What didn't you like about the Switch 2?

Ergonomics.
Definitely this, Nintendo ought to do first party large size joycons and offer an SKU with them included. Perfect for Nintendo's core audience - shut in nerds with 25 years experience as a Pokémon trainer.

Getting some Hori Split Pad Compact joycons for my switch made it actually useable, I kinda think that if equivalents aren't available at launch, then it might be better to hang on until they are.

The ideal would be for them to somehow be supported, of course.

I'd like to live in a parallel universe in which a bunch of diverse reasons doesn't bully Nintendo into producing consoles that can be used on the go. I'd get my stationary, solid box that sits under the TV, and because it can sip north of 100 watts under load, has the power of at least a base PS5. Trying to imagine how their games might look and perform with that kind of processing grunt. I don't even need a "gimmick", make it a traditional console like the GC or the N64. We'd get more and better third party ports as well. Maybe in 10 years.

i'd say games but i still have a bunch of Switch 1 games i want to play so that'll hold me over until new games come out.

Other than that... is asymmetrical sticks (i get why they do it) and flat "grips" on the joycons. after using a Steam Deck it's going to be awkward to use a Switch even if it is bigger.

We don't have all the specs yet but I assume they have beefed up the hardware internally. That's all I really wanted. More CPU/GPU power and more RAM/Storage. And exclusive games.

I didn't like that it will cost about $650 in my country whilst there will $350 version for the Japanese people. It's going to be crazy expensive for what it provides. If it wasn't for Bananza which entertained me I'd be pretty peeved with the Direct. It'll all depend on how good the next 3D Mario and Zelda are. And to a lesser degree Metroid Prine 4.

Only thing I didn’t like was the Switch 1 remasters being stupid “Game Keys” instead of full games on cartridge.

Other than that it looks great 🙂

Like I already said in another thread: No OLED screen. Guess I'll either have to wait (much) longer, or only get one when it's confirmed there'll never be an OLED version.
I also didn't like the price of physical games being €90,-.

I do like the 120fps support. Hopefully at least their own games will run it. Their 1st party games are the only reason to get a Nintendo, anyway.

Everything else was kinda meh. All the announcements of games that are already widely available on other platforms just isn't exciting. And then they perform and look worse, too. Maybe for those select few who really own a Nintendo console and nothing else, but then would you buy a Nintendo for these games I wonder?

The graphics shown are not much of a leap in terms of geometry, lighting and textures. Yes, it's better but I expected a lot more. Instead, they look like Switch 1 games in much higher resolution.

This is fatal because Nintendo has to sell it based on its increased hardware power. The only title that surprised me was StarWars Outlaws, given it's a demanding current gen title. I wonder how that would run. Still, why only mentioning it for a few seconds in a sizzle reel? It should be used to demonstrate the capabilities of the hardware.

Also it seems like no DLSS was used, which is a shame. Battery life seems to suck and no OLED.

Bloodborne 2 turned out to be just a multiplayer game. Would have been a huge get if it wasn't.

Then theres not enough first party games at all. The only good ones were DK and MK, and I don't care personally about MK. And of course, the prices.

All in all, I will probably skip until the Switch 2 OLED releases with a brand new Zelda that appeals to me or with a remake of TP/OoT (not remaster)

Things that were a concern for me:
  • Price @ £395 in comparison to original Switch @ £279
  • No obvious usage of NVidia technologies i.e. DLSS4 transformer or frame gen
  • Launch line-up is pretty thin - Donkey Kong and Metroid Prime should have been launch titles
  • Hardware Tour experience is paid and not bundled
  • Game visuals appeared to be more of a Switch 1.5 than a generational improvement
  • Game prices are very steep - baffling considering the underwhelming visual presentation
  • Console output when docked appears capped at HDMI 2.0 i.e. 4K60
  • New Pro controller is absurdly expensive - inexplicably doesn't feature analogue triggers

One would have imagined DLSS would have been front and center in the presentation, but not a peep about it.

I have no horse in this race couldn't care less about Nintendo. But I find their return to region locking practices... interesting.

The games shown weren't enough for me. I expected more awesome shit from Nintendo, but they did not deliver enough. Not enough to make me overlook the stupid high prices.

  • the screen is not edge-to-edge - black bezels
  • are joycons Hall effect? They didn't brag about it, so probably not
  • Welcome Tour costing money, what the fvck!?
  • Console output when docked appears capped at HDMI 2.0 i.e. 4K60
Is that a problem?

In my opinion, the Switch 2 only makes sense if you view it as a 'Switch Pro' rather than a true next-gen Nintendo console. It’ll likely play current-gen Nintendo titles more smoothly, with fewer if any frame rate drops.
