Weirdest gaming-related pronunciation you've heard?

Yeah, we definitely would have to "speak" about it because "Marry" "Merry" and "Mary" to me are all pronounced the exact same way in my American English regional dialect.

I have a feeling that you would be saying something closer to "Marie" and "Maury" for a couple of those. :-)

Honestly, I would say Marie and Maury with different sounds, too. So in all five of those words, there are five different sounds.

But this kinda proves the point that it's so difficult to get your own meaning across to someone that naturally pronounces things in a different way anyway lol. Well, especially when trying to explain in words, at least.

Those complaining about people not pronouncing "Pokemon" the Japanese way might as well be complaining about the common pronunciation of "karaoke" too.

I read it as Onn-ett. I know the "One" is there, but "One-t" sounds so stupid that I can't accept it.

As a kid I pronounced Twoson as Twah-son, because a local city here (Vancouver area) is called Tsawwassen, and that's a common (though I guess technically incorrect, it's more like "sah-wah-sen") pronunciation of it.

I also definitely called Deus Ex deuce ex for a very long time.

Its oh-net

And I still call it doos ex when I'm feeling saucy knowing full well how it's actually pronounced. The original release even had a pronunciation guide on the case

I used to say caboo (as in caboose) instead of chocobo. It wasn't until middle school and having played most of the US Final Fantasy games that a friend corrected me when discussing FF7.

In DOTA there's an item called Mekansm. Supposed to be pronounced exactly like "mechanism" but I just hate that fucking stupid style of spelling so much. "me-kan-sam" all the way.

How do you pronounce Onett?

I knew a guy online who swore it was pronounced "Oh-nay".

It's One-t.

No. No God no no no. Nooooooooo.

It's Oh-NET. Rhymes with "forget."

Yes there is a pun in the town names (Onett, Twoson, Threed), but it does not extend to pronounciation. That's as stupid as the band in "That Thing You Do" who thinks they're being clever naming their band "The Oneders" ("wonders") and then bitching that nobody pronounces it "correctly."

For some reason I thought the Pokemon Kyogre was named Kyroge.

When I realized I had it it wrong, I went to the name changer to nickname it "Kyroge" so I would remain correct.

Yeah I don't know what I was thinking.

I pronounced Y's, as "why-z" for years. Until I heard someone pronounce it "e-z". :)

Back in the day, even after the TG-16 CD version of Y's 1+2 pronounced the name correctly (Intro story), me and friends still just call it Y's (Why-z)

I find it really hard to pronouce some of these correctly.. like Ryu... the habit is just so strong... lol

Not the weirdest, but people who say Laura when referring to Lara Croft strike me as ignorant. I've listened to interviews where the guy is speaking to a developer who is saying the name properly, and yet the interviewer continues to say Laura. I really don't get that. It's like: Lara? Oh we don't have that name where I come from, I'll just use a name that sounds similar. Ignorance.

Ee-kah-roo-gah. The first pronunciation you typed is fine, though.

Right, makes sense. I use that first one usually. I remember when I asked for it at EB the girl was like "What?" and then went "Oh, Ick." I'm guessing she didn't even want to try pronouncing it.

Oh right, GTA Eye Vee is another one. I like how in GTAV they've actually put "Five" in the title as to make sure no one could ever be mistaken. Sure enough I've heard "GTA Vee Five"

And another one I just remembered:
Majora's Mask: Major's Mask

Can you link such an interview?

My whole family (and most people I know) being Swedish and weird say Super Mario Bros but pronounce Bros as in "loose", "Super Mario Broose", lol.

Don't know how many people I've heard say "Wind Walker". -__-

Oh, one other, although I sort of love it for what it is, now.

Sega Rally.

"Gee A Em Eee Oh Voo Eee Arr"

Voo. Not Vee.
