What are some games you remember enjoying, but have generally been forgotten to the sands of time?

For me, the first that comes to mind is "Crusade of the Century" on the Sega Genesis. It was sort of like Link to the Past, but actually involved a tiny bit of time-travel. The cool mechanic, though, was you could unlock all these animal companions, all of which augmented your attacks in some way, letting you "equip" two at any given time, combining them into some crazy effects. There were even "secret" companions as I recall.

Another is "Alundra" for the Playstation 1. It was also fairly Zelda-like, a top-down perspective though considerably different. It had such a unique "vibe", though, and the story was generally quite dark, dealt with a lot of themes of mortality, loss, and even how religion could be twisted. The main schtick is that your character could enter the dreams of others, usually in response to some tragic event, and those served as your "dungeons". They were fucking *terrifying* as I recall.

Another I only vaguely remember was something line... "A Knight's Tale" or something also on PS1? Turn-based RPG where you play a young, silent knight who eventually comes across a "creature" (I feel like it was a cross between Kirby with a vaguely dragon-like form?). I actually don't remember hardly anything about it, other than *really* enjoying it, before my cousins destroyed the game.

What about you guys? What are some games that we should prevent from getting lost to the sands of time?

What time is it?
Alundra had a bit of a talking point resurgence when it was released as a PSX Classic on PSN and I'm pretty sure Retronauts covered it around that time too. But even those occurrences are over a decade ago.

I was in a retro game store a week or so ago and sold another customer on Ring of Red which was a strategy RPG on PS2. I also have fond memories of Rumble Racing, also on PS2.

Ring of Red on PS2, mecha RPG by Konami like Final Fantasy Tactics. BUT Combat was incredibly unique, you move on linear path from Long Range to Close Quarters, every mech had a optimal range, firing your weapon involved a FPS like periscope that got more accurate the longer you aim. There was a lot of risk/reward to it. Unique abilities and troop support played a part in it too.
Great game despite its obvious flaws.

Hmm, Nightmare Creatures maybe? Dungeon Siege? Sonic Spinball? I don't talk about games much with people in real life, so it's hard to get a gauge on what's really forgotten these days. People on enthusiasts sites like this know everything :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I don't talk about games much with people in real life either, mostly because of my profession and the fact that nobody I know really plays games. Message boards like these are the only places I get to "talk" about games too. I'm glad to see others are the same way.

I have fond memories of Crusader of Centy on the Megadrive/Genesis. Other games that seem to have been lost to time that I really enjoyed were Golvellius for the Sega Master System, Landstalker: The Treasure of King Nole on the Megadrive/Genesis, Beyond Oasis on Megadrive/Genesis, The Mark of Kri on PS2 and also Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy for PS2.

Movie tie-in games, most of them were shit sure, but some were surprisingly good like Spider Man 2, LOTR games, Harry Potter games, Matrix Path of Neo, etc.

Spec Ops: The Line. One of the best shooters on the PS3 and one of the best narratives ever made for a game. It's currently delisted on Steam and I hope they get it sorted out because I'd love to do another run on the RTX. It starts off as your typical bro shooter but then the story gets going and it gets sooo good and taking place in the middle of a catastrophic sandstorm ... It's a must play imho from that era of games.

This game was legitimately fucking amazing. The multiplayer was very cool, kind of like tower defence if I remember correctly.
Came here to mention this game. You play as a robot that can transform into a hover car. You could customise your loadout and the weapons were generally fun. There was a campaign mode and a tower defense type mode( you capture areas, which generate points for you. You can use those to spawn npc allies like tanks, super tanks, etc). The enemy AI had the best dialogues ( "come out, come out, wherever you are", "it's mine, All Mine", "I Live Again").

An amazing game.

Known games, that just as new generations are f gamers come along seem forgotten.

Pretty much how majority of Atari games are forgotten completely at this point and people would struggle to name more than 5.

A PS1 Resident Evil clone set in a futuristic skyscraper with robots. Gameplay adds melee combat and character swapping between 4 characters, and a few choices to make. Worse VA than RE1, less polished, and not as long as an RE game. Great music.

I still love it. No one ever talks about it though.

Colony Wars. Loved that one on the PS1. Rygar for the PS2 was pretty good as well. In the RPG space, there will always be Shining Force (but it is kinda well known?). And I remember FMV being a thing as disc based games came into the light and Sewer Shark is one that will be remembered (or haunted by LOL) because me and my brother would race to see who could beat it first.

Ring Of Red was an enjoyable game, it really captured the dirty, smoke belching vibe of the mechs and as you say the risk/reward gameplay was a 'test of nerves' as you faced off your opponent and waited for your swaying gun barrel to steady.

Back when Lego had some creativity and took risks. Nothing amazing and the game was largely unfinished but was good fun to play co-op at the time with good company.

Bloody Roar PS1… used to play it all the time when I was a kid. Very unique fighting game that has a Heat system like tekken 8 when you turn into animal that’s completely dead after Bloody roar 4… no remake, remaster, rerelase, not even a mention from the publisher

God bless you all! I played both of this unique fighting games a lot as a kid with cousins and friends.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
I remember loving my playthrough of Henry Hatsworth on the Nintendo DS, yet it's a game I think I've never seen anyone talk about.

Cool blend of platforming and puzzle game, challenging and with a funny comedy tone.

Devil Dice on PS1 and Bombastic on PS2. Astrobot had a secret level featuring it. I own the first two on PS1 as imports. It should have been on the PS1 mini.

I grabbed it when it was PS3 PSN. You can still get it if you have a PS3. Another good one which you can play on PS4/5 is Eternal Ring. It’s not a mech game though. Front Mission 5: Scars of the War would have been great had they brought it over.

probably not what is meant but it's my first thought: Clickr
Maybe the only game where i ever lead on a wordwide leaderboard.
It's not available anymore, I think. Only some renmants are still on steam, also only a few videos on yt...
Loved it and all its modes.

When I had a PS1 demo disc back then, and it had a game called Granstream Saga, that really intrigued me. Played it fully around 2009, and loved it. Not many remember it anymore, but I really feel like I should replay it sometime soon.

This game was developed by Quintet, BTW. They are best remembered from SNES games such as Actraiser or Terranigma.

This was a really fun arcade style racer made by Polyphony Digital before they made Gran Turismo. It was one of the more technically impressive early PlayStation games as well. I don’t know anyone else who played it and it seems like nobody talks about it.

Yeah I love the WW2-era aesthetic the game has. It is a really fun game, its gutting a sequel never materialised. And its never been ported or rereleased in any way, legit exclusive to PS2.

Stunts, I played this on my friends 486, we all used to take turns making maps and having each other play them, early 90s DOS:

Oh and it predicted the "Cyber truck", lol did Elon play this game too?

Throw in freelancer a decade later, and that was it.

Might and Magic 4 and 5 put together as world of Xeen, when was the last time we had a sequel that used the game before to extend the world?
We have nothing like this today. Ubisoft owns the rights and the last game they made was MM10 , which was good but not like these.

Alright i will leave it there, I could go on through the years but then I would have to put a whole Thief retrospective on here,
