Watch_Dogs PC Performance Thread

Hmm dunno, it's looking better but still:

http://a.pomf.se/pslyru.webm

(i used both guys mods). TheWorse's effects are cool but do have some issues, worth it on the whole though I think.

If I could just enjoy such a smooth gameplay like this. Mine is 75% glitches and framedrops and the rest gameplay. I used both mods and the game now runs at about 20 fps. Im running a crossfire of 280x.

New Nvidia beta driver 340.43. It doesn't mention any improvements for the game, and after trying it there don't seem to be any performance improvements. I guess that leaves it up to Ubi to fix the streaming issues.

Implemented several performance improvements: this means the stuttering right?!

Implemented several performance improvements: this means the stuttering right?!

I wouldn't get your hopes up. They didn't explicitly mention the whole "we made the PC version run on a unified memory system" was fixed... so I would venture (since this is Ubisoft, and AC4 exists) that the game will probably not run much better for those who have PCs that are already affected by the VRAM issues. :(

It means all the work TheWorse has done to get the game looking its best at little to no performance cost will be for nothing since Ubisoft will patch out the extras so it will run better.

If the stuttering is not fixed I will de-install Watch Dogs and never buy a Ubisoft game again.

The stuttering has been made worse for me after the ~58MB patch released just 15 minutes ago. It now drops all the way down into the teens when I'm driving (from ~60), instead of the low 40s before the patch. It also happens about as often as it used to pre-patch. That's on Windows 8.1 64-bit, GTX Titan w/ 337.88 WHQL drivers, everything maxed except for Temporal SMAA.

I't just sad... hopefully that was a pre-patch, and not the actual patch that is supposed to improve things.

Tried it just now as well, and the stuttering is now completely bonkers. Will try tweaking a bit, but this isn't promising.

Oh God, how can Ubisoft defend this situation? Quite why they decided to employ such an esoteric texture handling system is completely baffling. The whole thing is embarrassing at this point.

And yet again it shows that ubisoft is the worst in patches.

No improvement whatsoever in my case. Still stutters alot with a 290x with big framerate drops when moving specially when driving a fast car.

I officially give up, already finished it anyway.

Guess I will stay in offline mode and rely on the community to continually show how fucking pathetic Ubisoft is as a company. This proves that are in fact fucking trash, the entire company. How they can stay in business treating their customers like garbage is baffling.

The patch didn't make things better nor worse for me, pretty much the same. Got rid of TheWorse mod before though, it seemed pretty pointless to me.

Everything max except textures high and shadows high + Temp SMAA. GTX 680 2GB.
Running a locked 30 except for very rare dips to 29fps.

Yeah, it's very disappointing, and I'm seriously considering purchasing the PS4 versions of Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed: Unity later this year. In fact, I'm seriously considering retiring from PC gaming, or taking a long break from it until current-gen consoles have aged considerably. I've done enough building/upgrading/tweaking and dealing with broken games for the past ~20 years, and I've just about had enough.

well, now the game is pretty much unplayable for me, before i had everything on high including textures and i was getting between 48 and 60 frames, after the patch even dropping level of detail and textures to low i cant get past 40 frames, this is just ridiculous, very disappointed, pretty much i lost 60 dollars with this game

my spec

i7 2600k @4.4
GTX 770 4GB
8GB ram
windows 7
SSD

You read like a Ubi shill...How quaint...

Bizzare, for me the game works pretty much exactly the same. I have similar HW, only AMD instead of nVidia.

Only change I noticed is that for some reason, Aiden does not put his hands into his pockets when walking anymore. Dunno whats up with that.

i just opened a new ticket with ubisoft support because they removed the option for live chat!, im asking for a refund, this is unacceptable, ill keep you guys posted if they respond

I'm not sure I understand. Are you suggesting that I should completely forgo purchasing Ubi games on any platform? The thought has more than once crossed my mind, but my point is to avoid the broken messes of PC versions they customarily put out. If the console versions really do offer a more pleasant experience, why wouldn't I give those a try? Again, I'm not sure how being "reasonable" has invoked that type of response.

