In separate pot boil 2 cups of water and add:

2 Tbs of light soy sauce
1 Tbs of oyster sauce
1/2 tsp of sesame oil
1 1/2 tsp of won ton broth mix
1 chopped green onion
1/2 carrot finely sliced
bring to boil and let it simmer for 3-5mins
add noodles to a bowl then add broth

If im extra hungry i'll add a Hard boiled egg & what ever deli meats I can find in my fridge, yummo

Get yourself a nice chicken thigh, skin on. Baste it with butter, sprinkle some salt/pepper. Bake it and baste again halfway through.

While the chicken is still cooking, pull out a serving's worth of ramen, seaweed of choice, green onions [chopped], corn, egg, soy sauce, chicken broth/stock, and something fishy [like imitation crab, naruto, or bonito]. If you can get a hold of pea shoots, get those as well, although I usually don't use them.

In one pot, boil water for ramen. In another smaller pot, boil the chicken broth [about 1 cup].

When the broth comes to a boil, add two or three tablespoons of soy sauce and any additional seasoning you like [I usually put in a few shakes of MSG]. Bring it down to a light simmer.

When the water comes to a boil, add the ramen, corn, and fishy something [if you think it is required]. [if you use frozen corn, add it first and wait for the water to come to a boil again before adding the other stuff]. Add seaweed about halfway through.

As noodles approach finishing, poach your egg. [I like to fill a glass measuring cup with 1 cup of water, put the egg in, and microwave for 40-45 sec, carefully strain with a fork or something]

Strain noodles and co. Put them into your bowl. Pour the broth mix over the noodles.

If you've timed things correctly, the chicken should be done cooking. Take the bone out and cut it into strips. Arrange chicken and egg [and maybe pea shoots] on top. Sprinkle with green onions.

Eat.

Boil whatever vegetables I've got around. Add miso paste and kimchi. Add ramen noodles (and toss out flavor sachet). Crack in two eggs and serve. My wife and I eat this at least one night a week. It's so good.

:O

I may try this at some point. Except, instead of chicken flavor, I'd get beef flavor.

Yes, that's right. DOUBLE the beef. Got a problem?

I always put spinach or bok choy and frozen corn and green onion. Depending on mood, some fishballs or shrimp and sesame oil.

I never drink leftover broth.

Make as normal in the microwave, crushing the noodles up first. Drain 3/4 of the broth. Add about a half inch slice of Velveeta diced up and stick it back in the nuker for an extra minute or two until it gets melty. Stir up good and enjoy your ghetto ass mac n cheese you filthy fat fuck.

Here's one I like. It's a Korean recipe called Budae-jigae (부대찌개) or translated as "Army Stew".

In a large frying pan or sauce pan, add some water or if you want either chicken or vegetable broth. Just enough to bathe everything.
Add the included packet of ramen spices or pepper paste and stir.
Add chopped white and/or green onions.
Add chopped mushrooms. (Best if you have a variety of mushrooms)
Add chopped peppers (whatever you prefer).
Add chopped hot dogs or lil' smoke sausages.
Add thick-cut slices of spam or smoked ham.
(or whatever meat you want, really)
Heat on a burner until all vegetables are almost cooked.
Add ramen noodles.
Top it with some kimchi.
Top it with some baked beans or tofu. (optional)

When noodles are done, serve.

During the Korean war, the Americans had a lot of leftover hot dogs and spam that they donated to the Koreans, and so this dish was created when they just tossed the meats together into a stew of vegetables and ramen.

Anthony Bourdain featured it on his show before, but I can't find it on Youtube, so instead here's him making it for Anderson Cooper:

[*]Let the egg cook for about a minute. It should look a lot like egg drop soup with bits of cooked egg white in the broth, and a yolk that's warm all the way through, but only stiffened on the outside. Pour a little of the broth and as much of the egg white as you can get into the bowl and mix everything up. Plop the yolk on top and break it to let the yolk run out onto the noodles.
[*]Enjoy![/list]

That's my main thing. Cooking the egg in the broth and following those directions, when you pop the yoke and you see that broth thicken right up and become beatifully rich. So freaking good. My friends always give me shit for overcomplicating my Ramen, but seriously why wouldn't you take a few extra minutes to make your normally shitty Ramen something nice.

When I don't have Ramen I'll sometimes follow the recipe and make a type of chicken broth rice porridge with egg and brown rice. It's awesome too.

