What are some good platformers of this generation?

Other than Super Mario Sunshine, which is a given, what other platformers have you played and enjoyed?

They really seem to have been on a decline this generation. I am a firm believer in Myamoto's theory: jump = fun. Every adventure game should have a jump button. I don't know if it's just my ADD but if a game's got a jump button, I don't run or walk everywhere, I SKIP dammit. And skipping is fun. Fable would have been 10 times more fun if it had a jump button and less restricted pathways.

Jak And Daxter series
Ratchet and Clank Series
Maximo series
Sly Cooper series

It's actually one of the best generation of platformers ever...
There's a serious lack of Nintendo good platformers though. During the 16 bittersm we had Mario, Yoshi and Donkey Kong. This kinda was the golden age of platformers to me.
Just imagine what this present gen would have been if Nintendo did make some good platformers on top of what i suggest you here!!! damn Sunshine! (or damn Miyamoto?).
Next gen, Nintendo better be back with great platformers.

The first Jak & Daxter is pretty good, unfortunately the sequels and Ratchet & Clank series throw in guns and other crap instead of making them good solid platformers.

Hey thanks guys. Any news of seeing Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank on the PSP?

And does Nintendo ever plan on making a Super Mario 64 with monkeys, aka a real Donkey Kong sequel in 3D?

As far as go-directly-to lizard-brain-and-do-not pass-cereberal-cortex type fun I think Ape Escape 2 is where it's at. As far as technical achievements and more expansive game design take your pick between Jak, Ratchet and Clank, or Sly Cooper. Between those three you have 8 games. I'm particularly fond of Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando.
Also, is does ICO count as a platformer?

Ratchet is hardly a platformer.

The good news is that every one of those games tried something different (and generally succeeded).

SMS is the only one, I would qualify as a platformer anyway.

Sly Cooper series
Klonoa 2
Super Mario Sunshine
Ratchet and Clank series
Jak & Daxter 1
Ape Escape 2
I-Ninja (if you consider it)
Maximo series (see above)

Exactly, those are the types I am reffering to. The games where you jump more than shoot. The kind where the whole object is to look around the level, figure out the correct places to jump to and from to finish a level. Platformers that actually require you to think, plan out your next set of 10 jumps, and then do them. I don't care much for those where you have to shoot 20 enemies and maybe hop over a pool of lava.

Try Maximo and Klonoa 2

Beyond Good & Evil, it was about the only 'platformer' I liked this generation. Jak and Rachet are just not my cup of tea.

SMS and Klonoa 2 are the only true platformers I can think of. Jak and Ratchet are more of "run around and shoot" games. Jak3 sucks, anyway. The Maximos are more like beat-em-ups than platformers, too. #2 is pretty good, though.

Jak 1 was a true platformer and it was pretty fun too.

Klonoa 2 had a weird story that wasn't very good, but the gameplay was fun.

Mario Sunshine had some great moments mixed in with the worst last level and boss fight in a Nintendo game. Still, a lot of people felt let down by this game becaues of how it had to follow Mario64. Tough act to follow.

kao the kangarooh 2

way to easy, but reminds me of some good "old" toon style platformers. also...

rayman 2
