Man, I love this game to pieces, for me personally every single aspect is just incredible, the story, the dialogues, the characters, the music, the physics, the city and many of the missions are so good, but the state of the port on pc is a goddamn joke, its so broken with so many issues and problems.

We really need a remaster treatment like they did with RDR, this game is a masterpiece and deserves so much better than this. Please Rockstar

Rant out

Cant have enough of the soundtrack

While GTAIV was such a huge upgrade to HD, i remember feeling at the time it was lacking alot of content VS what we had in San Andreas, i think that sours it a bit for me.

Rockstar knew this aswell, The Ballard of Gay Tony DLC was them trying to address the lack of content that made previous GTA games so unique.

The MP aspect of the game was great in the begining, Cops and Robbers is still one of my favorite MP modes ever.

I personally wouldnt want a remaster/remake, i'd rather Rockstar use its studios/3rd party partners on developing new games.

I want a remaster of this game so bad.
Rockstar did such a good job creating grimey New York. Might not be my favorite GTA, but it’s up there, definitely my favorite characters, setting and story.

I worry that once 6 comes out, we can forget about this game re-releasing for many years, because they’re going to put all their focus on shitty GTA online, and aren’t going to want to take any players away from GTA online.

I think your screenshots prove we dont :D Just finished it again 2 months ago, game is fine as is. Those on PC theres so many mods by now, R* would never put that much effort to get the game to that visual state.

That last screenshot is definitely not vanilla.

For the love of god please R* if you ever decide to remaster GTAIV:

-Remove those damn barriers at the toll booths. Yes, EasyPASS was not a thing in 2008, but that's a fictional world. Let's pretend that Liberty City in 2008 had the equivalent of an EasyPASS. It would make driving around the city much more enjoyable. You have to travel from Dukes to Bohan in a dozens of missions and every time it is tedious as fk to do that cause you have to wait there.
-- Either reduce the traffic in the tunnels and bridges to a minimum, or make the roads there wider. Driving there in the current game also is very tedious because the roads there is very a narrow, a bunch of cars completely blocks the road and in tunnels and on bridges there is no sidewalk on which you can go around them. You either have to drive at the speed of traffic, in the damn game, or try to squeeze between the cars, which in most cases leads to a collision
-Adjust the time enemies sit in their covers. It sometimes takes half a minute for an enemy to show up
- Fix the flickering of the distant world
- Please make the graphics less gray. This filter is too much.

It needs more things, the LOD is busted, there is no anti aliasing at all, shadows look like crap etc. The game needs more adjustments than just performance
DXVK, Fusion fix and "Various fixes" mods.

With those three you get the remaster you need, the game looks and runs perfectly for me, though you might need to use a slightly older version of fusion fix because the newest one had some annoying shadow issues i'm not sure they have fixed yet.

Just go to the game's PC Wiki page and you should get all the info you need. It's worth it.

I don't see any particular problems, anyone can remaster this game themselves, using mods. And if you remember all the Rockstar remasters, the result from mods will be much better.

Rockstar should still fix their own shit performance. Game could easily go up to 144 fps+ but it doesn't.

Friend if you think the game is perfectly fine, good for you but I and many players don't think this way, in fact, the reputation of this port is absolutely atrocious online and for a good reason. If you want to play it properly you have to waste your time and go through a painful and time consuming process of installing mods and fixes, and having to learn how to mod it in order for the game to work properly. I did this in the past, in fact some of these screenshots are mine taken from older modded playthroughts, that being said this is not a good long term solution and the game deserves a proper remaster. There is no more discussion here, the port is bad and the consumer shouldn't have to rely on mods to make it work

I don't disagree, i'm offering a solution for someone who wants to play it properly now since the game will most likely never get remastered.

This is the reality for plenty of PC games, this isn't the only one. So i'm thankful that at least there are other options out there

When you launch this game nowadays on 4090 @ DLDSR 3240 120fps and remember how difficult it was to just run this pile of crap back in 2008. Almost want to shed tears 😿.

Lots of nostalgic memories.

I replayed it again on the Steam Deck OLED this year. Locked at 45fps, almost highest settings, and it ran great. The smaller screen hid all the graphical flaws (although I did not see any), and they game is still brilliant. Would play a remastered version again, for sure.

Best GTA game. Mature, gritty, huge scope for its time and hardware, great singleplayer add ons, awesome tech like deforming cars, physics and ragdolls ... it still feels good to play nowadays.
It's good but the money you earn from missions are useless. They are like points in older games.

Meh. Not for me.

I really liked GTA4s approach to realistic physics, but I don't like Nico's story.

I don't like characters that leave their old lives, in an attempt to build a better life, only to them reluctantly revert back to old ways, because... reasons.
It was a just a frustrating story, for me.

Wouldn't mind a remaster but it had to be a very good one, with updated graphics and everything.
That being said something i want more is a Chinatown Wars successor (top view GTA)

Honestly, I've never cared about money in a GTA game. You don't need it, all you need is lying around somewhere, guns, health, armor, cars...

Would possibly cause more problems, previous games in this series have physics issues once the FPS goes over 40
Grove street gon fuck it up
Hopefully Rockstar have learnt their lesson this time. The game needs a lot of changes to run better on modern hardware, rather than just running the textures through an AI filter.

IMO PC version doesnt need a remaster, because it always looked amazing (especially with mids).

However, a eventual remaster would make a huge difference on consoles. The PS3 / Xbox360 version ran poorly, looking worse than the PC version on low settings, and the image quality was abysmal because they used an ugly blur filter that tried to imitate the DOF effect.

EZ Pass was totally a thing in 2008, it rolled out in the 1990s. But… the game should stay as it is, flaws and all. Rework the engine to make sure it runs great on modern hardware, like they surely had to do with RDR1, but keep the game the way it is. I don’t want some nu dev mucking with it because they will mess stuff up.

Nah, this is when it all stopped clicking for me (although it started falling through with San Andreas). The arcadey feel of the previous games were a feature, but Rockstar clearly didn't agree. Crackdown filled the niche that GTA4 failed to for me.

EDMIX

Writes a lot, says very little
I'm actually surprised we didn't get a remaster sooner tbh

Rockstar love porting their older titles and it seems odd GTAIV just got left on the PS3 / 360 (same with Max Payne 3)

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.

Seemed like a realistic outcome for most that do that.

Yeah, while mods can certainly help, it would be amazing to have a proper remaster like RDR1.

On console side, If you have an XSX it’s not a bad experience, but resolution is still 720p I think.

I wonder how feasible a resolution boost would be on Series X. in terms of GPU power it wouldn't be an issue, but I wonder if something would break
