What animals are morally wrong to eat?

I'm in the uncomfortable position of starting to think that it is not moral to eat other mammals . . . but meat is so tasty that I can't stop.

Chickens are fair game though. Fuck them. Fucking dinosaurs.
I became a vegetarian after it was pointed out to me how odd it is that we as a society spend a huge amount of energy debating the worth of a human fetus but almost none on the worth of mature non-human animals. It's not a slam dunk case for vegetarianism by any means, but the juxtaposition was enough to get me to reconsider my previously held beliefs.

I don't think its 'morally' wrong to eat anything, apart from the endangered species and as someone above mentioned blue wales and things that if you eat, could lead to extinction.

People in the early days ate anything right? If you take into consideration all the species of earth then they all connect in some sort of huge food chain...so why is it wrong to eat anything?

Dudes need to watch the Lion King. Circle of Life bitches.

That being said I wouldnt eat a cockroach or an insect or something that generally eats shit. Eat something that eats shit and you are eating shit.
Now, I've never tried eating shit directly, but even indirectly Im sure it wouldnt taste nice, you know, judging by the smell and all.

I don't think it's morally wrong to eat any animal. It's more preferable to eat animals that are stupider, but if you had to eat a dog, I'd be fine with it.

If you can farm/breed it, it's fine to eat. I'd say hunting but that leads to dodo situations. I like to think of farming as sustainable hunting.

There are still concerns here, like battery hens and whatnot.

I also think all meat should come with a picture of the animal on it. I'd still be down with eating a cow, but it's nice to be reminded since I didn't need to kill it myself.

The only animals I won't eat besides humans are endangered species. Although I'm not a big fan of bugs, but morals have nothing to do with it. (But I wouldn't eat somebody's pet, more because of its connection to humanity than anything else)

It would me morally wrong to eat anything that has been domesticated to live with humans or is endangered.

The reason I include Domesticated with the intent of living with humans is because at that point, We have trained them that Humans are safe and can be trusted and we live with them on a daily basis so they become part of our societies families and social groups..or you could say they are essentially human (minus the walking on two legs and speaking our language part)

Endangered species, dog, cat, horse, parrots, monkey, kangaroo and koala; to name a few.

No point eating animals that aren't bred for that purpose.

Should but are not in most cases. They are beliefs. If your morals allow you to eat humans, then you can eat humans within those morals.

Right, but if you're asking the question (by opening a thread such as this one) it means your are questioning your moral beliefs in the first place.

Oh yeah, forgot to add this one, as much as I love the country I live in (China), and hate most propaganda against it...there is one very fucked up thing that goes in a certain part of the country where the saying is 'We eat anything with four legs apart from tables and chairs'

Guangzhou, if you have 30 000RMB, the equivalent of about 3kGBP pounds sterling, you can have foetus soup.

Its fucking disgusting and morally wrong no matter which way you look at it...u can find it on the internet if you wanna puke up.

Edit: Ugh Why did I have to be on gaf while eating my dinner!

I was the kind of guy that was like a lot of others here that said "vegetarians are gay" and "no artificial thing can supplant my delicious meat", but that was actually just ignorance.

The fact is that Western cuisine simply has no development in vegetarian dishes. At most, it's a "vego burger" supplanting meat beside the boring old vegetable and potatoes.

If you look at Indian cuisine though, which is entirely vegetarian, you see the possibilites offered by vegatarian foods. Choosing between a lifelong diet of spiced vegetarian foods versus the relatively plain meat dishes offered in the West, the choice is obviously Indian food for me.

Try Veggy Indian dishes and you'll see what I mean. Meat is not that special, it's just that in Western cuisine, meat is often the thing that adds taste to the otherwise boring meal with just plain, unspiced cooked vegetables.

Yes which goes to show that they are just a decision you can alter anytime you want to suit your needs.

Thanks to the evolution of big brains it's often terrifying and hurts to be slaughtered or factory farmed.

That we know this and ignore it makes us bad if there is such a thing. Nature isn't moral, but modifying our behavior a bit to avert the most unpleasant experiences for animals in our care is definitely less bad.

The wrong is on the level of the individual, not species.

I'm pretty sure the eat chicken, well at least one Indian friend of mine does.

Perfect meal should have everything, well prepared meat, awesomely cooked vegetables and fresh fruit.

Seals and Praying Mantis's are pure evil to eat, kittens too. I might have to bury my foot in a ass if I caught somebody eating one of those.

But seriously, those I'd never eat.

From a Vegans POV why exactly would it be immoral to eat dairy products and honey? I can understand eggs.

I can't speak for all vegans, but to me personally, those products aren't meant for humans to eat. Milk from cows is meant for a calf (and mammals only drink mother's milk for the first few years of life). Honey is meant for bee construction and consumption. Eggs are just chicken business.

Mantises are terrible, they eat their prey alive and leave their vital organs intact and only eat them last.

I really find funny that faction of vegans and activists that think nature is rainbows and unicorns. Only humans are cruel with other animals? their cute and adorable orcas and cats play with their prey all the time, just to start. Nature is brutal.

Who told us we were allowed to eat plants?

The dairy industry is directly responsible for the birth, starvation and death of millions of unwanted calfs every year.

What the fuck kind of logic is this? There's a shitload of stuff that goes on in nature that we don't replicate as humans. How you can't see the difference between an animal playing with its prey and a human knowingly inflicting pain and suffering on a countless number of animals when there are perfectly viable alternatives available is beyond me.

Would you be down with me torturing you bro, you know considering nature and all?

In 20 years, someone will stumble into this thread and wonder why horse meat is being mentioned so much...

Horse meat is delicious, specially foal meat. There are even some butcher's shops that only sell horse meat, they are disappearing, though, the meat is getting quite unpopular.

I don't know how you jumped to that conclusion, all I said is that nature is brutal, not that we are a-ok to do whatever animals do.

I know, I keep a female as a pet in my gigantic aquarium. Mantises are cool. It doesn't like the wings of crickets or grasshoppers though. A huge spider somehow got into the cage last week and we caught it eating that, or my wife put it in there to see what would happen.
