We already know about the launch titles for next generation consoles, don’t we?

New boxes are potentially arriving in 2026-2028. It takes 5+ years to make games now.

From a first party perspective, I'm thinking that some, if not all, games we already know about right now might be launch titles for new boxes rather than late generation titles.

Boring, I know, but it would make sense.
Could still have scaled back cross-generation versions too of course.

They'll probably spread them out, year 1-3, but these are all potential next gen titles now as I see it:

Xbox:
Fable
Forza Horizon 6
Gears of War E-Day
The Elder Scrolls VI (not likely)
State of Decay 3, if still in development, should be there too. Pretty much everything we know about, well except The Elder Scrolls VI I guess, could potentially be there near launch on the next Xbox.
No point wasting big titles on Series if rumours are true that a new Xbox will arrive in 2026-2027, right?
Halo ain't going to be there near launch this time though.
Maybe they'll have a new Wolfenstein?
What else is there?

PS6:
Saros
Wolverine
Intergalactic
The Last of Us 3 (no joke)
Those could be there for launch or first year on the next PlayStation if it arrives 2027-2028.
Maybe a new God of War too? Cory Barlog is working on a side story, should be for PS6, right?
Gran Turismo 8 would be big, or maybe GT Sports 2?
Horizon 3 is definitely coming.
Spider-Man 3 is known from the Insomniac leak.

Are there any big surprises that could pop up? Realistically. If so, what?

I'm thinking (hoping) that there is another Uncharted in development. They set it up perfectly both for another Lost Legacy and a continuation of main Uncharted. Needs to happen!
And Bloodborne Remake by Bluepoint.

And Rare can't just make Sea of Thieves. There HAS to be new Banjo, Conker or Viva Piñata coming, right? Another Oblivion-like remake project would be cool too. I wouldn't say no to Skyrim Remake!

Half of the games in that list will never see the light of day.

Anyway, I'll play the rest on PS5 Pro.

For me next gen is about nanite and ray tracing reducing development times by killing multiple LODs and baked lighting, this won't affect cross-gen titles.

From a PC gamer perspective we're already there, that puts a wet blanket over the whole thing for me unless we'll get new exciting titles not already known. I just don't know what surprises we could realistically expect. Unless there are secret teams working in the shadows it feels like we know most of it through leaks and trailers without release dates.

Halo Combat Evolved Unreal Engine 5 Remake is very likely aiming for the 25th Anniversary release, along with the new console hardware.

From what Phil Spencer said in their showcase, I am expecting Halo - Gears - Forza from xbox.

Maybe Fable if it were being developed by a experienced studio in the genre. These types of experimental endeavours from MS generally end up with cancellations. Not sure if its happening but I wouldn't put them above that.

Also Strong chance SOD3 and/or Fable getting cancelled at this point along with that Blade game.
Blade is from Arkane. Its cancellation would be the end of them. Highly unlikely.

The Movie is in the shit and it not exactly top tier Marvel property. I think it has potential but i do think it might not see the light of day. They already killed half of Arkane so.........

Fable isn't getting cancelled come on. State of Decay 3 though….
A few months ago I would have agreed with you. However we saw more of Perfect Dark before it got cancelled than we have of either of those 2 games.

Nah man you need to stop worry about that, grim reaper Phil Spencer hasn't been seen smiling looking at their screen playing it yet. 💀

Seriously, Playground is their golden goose, they're safe. And they've been working on this thing for like 10 years. It's more likely that they cancel Gears or Halo.

Just still salty about Perfect Dark. I would take a next gen version of that game over Fable every day of the week.

Shame we are back to the trifecta of Halo, Gears and Fable. Hopefully at least one of these makes it out of the door next year without being completely average.

PD got lots of criticism for the character design and The Initiative struggled to get off the ground for a long time and Crystal Dynamics came in help. It was a troubled project tbh. Looked good in the virtual slice though.

Gears is my thing, no complaints getting more of that. Especially with Marcus in focus! E-Day is one of my most anticipated titles overall, Silksong and The Elder Scrolls VI are ahead but that's about it.
Fable has been gone for a long time, I'm excited for that even though I've never really played much of the older ones. Character design criticism is there again but they're so far along that I can't see them changing anything and certainly not cancelling it no matter what. Looks done. I'm thinking they're holding on it now to sync with the new system launch.

PS6:
Saros no idea on this one
Wolverine will release this gen
Intergalactic will release this gen
The Last of Us 3 (no joke) Next gen if it happens
Those could be there for launch or first year on the next PlayStation if it arrives 2027-2028.
Maybe a new God of War too? Cory Barlog is working on a side story, should be for PS6, right? Probably next gen. Don't they have another game they are working on
Gran Turismo 8 would be big, or maybe GT Sports 2? Next gen and totally forgot about this series
Horizon 3 is definitely coming. Next gen
Spider-Man 3 is known from the Insomniac leak. Cross-gen

Some fictional game that could happen from playstation
Bloodborne something this gen
astrobot 2 next gen
Ratchet and Clank will be next gen. I kind of figure they will start working on it after Wolverine.
Destiny 3 will be next gen. This makes sense to me. They can start working on this after Marathon bombs.

Xbox
Probably everything will be next gen since supposedly they are starting next gen early in order to beat the PS6 release supposedly.
Fable will most likely release this gen but I wouldn't be surprised if it is a cross-gen game.

If I'm being honest, none of that is bringing out one bit of excitement in me..

Most of those studios have been making some right old dross that has personally turned me off them

Call it woke garbage, call it whatever you want. But they just don't appeal, which when thinking about it is pretty bad considering most of those titles had awsome beginnings, to me 🤷‍♂️

I've been wanting a high tech successor to N64 Perfect Dark for 25 years now.

