What game are you currently playing?

Crow Country
Made my way to the Ocean Kingdom section. Recently found a shotgun.

Demon's Souls Remake
Started a new game. Going with a faith build for the first time. Picked up the Adjudicator's Shield and now wandering around looking for a decent blessed weapon.

Took down Bayle at last and holy shit, was that not the most epic boss fight in history? The amount of adrenaline released from my body when I killed him could power a small village. Goddammit what a rush!

I started a new playthrough of the entire Halo series the other day so I'm currently finishing up Combat Evolved.

Also started playing Halo Infinite multiplayer again and I'm actually having a great time surprisingly.

star wars outlaws
and i'm having a great time with it
really immersive game all around
all these mini game activities that are really detailed and really makes it seem like these activities are part of that world instead of being there just for the sake of being there
you can casually lean in random places or simply sit in a bar to have a calm moment
listen to conversations and find out opportunities and missions, really lively towns and cantinas, finding opportunities
not having explicit quest markers and instead organically and naturally finding what you're supposed to do
amazing companion in Nix that, has tons of different and unique interactions that makes it incredible immersive
the whole reputation system, having to be careful in balancing things or there are really consequences, some gangs can send people after you or you may not get the upgrade material you need

not having a leveling system really makes it even more immersive, instead you have unique ability cards that gets improved when you actually do stuff that involve those abilities. so you get the sense of natural progression

combat and stealth is not that great... but enjoyable enough, as a means to explore and experience the immersive world they've created...

i can literally wander in this game's towns for hours without doing any actual quests and just have fun walking around. incredible stuff

Been completely hooked on Blue Prince. Game is so fucking good. I've made it to Room 46 once, so am working to get there again. Even when you don't make it far on a run it feels like you discover or unlock a tiny detail that will open up stuff for you on the next one. Find it really fascinating how they can turn a puzzle game into a roguelike but it absolutely works.
Best game I've played this year.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
I really like the simplicity of this KH entry. Create a deck and battle some Heartless around small maps. I've cleared Traverse Town and Coliseum, and now I'm in Agrabah. Love the KH games. Serious blast of nostalgia and happiness when I play them.

Wild Arms
I bought this during the PS Vita days, and I never got around to playing it. I did Rudy's little story. Solid JRPG from the little I've played.

Going to continue with Crow Country and Demon's Souls later tonight once it gets dark outside, for the mood.

How's Crow Country?

Unmetal, brought it, thought it would be an interesting take on the MGS side of things, but hasn't quite worked out that way...and I haven't been drawn into it, as I thought I may have done.....doesn't help there was never a demo released for it on consoles, may have helped in my purchasing decision instead of going for it..without really knowing what it would be like...

Anyways, congrats on pulling her, my man!
I really need to buy a lottery at this point

Finished Doom Dark Ages recently - was good and enjoyed it.

Finished Trepang2 on PS5 as well - it was fun and ridiculously over the top but a bit annoying and tedious as well.

Working on the DLC for Little Nightmares now.

Started playing GT7 again trying to get gold on the Super Licence, lap attacks and missions. Man this game is making me rage....!!! I can get all silver but Gold is out of my reach I think and its really winding me up.

Started The Plucky Squire yesterday.

What a creative piece of software. The only thing that bothers me so far is the excessive amount of needless dialogue. Feels like I am reading more on each page than I'm actually playing.

Currently ACTIVE playing:

• Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022)

Currently playing in co-op, in this order:

• Dead Island 2 (RTX 4080 laptop friend)
• Borderlands 3 (RTX 3080 friend)
• Deep Rock Galactic (various friends)
• Super Mario 3D World Deluxe (Switch emu, RTX 3080 friend)

Currently playing, but postponed a bit, in this order:

• Immortals of Aveum
• The Last of Us Part II
• Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced
• Far Cry Primal
• Kingdom Come Deliverance 1
• Outer Wilds
• Hitman 2 - Silent Assassin (2002)

Wanting to replay:

• Split Fiction
• Hellblade II: Enhanced Edition
• Gears of War: Re-Loaded
• Splinter Cell 1 (Xbox Levels mod)
• A Plague Tale: Requiem

Finished Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in wonder labyrinth. Despite my love for Metroidvanias I did not feel this one. Even though I should. Beautiful pixel art, good music, interesting mechanics and some cool bosses. Symphony of the Night seems to be the main inspiration. Deedlit even moves like Alucard and has a cape. But the game had annoying parts. Pretty bad level design. Meh weapons and magic. Frustrating second phase bosses which I had to redo multiple times due to getting my ass handed to me. Didn't understand a lick of the story since I don't watch (or read maybe) the source material it's based on. I'll give it a 6/10. It's decent and its saved by the fantastic audiovisual presentation.

