Andy Hunter - Glow

Rise Up
One Motion

Holy Other - Held

Probably my favorite album of the year so far.

ZnaxD.jpg

Minus The Bear - Infinity Overhead

Better than Omni but they still haven't topped Planet Of Ice. Still a very solid album.

Mono - For My Parents

Mono doing what they do best. Making some of the most beautiful, grand music.

The xx - Coexist

Really good. Feels like a continuation from their previous album.

Bloc Party - Four

Pretty different than what I was expecting but I've been digging this album. Lots of raw, grungy and fun energy here.

Mount Eerie - Ocean Roar

I like this so much better than Clear Moon.

New Found Glory - Hit or Miss
I love everything in this album. Just pure NFG goodness. The new album, Radiosurgery, is pretty good too.

Panic! At the Disco - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
This album is fantastic too, I listen to it on a regular basis.

Scary Kids Scaring Kids - The City Sleeps In Flames
I haven't listened to the rest of the album yet, I only got it for the song Darkest Hour.

Taking Back Sunday - Notes From The Past
Gotta love TBS. Been listening to them non-stop since I came back from Warped. Favorite song on this album is Cute Without the 'E'

Fireworks - Gospel
Love Fireworks. I've been listening to them non-stop after Warped as well. We're Still Pioneers is my favorite on the album.

Paramore - Brand New Eyes
Paramore is in my top 5 bands, so I've been listening to them a lot too. Can't wait for the new album.

Not as good as A Weekend in the City but still one of those albums I love listening to every now and then (such as right now). In particular, "Talons", "Better Than Heaven" and "Ion Square".

Finally listening to the new Swans. I've been waiting so long for a non transcode to get uploaded. It's sounding beautiful so far though.

Have a Nice Life is one of my favorite bands of the last decade, but I was hugely disappointed by Giles Corey for some reason. I certainly wasn't expecting HANL2 or anything like that... just couldn't get into it. I will probably check out the new release anyway, though, just to support the stuff that Dan does.

Giles Corey - Giles Corey

In preparation for the new EP, which is supposed to be released sometime today.

Well, this ought to be interesting...
Download-only EP. Just 3 songs, but those 3 songs cover 90-minutes. And there is an "instruction manual" of sorts that goes with this. You must read the booklet first.

Haven't been into too much new stuff lately other than the XX and Jessie Ware. There's a new Mono album out, but I haven't gotten to it yet.

After a couple of listens, Castratii's Eora is phenomenal. And how about that Koreless remix of How To Dress Well? :o

Getting back into Grimes. My first listens of Visions didn't really capture me, but I'm really liking it now for some reason. My favorite tracks are Genesis, Oblivion, Be A Body, and Colour of Moonlight. I'm thinking about getting a ticket to see her soon. I also need to listen to her older stuff because I wasn't really aware of her until this album.

I'm still listening to Purity Ring. Shrines is just an amazing album (except for Grandloves). The first four tracks are pretty much my favorites, and I'm actually really excited to see them live in a couple weeks!

I finally got around to giving Jessie Ware's Devotion a good listen, and it's really fantastic! My favorites are 110%, Devotion, Night Light, and Wildest Moments. I hope she comes to Chicago soon!

Still on a Radiohead kick as well. King of Limbs is an album I can listen to over and over. Lotus Flower is one of my favorite songs of all time. I hope I can see them live again sometime, because they are so so so super fantastic.

Also Marina & the Diamonds obviously. And James Blake, and the Scissor Sisters as well, although the latter has been mostly just me playing Let's Have A Kiki on repeat.

In a hip-hop mood lately.

Kno - Death is Silent

The production is the star here, almost flawless throughout. Quality album.

Chuuwee & Sundown - Adventures of the Millennium Falcon

Playing the hell out of this album. The production is incredible and both Chuuwee and Sundown are good on the mic (especially Chuuwee).

Has a nice relaxed feel to most of it, and the loose Star Wars theme is pretty neat (complete with a few samples from the original trilogy and a skit set in the Mos Eisley cantina).

These are really amazing from the tracks i've listened to, especially Chuuwee & Sundown.

Yeasayer was actually super disappointing (more so than their last album because I was hoping for a return to form). Anyways this Divine Fits album is pretty good. I'm not sure whether they were going for some special unique sound or they just said fuck it let's make a easy going pop album. It just sounds like Spoon songs with less guitar and Handsome Fur synth lines. Certain songs are basically a single chord and a piano note. Britt is really good at melody and using his voice in the studio though. It's not an incredibly deep or revolutionary album but it's much better than the last Spoon album.

and yes...Matthew Dear continues to move farther from the minimal techno that I fell in love with and is somehow getting better.

Those into Matthew Dear (just got Beams and I'm PUMPED) should check out his Black City and Leave Luck to Heaven
aka Nintendo
records. Guy is awesome.

So...this week...

I've been getting into Grimes again. Visions is a great album, although it kind of peaks for me in the first 4-5 tracks for me. Genesis and Oblivion are so amazing, it's unreal.

I'm still listening to Purity Ring obsessively. I've been working on making my own music in the past couple months, and Purity Ring, along with SBTRKT have been a huge influence and inspiration as far as the direction I'm taking my sound.

I also was inspired by the Battle Born thread to give The Killers' Day & Age and Hot Fuss another listen, and they're both fucking fantastic, although Day & Age is far and away my favorite album by them.

I saw Linkin Park in concert this week, and was listening to the album mainly lamenting over the fact that they only played 4 songs off the new album live, which was extremely disappointing to me.

Marina & the Diamonds' The Family Jewels is the best pop album of all time and if you disagree I hate you forever and ever :) (Florence + the Machine's Ceremonials comes close in the top 5!)

MGMT is redeemed only because Justice did an incredible remix of Electric Feel which I've had on repeat forever this week alongside everything else.
