the idea for UPlay should be punched in the throat.

You guys are saying once the hack gets started during 1v1 hacking the person being hacked MUST find the hacker but whenever i'm doing the hacking and the guy starts to get far away i get a message saying "must stay in the hacking area" with a timer. What's the deal?

There's a part in the new xmen movie that reminded me of this game. Where the player scans to try to find a particular invader. "Where are you hiding." Also just the way you can find out about people with your magic phone hax.

When you are going to initiate the hack you have to stay in an area somewhat close to the target, the red is off limits. It's there so you just cant go to the other side of the map

How does the QR code side missions work? It says to line up the code through cameras but I never see anything to line up when I start looking around.

Loving this game so far. Played about 10 hours and have hardly even touched the main story, having too much fun taking out gang hideouts, doing the towers, stopping random crimes, even just profiling random people and hacking them is tons of fun.

probably not.

Think again.

This game has no prejudice towards anything, that's the whole point. Unrestricted ctOS data collection. But judging by your reaction you're not even playing the game yourself, or you would've known that.

I had my first attempt at some of the online stuff last night and it really is quite good fun. I love hiding in a parked car as the other player chases around trying to find you. I've hardly done any of the story at all yet.

I really really love the missions where you have to find the code on a guard and hack a box. Was doing a mission early in Act 2 (don't remember the name or which one) but it was
Near the water and there were some platforms you could rotate and several snipers.

The difference with this one compared to other so far was that the area was large enough to where I could access them all if I just stayed outside the red zone. So after finding the guard I found a laptop with a camera. There were barrels right in front of the camera's view but I knew I had to be able to move them somehow.

Finally it clicked that I needed to use the explosives to knock the barrels over so I could access the terminal
. All the while I was nestled right in the middle of the red zone with guards walking nearby. Really great stuff.

You have to get the whole QR code in your view. It's usually separated on several different buildings. There's usually a camera somewhere that can see the whole code.

But what i'm talking about happened while i was already hacking. I was at like 50% and it was saying "stay in the hacking area". Surely they wouldn't put all the burden on the hackee to stay close because if so people could just initiate a hack and then take off.

I'm cross posting this from the PC performance thread since this thread has more traffic. I'm not sure what to do to fix this and I can't progress to the 2nd campaign mission until I do. Maybe uninstall and then re-install the game?

Ok after messing around tonight, my crashing/freezing issue has something to do with the 2nd campaign marker on the map (where Aiden's wife calls about a party). I can play this game as long as I want but as soon as I get to within a few blocks of that 'marker' the game freezes up. Every time. WTF?

I love the smoke in this game (ps4). I constantly find myself driving and rupturing steam pipes ahead of me and watching the violent eruption. Just the feel and look of it is awesome. Thing of beauty. Love it

I also like driving and when i get to where im going, hide in car/cut the engine before getting out because it feels a bit more real but moreso because i like the sound effects of the keys and the engine going off. Haha

There should be some "shout" button or something to scare off criminal and trigger chase during crime missions.
We can't come too close and sometimes it's very hard to trigger chase before he kill his victim.
Also some non lethal weapons!

Actually, yeah it does. I've run into far more "Fundamentalist Christian" than "Muslim" when profiling.

And they're usually accompanied with making out with members of the same sex, "Online Purchases: Porn" and "Recent Online Searches: Rape".

That being said, I'm Christian and it doesn't bother me, but to each their own!

So, just to make sure I understand your post, in the game, Ubisoft has decided to show "Fundamentalist Christians" to be what Jesus called a hypocrite ("making out with members of the same sex, "Online Purchases: Porn" and "Recent Online Searches: Rape")?

I have to say I'm not bother by the driving at all anymore. I feel like this happens in most open world games with driving. I start the game, cars control strange and I'm not sure I like it. Once I spend some time with them and get comfortable I I get pretty good and learn to enjoy it.

I feel like the main thing you have to account for in this game is throttling, especially in the faster cars. Seems like most open world games before this you just mash the gas and go, while in this game you really feel the difference in the car's behavior when pressing the right trigger at various throw ranges.

