Too early for flapjacks?

Fun fact: Harold Ramis originally suggested that Phil was stuck in the loop for 9-10 years, but later decided it was closer to 30 or 40.

In the original script (which was much darker), it was closer to 10,000 years; Phil tracked time by reading a page of a book each day and had managed to read through the entire public library.

Just watched the movie again today in HD. Such a fucking amazing movie.
Its perfect.

It doesn't need to explain anything. Just lay more subtle clues about how long it's been that people will only get if they're paying attention.

I see what you did there.

I love the idea that he could have been stuck in a loop for 10,000 years. I wish they had touched on it more in the film.

Thats cool and hten I started to think about what it would be like to actually be stuck in the same day for 30 years or even 10,0000 years. It kind of would take the movie into a really dark place.

I have to admit, I've never watched Groundhog Day all the way through. Crazy, I know.

Right now I'm rectifying that by watching it on AMC. Hate the commercials but the movie is actually quite funny and amusing! I can see why people like it so much.

Stargate SG-1 had an episode like it as well. It was pretty good, especially when O'neill started to lose it.

Next to the movie, that episode is my favourite take on the time-loop trope. "In th middle of my back-swing!?"
This thread is a little scary to read through.

at 400 pages per book on average that will be 9125 books. How many books would be in a public library the size of Punxsutawney?

I know a guy who owns 10 000 books, and while he's in his late fifties and has been collecting for his whole life, I would assume even a small library has that more and more.

When you watch this movie a few times, you really appreciate just how deep and brilliant it truly is. I didn't really understand all the themes of life and death, redemption, and destiny when I was younger, but watching it with my wife now that I'm older, it's clearly one of Bill Murray's best.

Finished the movie a little while ago. Really excellent. Can't believe it's taken me this long to watch it all the way through.
