Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth (and done with it)
I'm afraid I've completely burned out on FF7 Rebirth after 32 hours. Finished Costa de Sol last night. And what a minigame hell it was. One obligatory, dull activity after another. Hours spent just trying to acquire swimwear (!) and make the story move along a little bit. And now I'm in the open world and have to do the same Ubi crap busy work from 2005 again. In Calm and Juno, it was still fresh and there was some balance. But this was terrible. I'm wary of the Golden Saucer. That was already awful in the original, with all the skiing and chocobo racing.

The world, and especially the cities, are beautiful. Perhaps the most beautiful ever in an JRPG. But it doesn't feel alive. Empty shells as NPCs, a handful of incredibly boring fetch quests, a million minigames, each one worse than the last, repetitive activities with the uber-annoying Chadley constantly blaring in your ear. Even the boss fights have become more frustrating because, after a mandatory hour of card games, you're thrown in completely unprepared with teammates you've barely used. And they're getting too hectic for the camera. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I'm constantly getting stun-locked.

The fun content - story, character interaction, and genuinely challenging battles - is superficial and far too fragmented.

How did they screw this up so badly? Who thought this would be fun for the fans? How hard can it be to create some interesting quests in that beautiful world and otherwise just let the player grind and experiment with materia, just like in the original? If necessary, throw in some bounties like in FFXV. But above all, keep the momentum going! They've created a beautiful world, but have no idea how to fill it. Out of desperation, they just copied Ubisoft and the Yakuza games instead of making an epic RPG like BG3.

Modern Square-Enix is truly dead. Creatively bankrupt. I honestly felt like I wasted my evening last night. And I rarely feel that way with games. How the hell did this ever end up on GOTY lists? I enjoyed the first game, but this is shit. It should have just been one game. And turn-based.

I just got to Tatooine in Star Wars Outlaws, and anybody telling you this game is no good must've bought it at launch.

Sooooo good!

finally got around to baldurs gate 3
really enjoying it so far

has some of that classic pc game clunk
a lot of characters arent paper thin cliches/dialogue is actually good
areas/locations have depth to them... good amount to explore and different ways to hit it
seems like a lot of bespoke events/touches throughout

Just finished Trails through Daybreak 2. I know it get's a fair amount of criticism but I *adore* the characters (most of them anyway), and I can put up with some grind when the story, characters, music, and graphics are this good.

I don't need graphics to get better than this level of fidelity - perfect stable image, nice clean designs, job done.

Moving on to Romancing Saga 2 remake while I wait for the late arrival of Trails in the Sky

I'm about to wrap up the Clair Obscure main plot. Will probably be done with it later today. I'm a bit surprised at the amount of post-game content of this game. Not sure if I'm going to tackle it though.

Aside from that I started another run on Alan Wake 2 to get the Platinum. Now that I know that Sweet Baby Inc was involved I can't unsee their input… But man, this game looks insane still. One if not the graphical showcase of this gen.

There's been a few games that Modern Square Enix has released that I loved but those are unfortunately only a few games. So I agree with you. I miss the day when SquareEnix made a variety of games in different genres and made JRPGs that aren't Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts

Metroid Zero Mission

One of my favorite games. Takes me back to the good old GBA days when you chilled in bed and played on your newly acquired SP thinking life is good. It's also one of the best remakes ever made. Nintendo knocked it out of the park with this one.

Lords of the Fallen (2023), XSX. Decided to get back into it, I'm very close to the end. Its definitely a solid 7.5-8.0/10 so far. Doesn't hit the highs of Elden Ring, but its still good enough. I'll certainly do NG+ right after.

You should try doing random loot with pre-leveled gear while going for the Umbral Ending. Hits some highs beyond Elden Ring in my opinion if you focus on throwables, crossbow, and heavy weapons.

I just wrapped up a playthrough of Quake II: Call of the Void mod. What a great addition to the game. If I didn't knew it was fan made, I would easily assume it was an official expansion

Beside it, I also got back to Persona 3 Portable and resumed my playthrough. I just reached August

Currently playing Thronefall

I also would like to get Hell is Us, Cronos or Silent Hill F. The problem is I'm swamped with work and two kids involved in sports, so I'm unable to play much right now. I'm leaning towards Hell is Us since I've heard the combat in Silent Hill F is not good.

I hear this - memories of a simpler, better world. OG GBA for me though, I much preferred the buttons and wide grip, even if I needed a wormlight.

Yeah, the SP was a bit uncomfortable due to its small size. OG GBA wins in that department for sure. But I loved the clamshell design on SP. It felt so innovative and fresh for its time. It was the first time it really clicked for me with handheld gaming. The GBA library was amazing. A portable SNES in your pocket. At the time I thought it couldn't get much better than that 😃

Just beat Clair Obscur.