I don't "get" the 1vs1 hacking.

Are you supposed to imitate the back door thing and run away? Why was the other players model some random dude but I'm still Aidan? I was half out of it while playing yesterday.

Yup. Random generator going to random.

Yeah, start the hacking and then you get a circle on the map. You both have to stay in the circle and as the hacker, you have to stay hidden. As the hackee, you have to track them down and profile them, then kill them.

So in any of the multiplayer games, you show up as Aiden on your screen, but a random NPC on everyone else's. As for the hacking, first you have to get close enough to hack their phone. This is the first stage where you hold square. Next, you have to install the backdoor. To do this, you have to press down on the D-Pad to initiate the hack, and then you have to remain undetected inside the blue circle that appears until the backdoor is complete. Don't forget you have one minute to initiate the hack, so use that time to find a nice hiding spot before initiating.

Best thing to do is to hack them and then go somewhere where u feel comfortable hiding/being and then initiate the backdoor

If everyone was aiden then ppl would just be looking for aiden which would ruin the game

Has anyone received a "connection error - Please check NAT type" when trying to do anything online (PS4)?? I have always had NAT type 2 but last night when trying to connect to any of the online modes I would get this error. However I have been able to connect online fine before...

Were the Ubisoft servers down last night (around 10pm EST)?

Took me a while to figure it out, there is a small car right behind it. Drive it into the carrier then raise it. Drive off, breaking through the fence. Profit.

Hot damn, I was stuck on that one last night too for like an hour. Sometimes video games make me feel so dumb.

Quick question on the online hacking. When you invade someone you first have 4 minutes to profile them and then after that you have to click down on the d-pad to start the initiation or whatever and then the percent starts going up. At what point is the other player notified they are in an online match? Is it right away once you join their world or once you profile them, or not until you start the download?

They appear in your game as a random pedestrian to stop it being easy to spot them.

Likewise, in their game you are a random pedestrian character.

The basic premise of hacking, if you are the hacker, is to get close to them, without them profiling you and hold hack button (Square on PS4) to install a back door, this hack only takes a second or so. You have a 5 minute window to do this.

Then you get 1 minute to initiate the hack (D -pad down on PS4). During this time the person you are hacking has already been notified that they are being invaded, but they have nothing on their map. Its a good idea to run off and hide somewhere before you initiate the hack, but you must stay within a set area on your own map.

Once you initiate the hack, the 0-100% progress bar starts, and the person you are hacking gets a big purple circle on their map to give them a rough idea of where you are. As they get closer this circle gets smaller, narrowing down where you are.

Yeah I agree with that. The driving felt really odd at first but I've got used to it and I'm quite enjoying it now.

Do you have to be in a specific range to initiate/hack the player? Just wondering if you can initiate the hack and hop on a train or something.

Anyone figured out the best way of getting the "Traced" Trophy yet?

It seems to be based on luck more than anything. You don't get any sort of alert when another person invades your game to tail you and there's nowhere to track the progression of that trophy, at least that I've seen. I've read elsewhere that the more you invade other players' games, the more likely you are to get invaded, but I haven't seen it confirmed by Ubisoft (though I may have missed it.)

I am getting this error as well right now. It worked fine since release day for me and nothing in my router settings has changed since.

Probably some error on Ubisoft's end.

Thanks! I guess I just have to pay more attention, I figured it was something like that, but I never seem to see any of it. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

I haven't really gotten to play much, but in the time I've spent with the game I've concluded either I'm playing it wrong or I just suck at it. I'm early on in the story where I'm supposed to
steal a car and deliver it somewhere
and for the life of me I cannot evade the police. I crash into everything and only a very few times has hacking street lights or barricades actually helped me. On a few minor occasions I've been able to elude the authorities for a while, but then they scan the area and find me all over again.

First you follow the player. Then establish a link. You get 5 minutes or so to do this.

You then get 60 seconds to initiate the back door and start the data download.

