What do you think is the best racing game of all time?

Any of the first 4 GT games honestly.

GT1 was really special. No racing game like it in that era
GT2 was an improvement over GT1 - just a bigger, more comprehensive package.
GT3 shocked me. I remember when the PS2 was first released and I saw GT3 in Toys R' Us. As soon as I picked up the controller and did a lap in the Nissan GT-R R34 JGTC, I knew I had to buy the PS2 and this game. It was probably the most revolutionary console racer out then, and that one game which made you think 'next-gen is here'.
GT4, again, was a refinement over GT3. Still had a blast playing it.

I think even GT5 was also a pretty good game. I was addicted to that game for days when it came out. Objectively it might be a better game than any of the other GT games if we are comparing apples to apples (and especially after the incredible post-launch support by PD - Spec 2.0 update was superb), but I think nostalgia has got the better of me - GT1 and GT3 were some of the most fun gaming racing experiences in my life.

Not much of a racing game fan, but the one I played the most was probably RaceDriver GRID. Really like that game.

All very different games but great enjoyed them above any other racing games.

This is really the sort of question that requires splitting into subgenres... but if it's gotta be one, then its definitely the one and only, Daytona USA.

If Playground Games were to attempt a PGR they would utterly obliterate Driveclub in that regards. Hell, they pretty much did accidentally with FH1.

I could probably think of more brilliant racing games, but I'd struggle to narrow it down to one I would call the best.

I like more arcady stuff. Not much that interest me nowadays,

Stunt Car Racer
Racing Destruction Set

It's hard to pick the top one, but I guess it would have to be WipEout HD, with Fury expansion included, followed by the original SSX. Both have their own distinct style, feature varied and imaginative tracks, and are a joy to play. The same could be said about Driveclub as well though.

Oh... I don't know what to choose. This is a really hard decision to make given the range of genres, so I'm just going to list a few:

Gran Turismo 3
Burnout 3
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
Need for Speed: Underground 2
F-Zero GX
Forza Horizon

there are others of course, but I'll be here all day listing them

And I must be in the minority, because I think Driveclub controls like garbage. Maybe I should give it another chance?

I really want to play it again, but can't get it to work on Win 10.

Second goes to Metropolis Street Racer. Loved that game.

Ridge Racer Type 4, almost forgot that

I don't play as many racing games as I used to, and those were a lot of fun.

Racing games are among my favorites, and if I had to choose one, it would be Dirt 2.
The handling is the best mix of realism while also being accessible. Dirt 3 is also great but its focus on gymkhana brings it down.
GT5 and 6 are also pretty good, I love to boot it up and just run around a track trying to bring down my own time.

When I was a kid, my favorite racing game was easily NFS IV: High Stakes, what a game.

In no particular order

MK8/MK DS = nostalgia gets me to love DS for what it was and MK8 is truly something special with incredible value.

Excite Truck = Mario Kart but better. In every imaginable way.

Sonic Racing Transformed = Didn't like a few things from the original but overall the transformation mechanic sold me and made tracks so much more dynamic and fun.

And I'll probably throw DriveClub too even though I just bought the full version last week or so.

I haven't played many racers but I'm happy with what I've played. Excite Truck might be my #1.

Multiplayer: Micro Machines 2 (my favourite game of all time, as it happens)
Combat: Burnout 3: Takedown
Futuristic: F-Zero GX
Arcade: OutRun 2

Not really qualified to weigh in on sims - as much as I enjoy them when I do play (which hasn't been for a while now), I know jack shit about actual cars.

I'm not the world's biggest racing game fan, but I do know the correct answer is a three-way tie between Destruction Derby 2 (PSX), Gran Turismo 3 (PS2), and Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA).

F-Zero GX of course. The depth of its gameplay and its physics engine is amazing. Almost feels as deep and instinctive as an old fps such as quake. And it s probably even harder to master!
