another question to the xseed rep, will you guys be releasing the dlc packs japan had for this game aka the Dona dona/sayo, shinsigumi, weapon packs, and some other pack they had?
ps found out that the samurai from wots 1 is not playable... but if the dlc is brought over then DONA DONA is :D

you can probably find the old games for dirt cheap at GS now, Even though lots of people didnt like 3 i ended up liking it over 2 anyday(may have been due to the horrible dub that it got in the usa) but play the first one as soon as you can before playing the others(as it kinda feels like playing mass effect 2 or 3 then going back into 1... kinda restrictive) just make sure you dont buy wots 3 on the 360

There's too many times in the game where I want to choose a neutral option only to find out that there isn't one and my guy does something stupid instead

We are planning on releasing DLC later down the line. I take it you're a fan of the man? ;)

Don't worry about taking the silly options. I know that feel of worrying that you're making the wrong choice or irreversibly screwing up your run, but in Way of the Samurai 4 don't stress. Every time you beat it and start up another a playthrough, the city does reflect some of your decisions, but you can totally follow the same path and then choose the options you passed on before. You won't miss anything and you get rewards for playing through multiple times, so don't feel like you're locked into one perfect playthrough. Experiment, go nuts. It's worth it for all the story lines and unlockables.

thanks for the info about the dlc :D (as long as you guys dont make a monthly release of it i'm fine(IE like koei with warriors orochi... game came out a long while back and they are just releasing it monthly here in the usa... please make it bi weekly if that or all at once :D)
otherwise great game, only wish people would stop saying Bad graphics = no buy... since when did graphics need to be good to make a good game. I'll use word of mouth to get more people to buy this good game.

Last time I played a game in this series was the first game on the PS2.. I remember enjoying it quite a lot. I'm definitely looking forward to checking this out once it arrives on the PAL store.

A Shinsengumi costume DLC pack was offered for free from March 24 to April 27, 2011. After that, it was priced $6. Players need to apply a patch before using any downloadable content.

Hijikata Toshizō and Kondō Isami are among the downloadable Shinsengumi characters.

Dona Dona from the original Way of the Samurai and a grown-up version of the character Sayo from Way of the Samurai 2 are also available for download. Sayo will appear in the road and offer rice balls.
not sure if we are getting Sakamoto Ryōma since he was in the WOTS 4 Plus edition.

Pretty sure Ryoma was a pre-order bonus character.

Also, anyone willing to gameshare the PSN version until the UK release? Having to wait two extra months sucks balls -_-

Those who have bought it, how big is it? I want it but I'm dealing with space.

I havent played once in a long time. Whats the consensus. I used to love this game.

The new sunset slash or whatever it's called is so much more fun than the million kill QTEs in WOTS3.

Just go berserk on people, it works amazingly with bare-handed.

Still wish there was a way to levelup health/vitality. Everything is tied to weapon skills now so I'm just gonna have to keep searching for a toughness skill or something that'll buff my defense. Even on easy I've ran into enemies that do 1/3 to 1/2 my life with one strong slash(though they do involve some high-end quests).

Money really hasn't been a problem due to some very well paying jobs. However if your jobs involve a lot of killing or stealing the crime rate goes up. This means that shops carry less stuff and they raise their prices...this can get pretty dramatic when dealing with the blacksmith. Doing missions that involve helping others like the homeless or doing a lot of shopping can lower the crime rate, which in turn lowers prices and shops sell you more stuff.

The missions are much more sensible this time around. In WOTS3 you spent a lot of time just looking for random things all over the map. Here the directions are really clear and as soon as you enter the area you'll get a notification if your mark is nearby. Also no granny panties to look for...ugh.

Be sure to enable online in the options menu. This causes other WOTS4 players to "invade" your game. The actual player doesn't invade, it's just his custom character with whatever move-set and clothes they might be wearing. Still it's pretty cool and they drop their sword and possibly some other goodies when you kill them. Also you could run into...yourself wandering the streets and kill them.

