There was this one time I was chatting with this cute blonde I'd met on the set of a TV show. We were paired up together for a few scenes, so we were talking for a couple hours inbetween takes, it was going good. We go back to holding when it starts raining, she's talking to me, and I'm half paying attention, half trying to find something in my bag.
By this point we're comfortable enough to joke around without worrying about really offending each other. She mentioned earlier in the day that she was single. I asked why, and she sort of half-alluded that her boyfriend might have hit her. Which is terrible. I would never hit my girlfriend, ever. But I wasn't really paying attention nor thinking, I just wanted to find my fucking cell phone. So it was one of those conversations where you reply at a very basic level.. your comments are valid, but not exactly elaborately thought out.
We were just talking about stuff.
<Her> I don't know, I think the older we get, the more refined we can get in terms of dealing with other people, but I don't think we change too much over the span of a couple years.
<Me> Uh huh...
<Her> I mean, when I was with my boyfriend last year, I was just as annoying then as I was now.
<Me> Maybe that's why he beat you.
Yeah. There were a few seconds of shared stunned silence before a guy who was standing next to us also unpacking looked at me and said, "Dude, that's not cool". I just didn't know what to do or say. She was good about it, she laughed it off and continued talking, but God I felt horrible, and I still do.
I'm sorry blonde girl. I just wanted to find my phone.
