Way of the Samurai 4 |OT| $39.99 @ PSN for Megamelons

Huh, I was all set to pass on this game but the trailers and impressions have really piqued my interest. 39.99 is a bit much to risk on an unknown property that I can't resell if I end up not liking it though. Think I'll wait a while and hope for a price drop down the line since XSEED is pretty good about that on the PSN. I don't like not supporting an XSEED game at launch when I'm interested, but it's hard to justify a $40 digital open world game when I just got Sleeping Dogs and have a number of other retail PS3 releases to clear out of my backlog.

$39.99 is a crappy price but if you want a real unique experience please get this. They just don't make games like these anymore. Loving it so far and having a blast.

Does anyone know a good place to get American PSN cards that are e-mailed to you? I'm in the UK, tried HDmoviesource, they said they don't email to new customers. Fuckers.

very straight froward for the most part, they mark important quest items or people on the map , and tell you when you're in the right area for a quest, and whether your target is in the area..i haven't had any problems doing what i need to do, although certain quests can overlap and depending on the circumstances keep one or the other from happening, story quests have precedence.

Much appreciated! I really, really wanted to enjoy 3 so if I'm more likely to be able to figure out what's going on in 4 then it's a go.

i really want to enjoy the setting of this game..i'm still torn to see if this is a good game or not .

i have a question i saw that a lot of customisation is possible . Is the gender changeable ? Do that affection /story/quest and so ?

that has been an ongoing joke for the guys at spike/aquire, techniqually the game calls you a sir, masculine, him and never her (been that way in the first 2 games which allowed for female PCs(which werent just cloned npc skins) but you can make a female in consecutive gamethrough due to it being an unlock but alas no it doesnt change your story.

You can buy digital $20 and $50 cards from BestBuy online, I've used them a number of times, they email the codes out fairly promptly and only charge you face value for them.

Eight endings down.
-Got a 5-star rating for my dojo..whoo I guess.
-Mastered the ABBA sword-style. Yes I created it myself. It uses most of the moves from the Tesshin style which is awesome. 75% buff to defense? Amazing shoulder tackle that launches? Hell yes.
-Can handle normal difficulty pretty comfortably. Wrecking everyone with the sword I nicked off the final boss and grinded out to 300+ damage (and I expect it to go even higher)
-Got the Samurai Lord title. All it takes is a little good behavior and a bunch of honorable decisions.
-Clothing options for women are pretty cruddy. I've been trying to get a little inventive with the accessories. Since their sizes can be changed and they can be placed literally anywhere on the body, I've got some unique ideas for clothing options.

So much to do! I've still yet to pursue the night crawling minigames.

if defeating an invading character netted you the owners stylebook as well as their sword, i would really want to meet your character, ABBA sounds awesome. There would be something in the air that night for sure..the constable i shoulder butt into the stratos.

Just kill Dojima until he drops his Tenshin swordfighting book. It's his style(explains why he's quite a tank).

heh, i killed him at exactly 3am last night as retribution for all his earlier incarnations in the prior games breaking mah sords.
i think i'll start leveling it up then!

in other news..

Bought this a couple of days ago while finishing up Sleeping Dogs. Played a couple of hours worth today and a few questions. Is there a way to regain health without using an Inn? How do you use items?

when you have an item that you want to use showing, up on the dpad uses the currently shown item, you scroll through them with left and right..

you regain HEALTH(green) through stamina, each time you're hit, you lose HEALTH(green) as long as you have STAMINA(purple) your health goes back up when you stand still.. there are foods that regain STAMINA (purple) as long as you have stamina, you can regain HEALTH(green) once stamina runs out, your health won't go back up when you stand still..

you can buy health items by going to vendors and buying meals, or buying rice buns , carrots, eggs, etc, you can only hold so many items..once you get further in the game , you can craft swords that auto regen stamina when you stand still..buy whetstones to bring your word durability back up, lest they break and you have to spend more to repair it..

I saw that there are parts for the sword "Laundry Pole" which yesterday I would have thought was just funny, but turns out that's the name of Sasaki Kojiro's sword, which I read about in a book this afternoon. Is there a guide to fighting styles/leveling up your sword? Right now I'm upgrading the Basal Blade's strength and wailing on dudes and hoping for the best.

At each lvl, GO to the styles menu and highlight your activated style, if you press TRIANGLE and wait you'll see a list of moves, your style levels up the more you kill until it hits lvl5, the locked styles open up at certain levels and when you click on it, it will tell you what you need to do to unlock it..hope that helps!

This game is fun. Why did I skip WotS 2 and 3?!

Really like how even though I can't be a girl I can at least make my character really effeminate.

Got my first ending, it was the Normal One. If you compete in the tournament does that always happen?

Fucking love it, way better than 3, which I loved as well. Graphics are an improvement from before, like the new style system, and the story branching is fantastic. Great stuff.

