What are some movies that inspired some of your favorite games?

I remember before Counter-Strike became a thing, a friend and I were in an IRC-type channel with the guys who were working on the early stages of the beta had mentioned Heat, Ronin and Leon the Professional as sort of inspirations. I never thought that movies influenced games until then. Today I was watching a video about Jet Force Gemini that around the 5 minute mark, shows what movies influenced some games and this topic popped up.

I know MGS 4 took some inspiration from The Third Man, an old noir film with long dark alleys. What's some movies that you're aware of that inspired a scene or a game for some games, GAF?

Shinji Mikami took a bunch of inspiration from George A Romero and low budget zombie flicks when he created Resident Evil. Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead were the main inspiration, as well as Lucio Fulcis Zombie Flesh eaters.

I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, inspired The Last of Us Part 2.

I would like to thank movies such as Everybody's Talking About Jamie, Boy's Don't Cry and Billy Elliot for making my favorite game Dragon Age Veilguard possible.

If we're talking The Last of Us it is well known that Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley took inspiration from Cormac McCarthys novel the Road, but it was mainly the film adaptation with Viggo Mortensen that they looked closer at when they created the game.

Indiana Jones movies have had an oversized impact. Tomb Raider, Uncharted, and a whole bunch of actual Indiana Jones games.

Dawn of the Dead (1978) inspired Dead Rising.

So many. I'll give you three.

Streets of Fire inspired Streets of Rage or Final Fight.
Chinatown and other noir movies inspired L.A. Noire.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre influence is present in Resident Evil 7.
