One laptop in our house is having trouble getting the internet, its wired, and it says "acquiring network address". Its hooked up the same as any other PC, and this just started overnight. What do I do?

Which OS are you using? if it's XP you can try to repair the connection to see if it's able to get an IP addres, if not try to ping yourself (localhost or 127.0.0.1) and see if that works... if that's fine, check your TCP/IP properties, make sure all your info is correct. Check your router's setting, and the physical connection itself.

Obvious, but sometimes the obvious thing is what you overlook, so reboot the PCs, router and modem at the same time.

"Acquiring network address" means it's trying to talk to the DHCP server. Shut down the laptop, reboot the router, then power up the laptop again to see if the problem clears up.

Also, do you have MAC address filtering enabled? Did anything happen that might have zapped or changed the MAC address (i.e. new NIC for the laptop)?
