I really like it. I do miss the silliness that Austin, Vinny and Alex got up to, but it's otherwise a really solid podcast.
I do wish it was just 20 to 30 minutes longer though. I feel that the 45 minutes to 1 hour length forces them to rush through points at times

As for enjoying the podcast, I love it, and if they could just make more of it that'd be great.
As much as I like the podcast overall, I had to skip past the ffxv analysis by Austin and especially Patrick when he mentioned that "I wish there was some prologue episode explaining relationships between characters"
I know that a videogame journalist doesn't have the time to consume ever piece of media out there but come on, both Kingslaive & Brotherhood solved / answered all of his gripes & he should at least be aware of their existence even if he hasn't had the time to watch both.
It's rather frustrating hearing two journalists who I like and are meant to be knowledgeable on the subject of videogames be completely oblivious to the companion media that answers and addresses most if not all of your gripes about a game.

They exactly expressed the fact that, once you need other mediums to explain the motivation of your entire character of the game, you fucked up. I don't wanna watch a movie or series to actually understand a game that I paid my hard earned money and made me more confused and puzzled on why things turned out as they did.

I mean, if the base game had a complete story; meaning that all the characters are properly laid out, the plot progressed smoothly, etc; and The movies just expanded on the fiction, then thats fine. But if I need to that, and the game didn't exactly fulfilled its presupposed promises of being a complete tale, then the have screwed up entirely.
In fact, Square Enix seems to agree with me considering they are patching the Kingsleive storyline into the actual game to give more context to the storyline.

They've mentioned the other media in other podcasts, but that's not that point. That should be in the game, not something else I have to pay for in terms of Kingsglaive and even if it was free, I don't want to watch it. I want to play a video game.,
Eh, I fully agree that SE fucked up by not including Brotherhood & Kingslaive into the maingame (more than just a few direct cuts and a half-baked reference to Prompto's childhood) it's just that if you are going to say that you didn't understand why a particular character or events occurred during play you should clarify with a comment like "perhaps it was referenced in the other media around the game" alongside / after the comment.
Anyway, if they acknowledged that in the past, then fine but for the sake of clarity it should have been mentioned again especially when you're giving your round up of the game overall.

Also, they are critics, they critiquing the game by what it got and what its missing in of it self. Not by its connections to other mediums.

While I do like it and all, I am tired of Bo-en getting mentioned again and again. i get that as a musician you need to get the acknowledgment and the credit, but repeating his name like 5 (maybe I am exaggerating a bit here!) in a single episode feels..... as much as I hate to say it, a shill.
Well as a normal consumer you wouldn't know and that is where I think we can all agree that SE fucked up.
The motivations / back story can be unclear or confusing if you come to this blind but as a critic you aren't (or at least shouldn't be) completely oblivious to companion media and it's rough synopsis despite not having had the time to watch it.
I don't really have a problem with them critiquing the game for it's short comings in this department, the problem I had is that in this particular discussion they seemed oblivious to any other aspect of storytelling that exists outside the boxed product. Irregardless of Square making a mess of their games storytelling, as a videogame critic, not knowing about the output of the publisher in relation to the product your discussing comes across as poor profesionalsim by not doing your research.*
*for the sake of clarity, at the time of my earlier post I was unaware that they had mentioned the anime / movie at all so this was my take from hearing the comments on the lack of explanation regarding motivation.

Waypoint's busy putting up fan fic and misses the Frog Factions 2 scoop. Patrick might have to lose the "Scoops" nickname over this.
Not a fan of this Waypoint GOTY stuff. Some of the articles are all right but I feel like they're presented in a way that makes me less interested in them, and obfuscates what they're actually about. Like Mike wrote a big thing on Inside but you wouldn't know it since the headline and the "yearbook" intro doesn't really let you know what the article is. The fanfic and "random superlative" type stuff is really dumb too, and (IMO) not in a fun way. I get they want to be different but I'd rather they just publish a bunch of good articles looking back on games and stories from throughout the year without the silly theme.
Basically, anime is for jerks.

Yeah the GOTY stuff is way too heavy handed, weird, awkward, forced whatever term you want to use. I can hear Danielle echoing from a few podcasts ago "don't kink shame," and I don't want to too, but the anime fanfic stuff is just not interesting and feels unnecessary. I get they want to be different and inclusive and all that, and I think they do a great job of that overall, but this is bad. I'm sure there are plenty of people who want to read Yuri on Ice x Doom Guy fanfic, but i feel like it's all way too hyper specific to ever really grow as a website. Love to Austin, Klep and Danielle, just want something better.

A lot of it is so specific, too. Like the whole theme is very US-centric. But then you also have to be into the game, the characters, fanfic and their take on it.
Guess it's awesome for some people, so have at it.

I've kinda swung back on forth on it. The concept seemed a bit... writerly (ie something exciting and creative for those involved, but barely functional in practice -- like the first draft of an essay or something). But then I realise it's this weird internet island I can visit that doesn't feel like anything else in its space. It's a little bit awkward but they're trying, and as someone who became a chronic worrier over the course of the past year: I appreciate the effort.
