Yep, "The Blue Album" is their last, and Glastonbury was their last ever performance.

"I think we feel that Orbital has run its course," said Paul Hartnoll via the official Orbital site. "We're both pursuing different avenues with our music. And we've been sat, as brothers, in the same room for 15 years now-- and studios are always confined spaces-- I think it's time for a change."

Gatsby's American Dream - Ribbons and Sugar

They rock hard. More riff changes on this cd than your whole cd collection combined, and not a single chorus. Very unique song structure compared to 99% of the bands today. Favorite tracks are We're Not Ophans, and Recondition, Reprogram, Reactivate. Can check both out on their purevolume page.

Friggin Brilliant, love this cd to death, dead even with Transatlanticism by DCC in terms of my current favorite cd.

B0002858YS.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Some good songs, ok cd for 6.99.

My music listening has slowed down a bit since I don't have my CD or vinyl with me. What I've been listening to:

Menomena - I am the Fun Blame Monster (they put on an exceptional live show)
The Dead Science - Submariner
Decemberists - The Tain (Holy shit is this awesome)
Deerhoof - Reveille (The Last Trumpeter Swan is stunning. STUNNING)
Xiu Xiu - Fabulous Muscles (yes, still)
Sonic Youth - Sonic Nurse (Kim Gordon. . .kicking ass?)

I'm about THIS close to rebuying that Les Savy Fav 'Inches' comp. I miss my Yawn Yawn Yawn.

Dead

well not really...yet
Um a lot of older as well as some not so old stuff lately

Jesus and Mary Chain - Darklands
Sisters of Mercy - Floodland
Joy Division - Closer
The Cure - Kiss me kiss me kiss me
Pulp - This is Hardcore
Manic Street Preachers - Generation Terrorsits
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
Wilco - A ghost is born

Hot Snakes - Suicide Invoice (New album 10/05/04, it's on the top of my most wanted list)
The 5.6.7.8's - Bomb the Rocks

Joanna Newsoms voice is the oddest thing ever.

Yep. And I love the fuck out of it. I was hooked just a couple bars into "Casiopeia."

I really, really like really, really quirky vox.

Hey Lammy,

Should I take the long way to work tonite and pick up that pAper chAse record? Is it worth it?

PS. Just noticced this weekend: the bassist from The Dead Science/Xiu Xiu works at a record store a few blocks from me. It's where I'd be going for the record, too.

White Man: I would definitely recommend it. I like it a whole lot more than "Hide the Kitchen Knives" after repeated listenings. It's getting really high on my favorites this year so far. If you liked "HtKK" I would say you'll love it. It's well worth a little extra walking.

That's pretty awesome, about the Dead Science/Xiu Xiu guy. Dead Science needs to play here, and Xiu Xiu needs to again. I wish people from cool bands worked places in this town. But that would require a good music scene, which we don't have. Unless you're into pop punk and bands that desperately want to be Thursday, of which we have a multitude.

Secret Machines - Now Here is Nowhere
These guys rock. I'm not good at sound comparisons, but I'd say there like someone threw Olivia Tremor Control and Led Zeppelin in a blender and hit puree. (I told you I wasn't good at comparisons)

Out Hud - S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D.
This is good stuff. It's like !!! without the lame lyrics (actually without lyrics at all). I'm liking this one a lot.

The Killers - Hot Fuss
A fun CD. As MAF said it's worth the $6.99 sale price.

Blondie - Parallel Lines
The Killers CD must have put me on a synth pop kick.

Also in rotation:
Paul Simon - Graceland
Gang of Four - Entertainment!

fart: FU. :(

White Man: I'm thinking The Tain is my favorite EP ever. And it has me quite excited about their new LP coming out this year... the thought of 40 minutes of music as good as The Tain makes me wet.

Jak140: I'll agree that Out Hud is better than !!! -- but I think part of the appeal, for me, at least, about !!! is the lame lyrics. They're so kitschy and awesome! "Any of you squares know where I can get a joint 'round heeeeeere?"

There's 2 shows in July so far that I absolutely can't miss:

1) AC Newman of The New Pornographers (July 6th)
2) Sufjan Stevens (July 28)

And I already got a live Xiu Xiu fix, so I'm okay for the time being.

I hope some of the former Lollapalooza bands announce tours soon.

Oh, I won't argue that they work sometimes, like on "Hello? Is This Thing On?." I guess I was just kind of disappointed with Louden Up Now after their excellent Me and Guiliani single (excluding the b-side of course).

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Nick Drake - Bryter Layter, Five Leaves Left Orchestrated and well focused anguish. Excellent, but you people already know that :)

The Stooges - Fun House I didn't know this was as melodically grinding as Raw Power. I gotta love that glam/punk charge. Sexy.

The Modern Lovers s/t Hahhah, this Richman guy sounds like he has a cold most of the time. His nose sounds so stuffed. A good record but needs time to sink in.

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing Complex but rewarding, this is an ingeniously inventive collage of sounds which happens to be the defining instrumental hip-hop record. Buy it, and let it sweep all over you.

Oingo Boingo - Dark At The End Of The Tunnel

Damn, what an amazing album. For the love of all that is holy, I encourage music lovers to buy this. Hell, it's only $7 everywhere. "Skin" is one of the best songs ever. I'm not shitting you either.