I figure Hari Kari difficulty has everything kill in one hit. That sounds like a nightmare although I guess if you get the fighting tournament ending it isn't too rough just to get the trophy and get out(just sleep for a few days and then stab three people in a row...no problem...right?).

It's not coming to pal store. It's supposed to have disc release. Could be extremely limited.

I love the series with all my heart. I want this so bad! :(

you will have to also do the tutorial too :p. but it shouldnt be that hard... R1 is your best friend.

I don't think so. It's pretty easy to take a side-path and avoid the whole battle. Then come back later and the carnage is already over.

Just got a patch for v1.01...that's odd.

4 endings down and I know exactly how to trigger another one.
Moving on to normal difficulty. The weapons that drop have better stats than on easy but again, getting killed can happen in a hurry due to lack of defense/HP. Anything with a bit of wind-up can destroy.

There are weapon-skills that boost defense and lessen stamina drain at least. Gonna have to look out for the strongest ones so I can start putting together my ultimate book of attacks.

Also gonna spend a lot of time building up my dojo. The challengers are sure to give up a ton of skill-books and other good stuff.

I've clocked in at about 6 hours and i haven't beaten the game once..i love it, reminds me of the best parts of WOTS 1&3 combined, my dojo is fighting of challengers by themselves, i've romanced an old chica and i think i've been doing jobs for a serial killer :(

Current favorite Dialogue Option:
"Hurry up and fix my sword B-----!!"

WOTS is back, this is the real deal.

This will be my first WotS game.

Enjoy, don't be in a hurry, talk to everyone and stock up on whetstones and dried fish!

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Well I saw gameplay video and it was tearing constantly to where even people who don't notice would.

It does have a large amount of tearing and frame rate issues all over the place. WoTS4 is a pretty-ugly game...but the content makes it fun.

Regarding Day 2:

Has anyone managed to escort the Lecturer into town? Every time I try, his pathing is so wonky he just runs around, and I'm left to eventually fight an endless spawn of Prajna; they eventually kill him. Also, if he's killed, will I be able to learn English later?

Can I PM you and ask you about a certain part?

Also, is there a quick way to get to the title menu/load a past game?

Sure but I have to work all day today so wait until late.

And I don't think there's a quick reset. I've mashed out every button combination and had no luck. Your only chance is if you steal something, allow an officer to knock you out and then
fail the torture minigame
. If you're on a harder difficulty a random ronin could take you out as well.

In the last game I remember doing a ton of quick-resetting to min/max my gains from the blacksmith. Now it's hardly even worth it. Especially since stuff like titles gotten from appraisals are actually fixed.

Regarding your spoilers:

During battle you can talk to the lecturer, tell him to follow you then just hold down R2 and dash through everything, he should follow. You don't learn English but in order to get the best ending the school must be open (don't worry, if you do this on one playthrough it stays open for subsequent playthroughs unless you take on a mission to close it down)

Enjoy, don't be in a hurry, talk to everyone and stock up on whetstones and dried fish!

And medicine as well. On the later difficulties if you guess wrong or get opened up by a parry you can stand to lose 1/2 to 2/3 to hell even your entire life in one hard stroke. Sure being able to save most anywhere alleviates most of the pain but there are a few areas where battles take quite awhile and you'll need all you can get.

Also apparently you'd do well to be a wary of a Samurai that goes by the name "I don't know". I've checked my online record and she already has a few wins under her belt. Although if you beat her you might get your hands on a pretty nice 220+ ATP/1900+ DRB sword(waiting until I can slap the 120+ ATP title on it).

Thinking of picking it up... but $40?!

Anyway... is this like Gintama in videogame form?

Anyway some hard numbers

2:20 - The amount of time it took me to complete my first playthrough. Yeah it's a short game but the replay value is immense. I've put tons of hours into WOTS1 and 3.

Two hours!?

Really if you know exactly what you're doing a play-through can be very short.
In order to unlock everything you're going to be doing 10+ play-throughs, more like double or even triple that depending on what you're going for and if you're trying to get all of the unlockables.

