Some great songs on here. Overall, I find it a little bland. Could be a grower, though.

g65200pph7b.jpg

Pretty chamber pop, although a bit samey, from a dude who used to be in the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Nice and smooth. Could be another grower.

e93450njonc.jpg

Another gorgeous fusion of shoegazer, classical, jazz, space rock, pop from Mark Hollis and the boys. They are seriously one of the most underrated bands of all time.

and...

Timonium - Until He Finds Us
These guys blew me away when I saw them open for the Wrens. Moody, spacious post-rock with male/female vocal. Highly recommended.

I've been listening Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory today, I felt like some music from the start of my musical development. Maybe I'll pop in Limp Bizkit next!

As per the futureheads--robot is alright but alms OWNS me (and the first like 30 seconds of Le Garage).

does "advance releases" mean pirated leak?

I am serious. Or do guys review or something?

moving on, I don't have any new albums so I will probably just end up listening to Pinback's Summer in Abaddon again, which rocks btw

Pinback's "Summer in Abaddon" is a fantastic album, easily one of my top picks from last year.
I've been on an Astralwerks kick lately, so i've got all of tehse on repeat:

I've been gorging a bit on CDs this past week.

I agree with Mifune that it's a little samey throughout, but this doesn't make it any less spectacular. I'm absolutely in love here. "Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left" is one of my favorite things I've heard so far this year.

g68414d6i1l.jpg

As a whole, this isn't as good as their last album, but it's got a few tracks (the opener is just sick; makes my eyes roll back with joy) that nearly eclipse everything else they've done. Like a good version of the Raveonettes without all the fuzz.

g67017bwo3n.jpg

Really digging this one, which I basically picked up on a whim. Something of a shapeshifter, it's initially tough to peg down what genre Tension belongs to, but it becomes kind of an indie/funk version of Prefuse 73 along the way. One of the more intriguing things I've heard lately.

g68049z4y3t.jpg

How could I not pick this up? :D Great stuff, the whole disc leaves me with a big grin.

Also spinning recently...

Run the Road grime compilation
Radiohead, I Might Be Wrong
Ministry "greatest hits" mix from a guy at work

Just a suggestion- if you're posting a semi-obscure band, it'd be helpful to compare them to someone more mainstream, because I'm always looking for new bands to get into, but I don't want to grab a bunch of music and find out it's like folky bjork stuff.

p168709e.jpg

Two-disc benefit CD with tracks from Death Cab, Bright Eyes, The Go! Team, Kaiser Chiefs, Grandaddy, Wilco, Rilo Kiley, LCD Soundsystem, etc.

I noticed that Element has been mentioning them lately, so I decided to put the CD back in my rotation. Very good album, one of my favorites of 2004.

I did. It's a really good album, though, and the blandness washes away the more I listen to it. "Snowden" just might be the song of the year. See, this is the kind of stuff I wish Coldplay would do....Beautiful melodies with really strange soundscapes and a willingness to mess things up with a little noise from time to time. Coldplay needs more noise and messiness.

Listening to the Ace Combat 04 OST.

Farbanti fucking rocks, but I get more out of it while I'm doing the actual mission.

Right now? Tenshi no Tamago OST. Mamoru Oshii + Yoshitaka Amano + Kenji Kawai = happiness. But lately I am dicing between most of The Beatles catalogue as well as Joe Hisaishi's soundtracks for Takeshi Kitano's movies.