As soon as I heard about Crystal Dynamics needing to step in I knew the dream was dead

TLOU 3?
No, you'll get TLOU 1 and 2 remasters of the remakes.
At the rate ND makes games now, TLOU3 is a late PS6 game if we are lucky (or unlucky, depends on the pov, it will probably be another lame emotional walking simulator).

Unless MS reverses course on multiplatforming their games -and manages to convince everyone they mean it- will it matter what Xbox's launch titles are?

Spending zillions on Activision and Bethesda and failing to have an insanely strong lineup of at (or near) launch exclusives seems like a huge waste to me. They have the means at their disposal to begin the next gen in a very dominant position at least in the West, if they wish to. If they have a limp dick lineup and maintain the policy that their games are coming to PS anyway, I don't see how next Xbox isn't DOA.

I think it is much more profitable for MS to kill Xbox hardware (they basically lose money with every sale) and go all in 3rd party and PC gamepass.

Possibly, but then why make another Xbox at all?

I can see the logic in subsidising the development of a new platform and install base, then leveraging that to make money as the platform owner, and I can see the logic in not bothering with that and just becoming effectively a publisher. I don't see the logic in developing a new platform and basically sending it out to die.

Easiest win for Sony would be Bloodborne Remaster for PS6. They had Demon's Souls for PS5...

In every State of Play or anything related to Sony the chat is clamoring for Bloodborne. I think there's a good chance it's a release title for PS6.

Launch titles for Xbox.

Only Ps6 will be the only true next gen console face to face against Switch 2. Im sure Ps6 will have GT8, New Spider man Miles, and new Ratchet ,Death stranding 2 directors cut, and hopefully days gone 2, and bloodborne remake or sequel at launch. Xbox will not be a traditional console and will be is hybrid pc and logo and tech to be license to other companies.

How does Fable look done? Did I miss some gameplay? Genuine question.

We had those alpha leaks a while back and just a couple of trailers as far as im aware. Not much, if any raw gameplay?

Was about to post this. They'll want their biggest IP for launch along with nostalgia a remake of the original will bring. Not that I think it will bring in new customers but more get their hardcore fanbase bought in to a very expensive high end box.

New hardware announcements increase share values and while their install base is getting smaller every gen, it still exists.
If they can "steal" the 30% share from a few millions 3rd party sales that would go to Sony for another gen, it makes sense.
But unless something really big happens, I can't see Xbox still existing after their next console.

Saros and as I remember Wolverine are 2026 games, so won't be launch games. Intergalactic, Fairgames and Firesprite's next game (I assume Until Dawn 2), pretty likely will be late 2026/ early2027 games, so pretty likely won't be launch games either. Bluepoint did stop working in remakes with Demon's Souls, after it they only work as support team in new games, as did in GoWR.

PS6 pretty likely would release late 2027 or early 2028. Games that could match this timeline could be, Cory's 'new' IP (not a sidestory) and Horizon Online if not released before (I think a 2026/2027 release is more likely for both), Horizon 3, Gran Turismo 8, Media Molecule's next game, Team Asobi's next game (very likely Astro Bot 2), Bloodborne Remake (by From + Nixxes, Bluepoint would codevelop Bloodborne 2 instead, which would be released a year or two later).

Spider-Man 3 would release late 2028 or early 2029, around the same time than the next GoW that will bring Kratos to a new mythology, and the ND game that apparently started in 2023 -probably before at Bend- that we know isn't TLOU3 and I'd love it to be Uncharted 5, plus maybe the Dark Outlaw game.

There's also the ex-Bungie Team LFG game codenamed Gummy Bears ((Bungie registered Matter, which can be its final name). I don't know when they did exactly start its production, so can't estimate its release, it should release somewhere in the 2026-2030 window.

Regarding Rare, as I remember they are working on Sea of Thieves and Everwild, which got cancelled recently. So after Everwild they may have started to work very recently in something else that would take many years to be released. There won't be next gen Xbox consoles, just 3rd party manufactured consolized PCs. Any game released late 2027 and beyond (so at the PS6 release and later) will be released day one on PS and PC.

Fair points!
But Intergalactic is such a big title for Naughty Dog and it takes forever to make games now, I'm thinking they'll time the releases with PS6 to not end up essentially sitting out the whole PS6 gen. Will be cross gen though. Goes for most games I assume.
Wolverine though, yeah I think that could come this gen. Iirc it was supposed to arrive in 2025 going by the Insomniac leak. Spider-Man 3 is next gen for sure.

It's pretty obvious to me that the only unannounced games they will have on PS6 release will be Cory's new IIP and Bloodborne remake. Or maybe some thir party exclusive. The others will be remasters of Intergalactic and whatnot.

That would be almost as good as all the PS5 generation but just in the launch window.
Okay launch window was a bad prediction lol
Won't be everything at once. But if PS6 comes 2027 it would be perfect timing to start dripping out these big ones. I'm thinking they'll be spread out over a couple years.

Top of the head prediction:
Launch 2027-10
2027 - Saros, Intergalactic, GT8
2028 - Spider-Man 3, Bloodborne remake
2029 - Horizon 3, Cory's game
2030 - TLOU3, Ratchet

Can't see them arrive on PS5. Then what will they have for PS6?

They've shown gameplay but not uncut, just a classic chopped up hype trailer. Looked very polished!
Would fit perfectly to time it with a new system launch, I think it'll be the big game a launch. Gears will probably be there close by as well. And Forza Horizon 6 has been awaited for awhile already.
Halo is the big question mark, an UE5 remake at launch. I don't see it happen.

No really gameplay then, but I concur that the snippets looked impressive in isolation.

Can't really see Fable, Gears, Horizon and possibly Halo launching next year but I love your optimism. Just one of those would be better than the Series launch by some margin, never mind all 4.