Astrobot. It's quite a good game - very creative, well-made, and full of interesting little tidbits. It might be a bit too cheerful and upbeat for me, though, heh. I tend to like more grounded and serious stuff, and platformers usually don't do it for me. No doubt it's a high-quality game, though.

Bloodborne (PC)

A few more, technical hiccups. The entrance to Ebrietas' arena changed my display to... a series of colored bricks? Research Hall suffered from a couple, frequent problems - Transitions producing the white screen seen in the Forbidden Forest or a weird, rainbow effect from the bottom of my screen up. Ludwig hardlocked me on the mid-fight cutscene although I was able to get past on the revisit by mashing the cutscene skip (RIP 'you were by my side all along'). White screen seemed to happen whenever I rushed in some instances - I had to reduce my pace on the fog door run for Laurence.

Most fights have been pretty ok. Abhorrent Beast is probably my favorite of the new fights since my last post, pretty fun and manageable patterns. The tougher version of Undead Giant was a challenge, forcing me to play in-and-out to not get wrecked by his spinning chains attack. Chalice Rom was (still) an asshole, as was Defiled Chalice Watchdog. Still haven't beaten DC Amygdala but I have cleared the other, required depth 5 chalices. I never did fight the tougher version of Bloodletting Beast in this run. Multiple bellringing summoners in deeper chalices are even bigger assholes than the huge dogs - getting swarmed by 2x, infinitely spawning, high damage spiders sucks. I forgot exactly how big the XP boost is from depth 3 to 4: Very easily NG+ echoes, so I favored finishing most of the main game content before returning to the deeper chalices. Micolash is as tedious as I remember too.

Not much left now. Second half of Fishing Hamlet, the last layer of Defiled Chalice and the last Pthumeru chalice, and the final bosses. Otherwise I've completed all the core content of Bloodborne on PC (I could go chalice diving for exclusive runes but I think I'm good).

What do you mean PC? I thought it was a PS4 game? Is it running in an emulator and playable?

It's been running for almost a year. Most of the kinks are ironed out, although you have to do some tinkering to get it into a playable state.

Awesome, thank you, i can't believe we are able to run PS4 games on an emulator.

Level design was good outside of bow/spirit obstacle gimmicks. Areas were visually distinct and thematic. The map was thoroughly interconnected and had its share of secrets.

Melee weapons were varied, responsive, had good arc/range, and gave directional control better than even later Castlevania titles. Bows only felt awkward when trying to aim at a different angle. Magic was well animated and hit hard but the cost of most spells and enemy immunity limited the practical application to a handful.

Bosses required you to really know where hits/projectiles connected, switch to the right spirit on que, and use the spell that is best against them. There was not really a way to deal with the boss your own way and melee weapons definitely took a backseat during boss battles. The purchasable potions and magic stones could certainly carry a weaker player through them though.

The story could be pieced together from the dialogue but it was not the focus.

That score implies that the game is completely unremarkable despite the game being polished and designed better than most releases in the genre. It even one ups Symphony of the Night in mechanics and presentation but just does not feel as adventurous or open ended.

P.S. The game had a great level of challenge but it is still easier than Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. If somebody asked me for a game like Symphony of the Night this would likely be my first recommendation.

Tainted Grail on my days off from work. I am nearing the end of the opening area, I think? I am taking my time and I am 20 or 25 hours in.

Cookie Clicker on days that I work. It just came to PS5.

I've finished Silent Hill 2 with the Enhanced Edition mod. Konami should straight up pay these guys and re-release this on all platforms, it's incredible work.

