I couldn't resist temptation any longer, between the Burnout Legends videos, GnG announcement and impending Pro Evo release I decided it was time to go plunk down the cash and buy a PSP, so I head off into the city, with one question for the sales staff, "Do you have any PSP's in stock?".

Gamestation:
Response - "Sorry, Out of Stock until the 14th of Sept."
Hardly surprising, it was my first choice of store due to their "any game" bundles policy, oh well, it's not sold out everywhere yet according to everyone, not to worry.

GAME:
Response - "Uhm, No, Yes, Uhm, Kinda... One Sec..."
He then proceeded to explain that yes, they are out of stock, however the reason for the "maybe" was that the manager had said that they had 4 or 5 PSP's held for pre-orders and that as they hadn't been collected yet the manager was going to put them on the shelves at 1pm, So I made arrangements to return at that time.

Comic/Game Store:
Response - "Sorry, out of stock, try next week."
Not looking as good as I hoped, maybe it would be difficult after all, I had no idea...

Virgin Megastore:
Response - "Sorry, out of stock, delivery due in two weeks time"
Ouch, 2 weeks? Sony are shafting you, others are getting them next week :P

HMV:
Response - Same as above.
Not looking good, that's all the "1st string" stores down, now we're onto the also-rans.

Dixons:
Response - "Out of stock - delivery due next week."
Managed to get them to phone both of local PC World's from the store for me to check stock there and save me a visit...Also notice a special offer worth remembering, Lumines for £10 if bought with any other game - deal!

PC World 1 & 2:
Response - (To Dixons sales staff) - "Sorry, No stock, delivery within the next 2 weeks."
Oh, but I thought... Someone said... Grrrrr.......

GAME Pt. II
I return @ 1pm, or at least thiought I did, turns out my watch is 15 minutes slow... Oh fuck...
Response - "Sorry, you missed them mate."
ARRRGHGHGHGHGH - Vennt owned by a timepiece, FUCKINGUNBELIEVABLEGFDGC!

The 3rd String stores:
These are the stores that I'll usually avoid at all costs due to insane bundling prices, gouging etc. but what the hell, I want one TODAY! :P
Response - "Sorry - Out of stock, try in a few weeks."
Shit, This not a small city, this is beginning to look baaad for my chances today, in fact looking impossible, until I remember somebody mentioned Argos was flooded with boxes & stock....

Argos:
Response - (From computer terminal thingy) - "Sorry, the item you requested is out of stock, please look at page 1162 for alternatives."
Alternatives? What alternatives, I want a PSP damn, and nothing else!... Grrrr.

Time for a break, a cuppa and a rethink, I've been up town for nearly 1 and a half hours and have run out of stores, even the market gougers selling value packs at £230 have sold out (I kid not, scumbags.) so I go outside the café and punch the first chav I see in the nose.

I can't fail damn it!
Then I think "fuck it, may as well look at the Xbox sections..." & see if I can't pick up a consolation item, and head back towards the Comic/Gme store, which is one my way home, I get inside, and had been looking at the Xbox games for 2-3 minutes when the sales droid comes over...

"Hey! - You're the guy who was looking for a PSP earlier aren't you?"

"Yes" I respond, getting ready to remove his facial features with my knuckles if he mocks me or gloats over my predicament.

"Have a word with the manager, hang on a sec...."

Turns out that they have one pre-order that has failed to be collected since launch last week, and I can have it. So I do, along with Virtual Tennis, then headed back to Dixons for the offer and picked up Ridge Racer & Lumines for £44, bargain, well at least relatively ;)

I bought the last PSP available at retail in the whole of my city, and I bought it from under the nose of a poor schmuck too lazy to pick up his pre-order, ahahaha, part of me hopes it was the chav I imagined myself punching after leaving the café.

But damn my feet hurt.

PSP - Not quite sold out, but as good as, and with deliveries 1-2 weeks away I think it's going to stay that way for a week or two.

Come to Brighton!! :D

I can confirm that Brighton is PSP-a-plenty. I hope that holds out til the end of the month when I hit the stores to plunk the cash down on one.

Edit: Just noticed the Dixons offer you mentioned - hopefully that too is still valid at the end of the month. Cheers for the heads up.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to make any claim about a national sell-out, just a local one.

