What didn't you like about the Switch 2?

I think people's disappointment largely stems from the fact that this is the most heavily leaked/talked about/rumored consumer electronics device of the last five years.

We knew precisely its dimensions, features, specs, and design elements before the video...the video just confirms what we already know. The only questions at this point are software (always the most important question, but particularly from Nintendo), and what the hell is up with the mouse controls.

Gamers have nobody to blame but themselves if they are disappointed by the new Switch and it's reveal.

I can’t really form a solid opinion yet. But honestly, it feels like the coldest console reveal I’ve ever seen. Maybe what bugged me is how Nintendo seems to treat it like a phone company dropping a new model.

I need to see the games and how the console performs in TV mode, 'cause I’m not a handheld guy.

I really dislike that giant number 2 dominating the logo.

Not allowing us much room for confusion. L👀K at the giant 2 on me

Just confirmed to me that without an OLED screen, it will likely be 2028 before I get one...I'm not giving the manipulative cunts two purchases.

..until then my Steam Deck OLED and maybe a Legion Go 2 / ROG Ally 2 purchase in the summer, will suffice

I wanted something more from it than being an iterative device.

But I recognize that Nintendo HAS to solidify its platform and keep people between gens. I also don't particularly like that they didn't change the dpad.

Dumb question but do the GameCube controller analog triggers work on Switch?
Yes, GRID Autosport use them if you want a racing example. Mario Sunshine also use them in Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Problem is it’s locked to the GC controller and not a standardized functionality of the system, so it’s not something most devs/games will make use of.

Yes I was 'whelmed' by the trailer but at the same time I don't know what else I would have wanted from a next gen Switch. Bigger and more powerful were givens and that's what we are getting. The concept of the Switch itself was never going to feel fresh like it did back in 2017. I do think the relatively sterile presentation is a reflection of their current leadership in the same way past reveals reflected Iwata, who presided over the 'creative' consoles/portables we now associate and expect from Nintendo. The new CEO seems more by the numbers and playing it safe, and the reveal reflected that.

As far as what I don't like about the system itself, mostly the choice to go with LCD screens as far as we know. OLED was in the Vita 12 years ago, tons of smart phones have them, Steam Deck, and Nintendo's own Switch 1 OLED variant. At this point I wish they would stop treating it like this new cutting edge tech. A beautiful screen can do a lot of heavy lifting when the specs are comparatively lacking to other systems. I'm sure the economics 'make sense' to introduce it in a later model to encourage double dipping as well as getting the launch system out as cheap as possible but still, it feels like a step backward in the here and now.

Beyond that, I'm hoping and expecting to see great first party games. Personally don't care about the third party stuff because I have PS5 and the Legion Go for those things.

Nothing wrong with what was shown personally. I am afraid the first version won't be oled (though I'm not sure if it would make much of a difference for a fhd screen). I guess it was just the animation but it looked as if the stand would snap back if you pressed it down much (besides the fact that it looks flimsier than the oled's one).

The trailer didn't really sell me on any of the games they have shown on it either, so I'm kinda hoping they plan on releasing some other games for the system or it's just gonna kinda suck that it only plays MK9 and nothing else.

I don't really mind if it isn't OLED as I probably won't be playing much outside of docked mode, but I also probably won't drop 400+ on an LCD handheld in 2025.

This feels more like a Switch Pro than a Switch 2. I would have probably pulled the trigger on this if it had come out instead of the Switch OLED a couple of years ago.

Head scratcher that Nintendo didn't have more games to show and that they couldn't reveal the price.

I was initially disappointed in the trailer because it didn't include any specs, but I have since looked up leaks about tech specs (I wasn't aware of them before, hadn't been following closely). I'm good with what they're offering. From what I hear, it will perform somewhere around the PS4 Pro in docked mode. That is fine with me and a big upgrade from where it was previously. If they can give me a handful of games I want to play, I'll get one.

I didn't like how long we have to wait. This console has a 2023 chip, nothing really new, just more powerful and bigger, it's already 2025 and we still have half a year to wait. They could have released it in the Fall 2024, but I guess they wanted to squeeze a little more out of the original Switch.

Too early to have too strong an opinion yet for me. But early returns arent too interesting. I really don't care for my switch. Never found it good playing portable, at least for a good portion of games. It's fine for Mario kart but BoTW or ToTK felt awful to play in handheld mode. Not to mention it feels much worse after getting a portal. It's also rare for Nintendo to not switch it up. Look at their last console releases: N64 ➡️ GameCube ➡️ Wii ➡️Wii u ➡️ switch. All of those were dramatically different, while so far this seems like much of the same. I also get it's still rumor only at this point, but the price seems crazy. I maybe would go up to 400 for a Nintendo console but that's the absolute limit. Would probably need a game bundled with that too.

