some of my favorite movies of all time are the original Indiana Jones flicks. Also a huge fan of movies like Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the Nile, Mummy, Sahara, National Treasure, The Librarian, Adventures of Tintin, etc. and games like Uncharted.

Looking for some book suggestions of the same genre. I've been recommended Dan Brown's Robert Langdon books. I've read the first 3. Only one I really liked was Angels & Demons. Da Vinci Code was okay, the Lost Symbol was horrible.

Anyways, anyone have some book recommendations?

Norwegian adventures:

Kon-Tiki - As far as science goes, it is crap but it is a great adventure story.

Skis Against the Atom: The Exciting, First Hand Account of Heroism and Daring Sabotage During the Nazi Occupation of Norway - The story about Norwegian commandos that did a sabotage attack on a heavy-water plant in Nazi-occupied Norway.

And I'm sure there are some good books on Roald Amundsen.

I've read all of these a long, long time ago. Was a huge fan as a kid. I wonder how they've aged. They used to be great.

The thing about them is, unless I've missed something, that nothing has really come along to improve on them. Which is discouraging, but, ah well.

Check out James Rollins and Clive Cussler (early CC, the Dirk Pitt stuff). Also, Creightons Congo. They all have the adventure/exploration angle you are looking for. "The Relic" was good as well, much better than the movie.

For "classic" adventure I'd recommend Edgar rice Burroughs and jules verne.

I've been eyeing Clive Cussler for a while. Read the back of some of his books at the local library and it seemed pretty interesting. Had no clue about the author though so I checked out some other book. Might have to check him out.

Choice of Games has quite a few really interesting examples of the genre. Some are free, others are relatively inexpensive. Great on a tablet (Android or iOS), and fairly quick to go through.

I recommend Choice of a Vampire, The ORPHEUS Ruse, and Heroes Rise to get a taste.

Nifty, I'll have to check them out.

Anything by Jules Verne, Hemingway's always a good read as well.

Touching the Void by Joe Simpson is a great, great read.

and I thought it fucking sucked

I don't remember that one, but the covers were done In a similar style. Probably same author(s) There's a good chance they're garbage. I was 9 or 10 and didn't have the most discerning taste.