The game is as good as everyone says, the atmosphere is off the charts. The sound design evokes a sense of dread that is difficult to describe. The narrative develops in an interesting way throughout James' journey, I didn't know much about Silent Hill in general so nothing was spoiled to me even after all these years. I got the "In Water" ending and I'm fine with that.

It's mind boggling that the original game has been abandoned by Konami. I had to download it from an abandonware website because there is no way to buy it on PC. The only available version is the remake and I'm not interested in playing that one. If fans can restore the game without having the source code, Konami has no excuses.

Currently I'm playing the Forgotten City, I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Still playing Split Fiction with my daughter. I keep repeating this but this is harder than It takes Two. A friend finished that game with his wife but gave up on Split Fiction. So, I'm extra proud of my daughter sticking to it. She keeps repeating that she likes fantasy stuff way better than sci-fi.

Playing the new Doom, more less a level per day. Honestly, I love the new gameplay mechanics, the parry thing and the shield in general is a great addition. The story is very silly obviously, but I'm having tons of fun.

Symphonia 𝄞 is gorgeous and and a nice twist on an old platformer formula. Will finish. I will also finish Crypt Custodian which instantly hooked me with its charming exploration and "quests".

to a T is not really for me. Spray Paint Simulator doesn't work nearly as good as Power Wash Sim. Just not as satisfying.

Finished Revenge of the Savage Planet. Hard to compare it with the first one, but it does some thing better, some worse (I prefer one planet setting for the first game). Overall, a time well spent.

Played through the demo of Hell is Us. This game is definitely my jam. I love the combination of action/adventure with investigative work. Story premise was exciting and wanted me to know more. Solid combat, especially with the dual axes. Moody atmosphere, got strong Lovecraftian vibes, and the music and enemies are eerie and mysterious. The only negative I have is that your save does not carry over to the final game. First time I play a demo that does this. It's bullshit.

Who thought that was a good idea?

Just finished FFVII Rebirth and damn that was a long game. Have to say, you can really feel the passion brought by the development team but the story suffered due to constant side-tracking and never ending bloat. Mini games started off a fun distraction and I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and variety but by the end, it felt like too much. My play time was an obscene 200+ hours and by the end of the story, I had lost the will to fully wrap-up everything (I was at something like 80/88 challenges to access Johnny's chest). Overall, I enjoyed my time with the game but the devs should try and focus more on parts of the game that really matter i.e. the combat system could be radically improved, the automated weapon upgrade system felt meaningless, the SP character skill trees are all full of bloat, some materias take waaay too long to level, the crafting system is pointless if it is solely tied to materials introduced as you progress through the story and the ending was probably one of the most confusing sequences I've ever experienced in a game ever. With all the above, the game was utterly charming and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of the party members.

Needed a palate cleanser after Rebirth so have now jumped into Dynasty Warriors: Origin (my first Dynasty Warriors game) and am enjoying the mindless arcade fun. After it will likely be Silent Hill 2 or Indiana Jones.

Just finished an ultra violence play through of Doom Eternal on PS5 (played it on PC at release). Still love this game and the loop. Gonna start messing around more with the Master Levels and get the DLC since I never did those on PC.

Gave Blasphemous 2 another shot and enjoying it a lot more this time. I wasn't in the right mood for it when I started it originally and sort of passed it off as being inferior to the first game.

All this should hold me over until Death Stranding 2 which will likely consume my life for a couple months.

Bloodborne (PC)

And done. I cleared Defiled Chalice ver. of Amygdala as god intended: By never, ever engaging him in his weak spots unless I knew I had a clean swing. His arm flailing is just too dangerous and I got caught out enough trying to roll back behind him to safety. Of course, as anyone who's attempted this fight knows, there is no true safe spot against this boss. His arms reach to his tail too, but those attacks always come after the ones in front (and don't have that many active frames), so they're easy enough to predict, as are his regular leaps which he also does frequently when you're behind him. These leaps are a one-shot in Defiled Chalice as I experienced many times, but timing my rolls to when after the literal dust from the jump clears usually worked. Otherwise I just downed a beast pellet and kept attacking his butthole for piddling damage because that's way safer in the long run, even accounting for the raw number of attacks - however unlikely to hit - I had to dodge.