Don’t fix what ain’t broke. Just because the switch was revealed in its current form, never means that its final form. Switch has always been versatile. Party games, cardboard accessories, VR, and so on. I’m not sure how much more innovation they could have done on a system we know not much about.

I couldn't be happier. It's exactly what I was hoping for. I have a massive Switch library that I am excited to load up onto the Switch 2 as soon as I get one.

The only bad thing is that the connector piece attached to the S2 that goes into the joycon looks like it will be a point of failure. Hopefully it's an easy repair and not soldered to or part of the motherboard or something; or even better, it isn't actually a problem.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Looks good to me, but I'm used to a console showing games and then revealing the console.
So I'm not sure what to think and not sure what to get excited about as a Switch owner or Nintendo fan.

Something they (all consoles) seem not to be doing these days, just a console reveal and that's it.

Honestly? The Switch 2 didn't excite me, it seems like more of the same.
I don't see any reason for the masses who have the Switch to migrate, what I want to say is that the Switch was innovative, it quenched our thirst, like the Wii did with WiiU.
Today I prefer the SteamDeck or the other handheld PCs.

And you, what did you not like about the Switch 2 ?
How can you not like something if you’ve never played it or used it? 🤔

You’re talking about a 2 min YouTube trailer. Showing you plastic casing. No need for theatrics, bub. Just wait til you actually try it

Why didn't we say this about PS4? We gave them accolades for conservatively doing the same thing.
If PS4 reveal in 2013 showed off a game that looked identical to a playstation game released 10 years earlier, people would have said the same thing.

No one got excited about a decade old Mario Kart game with extra characters? Surely we must look at past consoles with actual generational leaps and see how this is preposterous

they are still using the small form factor analog sticks.
and they are crap.

even if they are hall effect sticks this time, this only eliminates 1 of the issues they have.
the other main issue with these sticks is that they basically do not even remotely allow for precise inputs.

they have wonky ass hinges, and they are way too short, both of which kill any chance to be precise with them.

so playing shooters on such a stick is just awful.

The only disappointing thing so far is the graphics of the next Mario Kart, but I need to hear more about the game first.

I also dont understand the reason to push the actual reveal back to april. Its literally a switch pro. Very few changes and we have been waiting for over 8 years by the time switch 2 launches. Nintendo has to stop trying to be cute and stop being super cheap trying to drag out the switches life span so long like someone with an old beater car driving it til the wheels fall off. This is unacceptable.
As an outsider (non-Switch owner, not plugged into the leaks), I found it underwhelming and uninformative. I wish they would have included some specifications. I guess that will come later.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by hearing Nintendo fan reaction, too. Seems like a lot of people are saying this is more like a mid-gen upgrade, a Switch Pro, rather than a full next-gen leap forward in terms of the tech. That's disappointing.
We know from the leaked specs that this isn't a pro. It's a next gen successor in terms of both market positioning and technology

For PS5 and Switch the release date and price were revealed at a showcase 2 months before launch. I imagine that's what the April Direct is.

We'll get those details, plus any OS changes and of course the first round of Switch 2 exclusives

I don't recall the PS5 being revealed hardware only, with one game and no price.

I think Nintendo's hand was forced due to leaks, but they've had more than enough time to get games ready.

PS5 was first announced in an interview with Wired. Then it got a logo announcement at CES, followed by a presentation focusing only on hardware.

So I'm pretty sure the PS5 was announced with no games and no price. Those details came in a showcase, just like it will with Switch 2.

I don't think there's any way Nintendo just threw together this video in response to leaks. It was always planned that they'd use a trailer to announce it, so they can open registrations for hands on events and then talk about it at the next investor meeting.

Yeah, I since checked the tech spec leaks (wasn't aware of them previously), and calling it a Switch Pro seems misleading. It's got a lot more under the hood than the original Switch does. It's no powerhouse, but it's a big enough leap forward to be considered "next gen" in Switch terms.

Exactly. Every aspect of the specs is jump up over the original Switch.

The reason to move to the new Switch is a new Mario Kart.
They haven't had a new one since what? 10 years or so.
I would buy a new system with no upgrade at all to play a new entry.

I will preorder the Switch 2 ASAP

You're right.

I've completely put the hardware reveal video out of my mind. It was even more dogshit of a reveal.

It was a bit different for PS5 as Sony announced it quite early in advance and focused a lot on specs.

Nintendo is obviously a lot less focused on specs and so didn't take that approach.

Now what PS5 did have is a good showcase (two of them in fact). We'll have to see in April if the Switch 2 one measures up.