I didn't realize this. so basically each playthrough end you use that progress to start a new game? Makes sense. Also, I found out if you go to the Boatman you can exit to the title menu. It acts as you're ending that playthrough but it's the quickest way to get there.

Thanks for your input, I'll try that. Now that I realize I will be doing multiple games, I don't have to worry about getting everything in.

2 hours is good if you aren"t doing any side quests at all, some of the questlines you get from some of the people around town can take a while, i'm 8 hours tota and have yet to leave the 3rd day. i'm glad time stands still unless you push it forward with a story quest, nightcrawl or sleeping!

Question for those who have finished the Thief behind the house quest lines
i killed the constables after finding the bodies, and i try to go into the stone doors in the back of the home and i can't seem to get in..anyone know how what to do? i went back to the thief, and spoke to him and he acts like i haven't even started the quest, i go back and sure enough the constables spawn again..those mofos hit hard, Dojima helped me though, both times, glad i finished that quest beforehand..

you rule,i did not know this, i've always seen him standing there like "try me" , now i have a way to end without waiting for the mini game to fail!

Is it easy to understand what you should/could be doing in WOTS4?

I'm interested in buying but I remember trying WOTS3 and just being totally confused for about three hours. Then I gave up.

very straight froward for the most part, they mark important quest items or people on the map , and tell you when you're in the right area for a quest, and whether your target is in the area..i haven't had any problems doing what i need to do, although certain quests can overlap and depending on the circumstances keep one or the other from happening, story quests have precedence.

CAN SOMEONE TEST THIS?
----
SOFT RESET!!!!
Bad roll on your sword upgrades? Accidentally got arrested and messed up the timeline for your story? Killed an NPC when you actually wanted to be friends? As long as you have been saving frequently, hold L1, L2, R1, R2, select, and start to soft-reset so you can reload from save.

Didn't work for me :(

I like that other peoples Samurai's can invade your game if you're playing online, i have yet to run into any one, but if you see Cham sung running around and you're still trying to get a grip of the game.. RUN, evidently the AI plays me better than i do, and tends to one shot weaker players..

Didn't work for me :(

so evil..they took it out of the NA version -__-

i hope the unbreakable weapon thing still works, thats my only sore spot with the game, i'd like to be able to cut through 100 yakuza without having to run and go repair after i run out of whetstones.

There are many, many routes in WotS games. The third game had, what, 30 endings?
With all the swords and costumes, it's ridiculously replayable.

So this will be my first WotS game... should I start with 3 or each game is standalone?

Also, seems that the "proof of life" feature is constant and changes for each playthrough - so basically the game is infinitely endless?

You can jump straight to 4, since all of the games are standalone. I've played the hell out of 3, but 4 seems like a huge improvement in everything from what little I've seen.

Shame to hear there's only 10 endings compared to the third game's 22 endings though. Game better make up for that in everything else!

If you ever want to play 3 and 4 ... i'd say play 3 because going back to 3 from 4 will feel akward... like playing DA2 then playing origins on nightmare.

Think I'm gonna shelve this until a basic FAQ is written; I keep getting murdered in fights where the other guy has like infinite health cause my sword is about as damaging as a pool noodle.

Well I've been playing it and enjoying my time a lot. It's fuckin' WEIRD. I dig it though. It's fun-weird.

I gave this game a ten. Yeah, it has issues, but man is it some of the most fun I've had all gen. So good.

Those NPC player generated dudes are fucking silly, and I mean that. Start creating some weaker guys, geez.

EVERYBODY should start on EASY..
Especially if this is your firt WOTS game, its still challenging, but lenient, find a sword and style you like and level it up , and go to the blacksmith to up its attack STR the magistrate area has a quest giver who ask you to kill gambling hall yakuza, yse it to level up your sword and flee when you are out of supplies, when your sword is 150+ on easy you're good for the endgame..take it slow and easy and get into the story..