Let me preface and say that I was never a big fan of turn based combat. I think I only completed FFIX and X.

… but Sandall improved the system so much it's crazy. I'm baffled no one got the idea to make the combat more interactive like this. It's so good. Had so much fun with it… and some dumb luck with the pictos as well it seems. I'm not one to look to much into a games system and what works best but buy the end of the game I steamrolled most of the regular enemies and even the last few bosses went don't faster than I expected.

Wasn't the biggest fan of the strange lore of this game but boy did the characters made up for it. Loved every one of the companions. Plot itself was alright but took too long to give you a clear picture of what is going on. But again, the ending made up for it.

GOTY for sure. Can fully recommend. 9/10

I think you can tell E33 roped in a lot of people that don't play JRPGs because lots of different JRPGs have been doing interactive elements during turn based combat like this since the 90's.

The backlit screen was awesome for sure. That library was unreal too, the entire platform felt like last bastion of 2D games.

Just beat Chapter 6 of "The Evil Within" so I guess I'm about halfway through this game and my thoughts so far:

  • I have no idea what the story is about nor do I care about ANY of the lackluster characters or their motivations
  • Ruvik the emo teen looking goth in the hoodie is the main villain? Pshhhh
  • No memorable music except the repetitive (classical song) that keeps playing in certain rooms/areas
  • Reviews have led me to believe it's survival horror, but it's RE4 with limited ammo
  • Cool enemy variation I'll give it that, those huge trolls, the long haired woman
  • Some ruins, dungeons, and areas really remind me Dark Souls 1/3 for some reason
  • Thematically I don't understand Mikami's intent for this game. Is it some psychological nightmare? Nothing seems grounded in reality, gory set pieces just for the hell of it. Yes there are tense moments but that's with enemy gauntlets not actual atmosphere, mood, art design.
  • Texture pop up every damn camera change during cutscenes
  • Only thing keeping me going is the desire to blow apart the heads of these (undead/demons/creatures) who stand in my way of the mystery of this perplexing narrative.
Gonna play till the end, hopefully it gets better not worse! Are the DLC worth playing or skip it?

DLCs are laborious time wasters. The main game has 15 chapters. Only 4 are good. You already played Ch. 5 (dilapidated hospital) but you have Ch. 9 (mansion), Ch. 11 (sinking city), and Ch. 12 (highway to hell) to look forward to. I can't say that there won't be a lot of terrible sections to trudge through beyond those or that the ending will leave you with anything more than relief that the suffering is over. I think this game is greatly overrated and the sequel is much better.

Just finished Cultic Chapter 2... glad it's over to be honest.
The price is good for a ~9 hour game but the game itself was poor compared to Cultic 1. (Terrible map design, tedious boss fights and a real scarcity of ammo. The Steam Discussions Board for this game are filled with players struggling and the Dev just trying to give them hints rather than address the core issues.)

Still finishing some other stuff in DS2. And will be playing again, GT7 and Stellar blade. Just waiting for BF6 and I might purchase SH f this week. I will still wait for reviews especially from Grumz, pirat nation, JT smash, and Vara dark, on the wokeness level of GOY, if it will be infested with woke agendas, before I decide if I will also buy this game or not.

I tried the Yooka Laylee Replaylee demo. I didn't like the original at all. This new version is a significant improvement over the original, in the graphics and control department.

It has a few issues, the text is very small on a TV, and the camera is so far zoomed out I can barely see the character.

The main character is green, so he's hard to see in the grass.

Currently Cyberpunk 2077 again on my 8th run, katana and throwing knives build.

Got the platinum a while ago and recently managed to fill all weapon stash wall slots with the iconic weapons, both sides.
Also got every single possible vehicle on that character.

Just to kill some time till ghost of yotei.

Finished -> Ori and the will of Wisps -> Control Ultimate Editon but didnt like Ninja Gaiden 2 because i get pain in my elbow from all the button smashing..
Started Playing -> Detroit: Become Human -> Hades (the first one is on gamepass now) -> Persona 4 Golden

Playing Alan Wake 2 until October when I'll jump into the new Silent Hill.

I must say that I enjoy AW2 much more than on my first run… and It's clearly because I play it with a collectibles guide this time. Spent way too much time searching for pages, boxes etc the first time and it completely ruined the pacing. Much more fun now when I don't have to bother and just focus on the story.

And boy… this I mention how goos this game looks? One if not the most impressive games graphically this gen.

Silent Hill f
Approaching the end of the game. Loved every minute. Definitely going to play it a few more times for all the endings.