Certainly wasn't a walk in the park getting one though.

Still, I'll have a PSP with Lumines, VT and Ridge Racer goodness to take work with me tonight, I wonder what the PSP sounds like piped through a 4Kilowatt PA system? - I'll find out later :D

Segasonic:
Sorry, I would have done, but last time I did it took me 20 minutes to remove the gold fillings from their embedded position inside my knuckles, that and they were all in disguise, not a whiff of Burberry to be seen anywhere ;)

buy a game at woolies (one of the few stores that had colin Mcrae in when I looked) and get a half price memory stick. Thats £29 for a 512, £50 for a 1GB.

It was, at least it may as well have been, and from now on I'll remember it that way :P

Why didnt you just call...

Because I believed it wouldn't be necessary, and live a 15minute walk from the centre of the city.

Oh, I've just had my first look at the demo UMD, the first time I''ve seen the screen for myself, hubbahubbahubba... *splooges* :D

Lumines is selling extremely well in EU - it's close to being sold out in the UK.

Anyway, congrats on the PSP purchase, Vennt. You're the last PSP owner in Leicester. (for now)

Do you know who you're talking to? And you're accusing him of lying?

No

and

I find it funny that someone would make that much effort, when others have seen piles of them in stores.

But whatever.

Sonycowboy: I've not been an admin for a loooong time, surely people noticed? :)

woebedraggeled: Whatever helps you sleep at night, I care for you special people the way I care for all people :P

Not worth it Darien mate, I don't particularly care what people think about me, or my credibility, Lifes just too good at the moment :D

The people that have known me / read my posts @ GAF over the last 5-6 years hopefully will find it an amusing tale of a person self-owning himself trying to pick a PSP. (The 1pm incident), a warning about local availability, and a heads-up about the Dixons/Lumines offer.

The others, well, they can and will read into it what they want, I gave up caring LONG ago :)
(Around the time I was admin, funnily enough :P)

I really like Lumines from what I've seen of it so far.

Virtua Tennis reminds me of a tennis game for the Amiga I loved (World Tour something?).

And Ridge Racer looks stunning, but haven't had a chance to play it much yet.

On a side note, whilst letting my Son have a play he stuck in RR, whilst the crude but fun loading-game filler was on I joked to him that "They were the best graphics we had once, you're spoilt these days"...

His response knocked me off my feet

"Dad, I like games like this more than anything, graphics don't matter, don't you know that? - If it's fun it's fun."

7 years old and he knows whats what, to say my heart swelled with pride was an understatement :)

So, how come your 7 year old son got that but you didn't?

nah, it's alright I'm just kidding with you! :lol

Nah, I "got" it long ago, I have fonder memories of gaming during the 8-bit days than I do more recent generations. :P

Still, to hear it come from someone who cut his teeth on VF4 at 2 and a half and generally hasn't experienced *much* of older generations was rather refreshing.
(That said, he does play his Genny moreso than the Xbox/PS2 at the moment).

Interesting. In the three days running up to actual launch day, I meandered around Liverpool city centre asking store staff/managers about pre-orders (with a view to getting one myself) and repeatedly got "no mate, and if you didn't preorder you won't get one for 2 weeks". Many of the same stores as you: GAME, HMV, Virgin Megastore, WH Smith, GameStation, Woolworths etc.

Yet on launch day, I walked in at 9am and got one fairly easy. I witnessed more than one person (about 3 or 4 in direct succession in fact) buying one cash in hand in my lunch hour that day too.... it didn't look like there were many going around then, or changing hands, but since that day they've all had loads - both on display, in stock and moving into peoples' loving arms / shopping bags.

I can only assume that people see pre-ordering as no real commitment, and failed to pick them up, thus holding back sales temporarily until the new shipments came in.

Greatest Courts aka Pro Tennis Tour :)
I think GC2 may have been the first tennis game to offer build-acharacter option and female players :P

But, we have so many people who have seen stacks and stacks...

Wrong country.

I think people are confused.

There are stacks and stacks available in the U.S., and I guess I can go get some digital pictures from Wal-Mart or Target if it means I'll get banned for providing 'anecdotal evidence'. Its a damn shame that this forum has come to that.

I'm sure its probably sold out in Europe though.