From what I gather: the player will be informed you're there as soon as you invade. When you establish the link, a circle will appear on the map alerting the player to the area you're in.

When you initiate the back door, this area shrinks, and continues to shrink incrementally as your download reaches certain percentages.

You need to stay within the radius on the map and evade the opponent until you've completed the download. If you're spotted, you need to escape from the area. If you're being invaded, you need to scan the area with your phone, identify the hacker, and try to kill him/her before they escape.

Whenever you play MP, you will always be Aiden. Your opponent will always be a random NPC skin.

Some tips:

If you park in a car, park it just like they're parked in game and hide. This tactic is risky, the player needs to be close to scan you, and it takes time to start the engine, so they have a good chance of either grabbing you from the car or hitting it with a heavy weapon.

The best tactic I've found if you want to stay in a car is to drive slowly around inside the radius, following the traffic and stopping at lights just like an NPC.

If you think about to get caught waiting at traffic lights, hack the light and cause a crash, use the distraction to drive by and usually your opponent will miss you.

If you reach the edge if the radius, drive outside it and turn back in. Take your time. You have 15 seconds or so to resume.

Dumpsters are OP. If you find one, jump in and stealth against the wall. 9/10 you can sit there for and easy 100%

If you're bing invaded and you see dumpsters, check them.

If you can get to higher ground, do it. People tend not to look up.

Don't stand in crowds. They're usually the first things to be checked. If you like to stay on foot, the best way to stay hidden is to follow your opponent from a distance. If they suddenly turn toward you, walk slowly away from them and try to move out of their line of sight so you can run to a new location. remember, you appear as an NPC, so use this to your advantage to slip away.

And get the grenade launcher ASAP. When you're invaded, and you spot a player, if they get in a car this little guy will be good to you.

And have fun! Invading is really great. You never know how the player will react, it can make for some really heart pounding encounters.

So I have to ask a stupid question. How do you actually start these pre-order missions? Like the Signature Shot one that I got with my Amazon order, or the additional PS4 content?

Ever see the film Drive?

Remember the opening escape scene?

Do that.

If you're not familiar. Take it slow. Watch patrol patterns, move through ally ways. Hide in the car and wait for patrols to pass. Then drive slowly by them.

The trick is to take your time and stealth your way out. As soon as you see a clear run to the edge of the escape area, burn it.

If you burn it from the start you will very likely get overwhelmed quickly.

So I downloaded the Watch_Dogs ctOS companion app for my iPad last night, and it is kind of cool.

After you DL it, you sync it with your uPlay and or PSN or XBL, then you add contacts. Once you are done, you are presented with the entire Chicago gird and you see little icons of your friends in game moving around doing missions and what not...

If they are available, you can challenge them, and you play as a police helicopter and they play in game on the PS4 or One. You follow them around the map using your finger to move the heli and you can control the traffic lights or blockers or even bridges to try and stop them. It is pretty cool.

The only issue is that I did experience some lag while playing on the iPad, as I would be following a friend, and then all of a sudden he was like 1/4mi away from me and I had to go play catch up.

Anyone else try this app yet?

I was totally in the same boat. I got to the point where I didn't have an issue with evading the cops with my hacking tactics, but then those goddamn ctOS scans started happening and I felt like I couldn't avoid them. That's where I was wrong. My problem there was I kept hauling ass. Once you evade the cops, take it a little easier. Head towards your destination, but don't be afraid to watch that mini map and slam on the brakes (or even turn around and go the other way) if a circle appears in front of you. Eventually you'll get to your destination.

Man the multiplayer is much more fun than I ever thought it would be. I'm enjoying it so much and I've only played the invasion mode... I still haven't been invaded myself though :(

Invasion has put my single player missions to a halt. It's too addicting. I think they should patch in actions for when you are invading someone to be able to hide in plain sight better. I want to be able to sit on benches, stairs, dance, pull out an umbrella when it's raining, etc. It will lead to people not hiding around some random corner as much.