1. Crush noodles while still in the bag.
2. Dump them into a large mug or similar.
3. Boil water in an electric kettle (actually, do this while you're doing 1 & 2). If you live in the US and don't own an electric kettle, you need to get with the program.
4. Pour hot water over crushed noodles.
5. Add spices or whatever's in that little bag.
6. Mix, wait a minute or two.
7. Drink/eat.

I always add some lime into my ramen noodles. Sometimes I'll be frisky and add in two or three cut up peppers from my freezer.

But when I have the necessary ingredients for ramen noodles with no specific flavoring:

Green onions
Cilantrol
Spinach
Lime
Sriracha or Frozen peppers
Hoisin Sauce
Fish Sauce
Chicken or Beef Flavoring
An egg or two maybe some thinly sliced beef

End result: salt overload.

I think I'd just buy a roast chicken from the shops or something and shred it with a fork. Might work?

Oh yeah, you could pretty much use whatever meat you want. I like making my own chicken because I get that skin sweet spot where it's crispy but also melts in your mouth.

I've been playing around with a recipe I found a while back in the NYT Cooking section (recipe here) and I think I've perfected my own modifications to it.

  • Set out a bowl that you're going to use for eating your ramen. Add about 2 teaspoons of sriracha or (ideally) the chili garlic mix that Huy Fong makes. Add about the same amount of soy sauce and mix them together. Set out a slice of American cheese.
  • Boil your water and add the noodles. When they've got 30-60 seconds left, add the seasoning packet and mix.
  • When the noodles are ready, pour a little of the broth into the bowl and mix everything up. Use a fork to pull the noodles from the pot to the bowl and mix enough to cover the noodles in the spicy sauce. Put the American cheese on top of the noodles and cover the bowl (I use the pot lid over the bowl).
  • Put the pot of broth back on the stove and crack an egg into it. Using your fork, immediately start trying to pull all of the white away from the yolk. There's a bit of a sac around the yolk, so I have found that constantly stabbing immediately around the yolk and working the fork outward rapidly in a motion that sort of orbits the yolk works best. This should only take about ten seconds.
  • Let the egg cook for about a minute.
  • Enjoy!
This sounds weird and awesome. I might try it.

Everyone in this thread should have a Rapid Ramen Cooker. Changed my life.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009QU37TG/?tag=neogaf0e-20

No pots and pans, no measuring cups, and no waiting for water to boil. Takes like 3 minutes from munchies to munching. Just add noodles, add water to the line, microwave (mine takes 2 minutes and 12 seconds for perfect noodles), add seasoning and whatever else, eat right out of the cooker. Perfection.

They have a mac and cheese one now?? Maybe I'll finally jump on that one... I read that the ramen one doesn't work too well with the bigger Korean packs, but some of comments suggest that the bigger mac and cheese one works with ramen as well.

I've always loved Ramen. Some of my favorite recipes

Please note I DO NOT use the packet they supply as it's so crazy high in Sodium. I use another type of bouillon packet with NO SODIUM (costs more than the ramen at like $0.25 each but a better flavor by far).

Pizza ramen Noodles
Cook like normal
Strain water
Add Bullion
Add pepperoni (cut up)
Add Pizza Quick (or any marinara sauce)
stir
Top with Parm or Mozz cheese

Go-to Ramen Noodles
Cook like normal
Strain
Add butter
Add Milk
Add Bullion
Stir
Top with fresh ground pepper

Taco Ramen
Cook like normal
Strain
add water
add taco seasoning
add bullion (usually go with Beef in this one)
add ground hamburger or turkey
stir
top with cheddar cheese and/or sour cream

Stroganoff Ramen
Cook like normal
Strain
add milk
add butter
add bullion (Beef)
add cut up beef steak or hamburger/turkey crumbles
add sour cream
add mushrooms (if you like)
stir
top with fresh herbs and/or ground black pepper

As for amounts of additions that's totally up to you. Sometimes I want my ramen a little more soup like, sometimes I don't. Enjoy!

I have one of these. It's called a bowl. Tupperware... For the life of me I can't think of what this product does that a regular ass bowl doesn't do. Is making ramen in the microwave as opposed to on the stovetop the revelation? I've been doing that since my very first pack.

Maruchan ramen, beef ramen, sometimes add some lime and hot sauce.

Or just don't eat ramen at all.

I need to eat real ramen from a restaurant one of these days.