I've actually just started playing WotS 3 since the launch of 4. I was THIS close to impulse downloading WotS 4 because a buddy of mine has been flipping out about it. I decided to play the 3rd one first because I've owned it for awhile and BARELY touched it. I'm really digging the 3rd, to be perfectly honest. I've got 20 hours logged so far, 6 Endings seen, all costume pieces unlocked, about 50 weapons collected, and I've beaten all 4 difficulty levels. Needless to say, I'm a fan now!

The only other WotS I've played was the original, which I remember liking, but I didn't play it as extensively as the 3rd one. If WotS4 is as good as everyone says it is then it shall be a nice reward/treat when the time comes. =D

Not really.
Depending on which faction you side with the most one of them will ask you to fight for their cause in the tournament. Afterwards you'll get sent to a different plot-line that can split into either of two endings depending on a couple factors.

Oh and DON'T walk up to the podium after winning the tournament unless you're trying to get another (bad) ending.

I think WOTS4 is a far better game than 3.

It's a big improvement over 3, though I still like that one too. Only real downsides for me are less endings (but they're generally completely different to each other, whereas the ones in 3 are mostly variations), annoying weapon degradation system, and crappy framerate when a lot's going on. Oh yeah, and characters still fade when they move slightly far away.

Any news on the DLC, btw? Really want that Shinsengumi set. Also, has anyone managed to find a proper ninja outfit? Can't find any Black-fitted hakamas in the clothing store, even with a Great crime rate and trying on different days.

I hear most of the missing "black" gear can be obtained at the casino..if its open that is..The Amihara 8 questline is fun, pretty much a major storyline in its own right which can be accessed after finishing all 4 job broker quests to the point where it says "all quests completed" just make sure the hospital is already open and that you ask the Gambling den Lady to "help with expenses" to see the full story play out.

Make sure you kill all 8 before leaving the area to take their weapons and styles. Also, you can leave the area in the middle of the invasion to restock and save, which makes it much more bearable.

you can kill them in the invasion quest? i thought it was only possible to kill them all if didn't get the medical bill paid.

After you kill the boss and end the quest, attack some of the characters, and everyone will start attacking each other. So kill them all and loot their stuff. Be warned though, if you kill Sensei and Dojima, they'll be gone for good from the playthrough, and you'll have to do their quests again on the next one. Also, by killing the Eight, you won't be able to redo their side missions, apart from the Magistrates, because he doesn't participate in the quest.

Finally managed to get my second ending after being
boiled alive
again. They killed
Jet
, then I killed
Akagi
, then
Kinugawa
killed
Laura
, and finally I killed the
three sisters
. Was actually pretty awesome just going in and slaughtering everyone.

I also started working on a new style, how long does it usually take to learn new moves? Are the clothing store and the old lady in the harbor the only places you can buy clothing?

Certain styles take longer to level up, and when you do, you fulfill certain conditions to get new moves, which you can view from the style menu. You generally level up by hitting things.

The clothing store is the only place that sells clothes, while the old lady, the gambling hall in town, the casino at the harbor, and the foreign restaurant in the main plaza all sell accessories.

From Day 4 onwards, if the crime rate is "great" steal 10 medicines from the pharmacist in the Town area. Run into the food shop, eat until the crime rate goes back to great, go back to the pharmacist and sell the medicines. Rinse and repeat.

THANKS! I broke myself leveling up my swords -__-
I need a foolproof way to fight online created characters

I'll copy and paste a post I made on the Xseed forums regarding a rather annoying, unavoidable bug in the game.

From what I've heard, and from my own experience, there seems to be a bug where, if you unlock the dual wielding stance first, then the shinobi dual stance after, then the style you normally get with the latter, Hara Swordfighting, won't unlock. It's the same vice versa, if you unlock dual shinobi first and dual wielding after, you won't get the Dual Manifest style. Does anyone know of another way to obtain these styles? Otherwise, this seriously needs patching.

As a result, one trophy (Master all moves in dual wield stance/Master all moves in shinobi dual wield stance) won't be obtainable unless you make a new game, which is a major pain in the ass considering how long it takes to build up your character in these games.

It does a better job of explaining shit to you at the start, and there's a journal that lets you keep track of story events and what path you're on. But it's still pretty vague compared to most games.

The new weapons and costumes are great. However, the information part on the store says that the Ryoma pack contains new missions. Is that a mistake, or are they actually included? Haven't been able to find anything.

Even though I'm still completely confused, I love the dialogue so much

"You're all stupidheads"
"'stupidheads'? What are you twelve?"

Looking into it! And... since you seemed to enjoy the customization, you might want to throw your samurai up on the FB and win yourself some of that DLC. ;)

Haha. Yeah. The text was already pretty silly, and we did not shy away from it. Please tell me you've done the pottery smashing quest! :D

So overall how's the game? I may buy it 2morrow (EU disc ver.) and would like to know what the overall impression is on this game? Is there any 'depth' to the combat? I wouldn't mind simple combat if it was fun tho.
