It was that Saturday morning sci-fi channel stuff that got me into it. I remember seeing Akira, Venus Wars, Project A-ko, Ghost in the Shell, Record of Lodoss War, and Tenchi Muyo. Oh, and Vampire Hunter D.
I remember being blown away by this stuff, as nothing in American animation I'd seen at that time came close to appealing to my then 10 or 11-year-old desire for action and crazy shit in my cartoons.
Unfortunately, it was the 90s, so even as my enjoyment of anime grew, it cost me a ton of money to get anything, as I could basically only get it at Suncoast, where I was often paying $30 per VHS tape with like, 2 episodes on it.