Your post read exactly like something Ubi would pay someone to post. They are obviously trying to force their customers off the PC versions of their games, and have been for years. I was simply making observation of your post, didn't mean to offend.

How did you arrive at this bizarre conclusion?

Ubi has been trying to force people off of PC? So they spend millions of dollars to make PC versions to force people off of PC? Why don't they just NOT make a PC version? Seems like a pretty cheap way to force people to buy console games... smh.

Ubi is trying to force its customers off of the PC platform. This is a fact. The post read as such. I pointed out the obvious. Don't be confused by basic comprehension skills my good man.

I suppose those GPU manufacturer-game developer collaborations really are nothing more than "insert our feature" type deals maybe utilizing some of the manufacturer's development software? Because there's no way anyone at Nvidia keeping a close tab on this would have at any point thought this passable... unless they really don't have much sway or don't give a crap themselves? People on Titans are experiencing heavy stuttering issues and this patch isn't helping. Seriously? Lawsuit... that's what Ubisoft deserve, but they'll just keep getting sales anyway...

It's painfully obvious that Nvidia gives 0 fucks about anything besides their own delusions. They make money, they don't care who is fucked over as long as they keep making money.

This is such an absurd theory - what possible reason would Ubisoft have for that? They could just not made the game for PC if they didn't want people to buy it.

I mean, I guess it's a Watch_Dogs thread, but you're being a little conspiracy theorist, dont'cha think?

Obviously I am the only one that can comprehend when companies fuck their customers. Sad that it goes over most of your heads, but I can't get mad at lousy comprehension skills no skin off my nose. :D

Back on topic. Has this patch actually helped the performance problems for anyone?

Fair enough. I suppose I could've been a tad less dramatic in trying to convey my deep frustration with broken PC ports.

I had this theory about some companies too...when I was twelve.

I love the way Ubisoft addressed the problems as being caused by the "split memory concept" with the way they framed it. The way they referred to it as a "concept" implies it's some deviating and unproven notion or something, not the standard of PC gaming/development and then the blame was placed on it rather than a failure to apparently even consider the fact that's it how PCs work... when the PC was supposedly the lead platform. I can even remotely comprehend the incompetence of whoever made the decision to develop like this and the patch after 3 weeks, after a half a year delay, after several years of development and downgrading... from one of the largest and most experienced game companies in the world.

The sheer stupidity that must have went into these decisions... or the brutally cold financial efficiency calculations that might actually be paying off for Ubisoft despite the issues. I don't understand how this is sustainable, but apparently it is. Did they literally just scrap everything about the real PC build and try to duct tape the current build directly from the console versions in the last month or something? This is just shit programming, no reasonable effort or competent design planning could have possibly went into this.

I had this theory about some companies too...when I was twelve.

The writing is on the wall. Nvidia doesn't give a fuck, and Ubisoft releases broken products on the PC to encourage purchasing on console. You seriously can't comprehend facts that are dancing right in front of you?

I think we're witnessing a breakdown.

Fuck Ubisoft. Just really. Fuck these fucking pricks and their fucking patches that improve fuck. And fuck that fucking stuttering.

Yeah, the stuttering seems much worse now. Instead of just a bunch of minor hitches while driving, it's added major hitches as well. Definitely don't upgrade if you haven't yet.

Guess I'll wait for a patch that patches this patch before I play again.

A sure way to induce frame hitching is to have the audacity to turn your car a few degrees to either side while traveling at speed. The hitching seems to be completely a streaming issue as none of the CPU cores on my i7 3770 hit 100% at any point while playing. You turn a little bit and the game starts buffering new assets. The only real solution seems to be reducing the number of assets it's loading at any particular moment.