And I killed the Queen, Orphan of Kos(m), Gehrman, and Moon Presence too, but those fights were way less stressful.

And so I'm done with Bloodborne again. There's some stuff I don't like, such as how punishing Frenzy is - damage buildup on top of status buildup before the explosion from Winter Lanterns is overkill, but so many of the systems are great. Everyone loves Rally, of course, for incentivizing you to get right back into the fight, but also for some reason Bloodborne is the only, modern Fromsoft game that practically permits multiple equipment loadouts. Of course, Dark Souls and its ilk have equipment loads to consider, but this has never been a reason to not count only the weight of the currently equipped weapon. Being able to quickswap between weapons enables more play variety, and not being punished for it because you're obv. not using that other weapon (as opposed to the dozens in your pocket dimension that don't just happen to be equipped to some slot) is just great.

Other than that, enemy speed and capability in this game seem about right - probably about as close to the sweet spot as we've seen. Faster than Demons Souls & Dark Souls 1 without BS countermeasures from Dark Souls 2 (i.e. those turtle shell mofos intended to prevent backstab cheese) and more importantly enemy attack strings don't push the limit on dodging that starts becoming an issue in the backend of Dark Souls 3 and is an absolute, disastrous pandemic in Elden Ring. Throws with generous hitboxes and active frames are a nuisance too but not as bad as some enemies in Dark Souls 3 who can literally 180 no-scope in a single frame to throw you. Low boss and stage variety and overall easiness are still demerits against the game though. Even after replaying Dark Souls 3 a year and a half ago, I'm still not sure... mmm... Dark Souls 3 is probably the best, by a hair? It's really close. --- Those two are in a tier of their own imo, cleary better than the rest of From's stuff.

No, new game-breaking bugs, although I did suffer through a white screen a couple more times forcing hard resets.

Same. Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth tops my list of 'Metroidvanias to recommend'. It's short, fantastically beautiful, very fun to control and play. I only wish there was more of it, but I'll always take finely polished, small games over boring, gargantuan ones.

The final boss in Shadow of the Erdtree is absolutely wrecking me. I manage to take him on until his second phase but after that it's pretty much game over. He's just relentless in every aspect. Hits like a freight truck and is fast as fuck with some insane combos. This is gonna be a bumpy ride.

Worse than Malenia with her flurry attack? Impossible!

i beat malenia fair and square. and i also found her quite fun. it took me like 5 hours of attempts. (i'm not a skilled player) but i never was frustrated actually. i felt like i was improving all the time

with erdtree final boss, I just gave up and used shield poke cheese. i couldn't even be bothered to learn the constant shit barrage he throws at the screen. it was so frustrating it only took 1 hour before I realized this was the most bullshit boss ever I've encountered in a video game

malenia never felt that way...

Playing some F1 '25 on SX.

Good: Tech is great, even though it's probably 95% the same as last year, very clean, nice looking cars and tracks. Playing on the 60hz Quality mode, seems to be an extremely stable 60 with no drops.

Bad: The "story" mode is kind of frustrating in that I am doing extremely well in the race and then arbitrarily at the end of a scripted lap, the game wrestles control away from me to show a canned cinematic of my driver being a dumb-ass and crashing into another car, or wiping out, because the 'narrative' demands it. Yes, I know this is not a proper 'career' mode but it's still frustrating when it happens.

The HUD is extremely intrusive. I just play it with everything off, feels so much nicer and cleaner.

Took down the optional end boss in Dave the Diver. I think I'm done now after 100+ hours. Well, until the dlc arrives later this year at least.

I'm replaying Death Stranding (this time on PS5) before the sequel comes out and my opinion on the game didn't improve. I definitely have more negatives than positives to say about it.

The first contact with the game when both the gameplay and the story aren't that complex yet (and there aren't that many characters involved) is probably the best. The closer I get to the end, the more I get frustrated with different things. Absolutely hated Higgs boss fight, the second mission about carrying the bomb through the snowy areas was super frustrating (I didn't have the zipline network built) and I'm getting very annoyed with how the truck handles offroad.

The visuals and the story (despite its complexity and tons of wacky moments) is what keeps me motivated, but I'm pretty sure I won't be buying the sequel day 1.