World of Warcraft
I really like the zones in War Within, the delves are really fun, and there's plenty of other content to do, but the storytelling is beyond abysmal. It's just flat and boring. I also think it's too 'big'. Warcraft is at its best when it's orcs vs humans. When it's simple. All these cosmic and void entities just aren't interesting in my opinion.

Silent Hill f - Finished - 9.5/10
Loved this from start to finish. Atmosphere, setting, sound design were all incredible. I really liked the story, too. Was also really impressed by the visuals; Recently made the jump from PS5 to PC and it's the first retail game that I've bought. Going to get all the other endings before FF: Tactics is released.

Finished Metroid Zero Mission. Phenomenal remake of a true classic. Expands on the original game in a beautiful and poignant way, paving the way for a more fleshed out experience where you learn more about Samus and the Chozos that wasn't included in the original. Updated graphics and controls, it looks and plays better than the original ever could. Zero Mission is so improved that going back to the original is nearly impossible, other than nostalgia or just playing it for novel reasons. Zero Mission stands the test of time and holds up remarkably well by todays standards.

Tried out Mario Galaxy for the first time today during the weekend, the whole perspective side of things takes getting used to as well as using the Wii-mote with the nunchuck...I'll get back into it eventually but the Wii is a console on rotation, amongst the likes of the Xbox Series X, PS4 Pro, PS3, and Vita..

Finished Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

This was such a great game, and I'm so glad that I gave it a chance. The combat is nice and weighty, there are plenty of plenty of quests and objectives to fulfil (perhaps too many..!), and the story itself is quite decent. After Life is Strange, this is Dont Nod's best game. It's an utter shame that it arrived during such a packed month (Feb 2024), and ended up going overlooked.

I played on Hard, and while to begin with I got my arse handed to me, I soon found the combat merely became challenging (final boss only took 3 attempts).

This is my next go to game. Finished Hogwarts Legacy, and super excited to get this one going.

DK Bananza and TOTK Switch 2.
DKB because I find it to be absolutely digital crack, I can't stop smiling when I play it and TOTK simply because I find it to be the best open world I've ever played.
Although I really wish these two games would have used DLSS and that the chipset supported Nvidia frame generation.

Been a busy few weeks:
Completed Cronos
Completed Silent Hill f
Finishing up Returnal
Uninstalled Borderlands 4
Played some Hades 2 1.0

Also picked up Urban Myth Dissolution Center. Sooooooo fucking cool.

Today my dream of playing Driveclub on PC has come true, I finally got it running on ShadPS4. I play a lot of racers and up to this day Driveclub still holds the crown for amazing weather effects, and the hell a strong blizzard or rainfall cause to the view during a race. Even with some graphical glitches, missing effect and 1080p internal resolution, the game still looks glorious!
Can't wait for more advancements on Driveclub's emulation.

I'm also glued to Need for Speed Unbound, but not the standard game... I installed the Unite 1.3 mod, along with revamped handling, more aggressive cops, teleport to anywhere on the map, extreme stance mod, my preferred controller layout, etc... It has become a completely new game, the handling is now actually enjoyable, you feel more in control of the car compared to the original. And all the online stuff (like the motorbike or drag racing) can be used in Single Player after you beat story.

Also loving Tokyo Extreme Racer on my Steam Deck, very addictive and fun.

I'm on my racing game binge mode :)

I started playing DAO this past weekend. So far it's a good game, even though the gameplay and graphics feel a bit dated, but the story is good and the characters are interesting.

While you are on the binge, check this out:

I'm currently playing the second digimon cyber sleuth game. It is pretty much a recycle of the assets of the first game with the main difference being where you get your quests and the new group you hang out with for the main storyline. It hasn't been as good as I remember the first one being but it honestly feels like that is due to them being either lazy or cheap on the sequel or both but I'm still enjoying it. I did start the wuchang game a bit before this and some sword gliding on the sand game. I'll go back to the wuchang, silksong , sword flying indie games after I finish digimon if I don't buy the newest digimon game.

Star Wars Outlaws on Switch 2. Graphics are insanely impressive. It's like the most impressive I've seen so far on the platform, even Cyberpunk which I thought looked amazing. Switch 2 really showing its muscles here 💪

Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the 7. I'm enjoying this overall, but there's no signposting about the toughness of enemies in each area. Sometimes they're about at your level, sometimes you'll open a new area and the enemies are all capable of one-shotting a party member. I've been caught out a couple of times.

Also Path of Achra on PC - I had a burst of successful runs, and now every combination I play I get wrecked. I think I've played all the easy combos/builds

I never thought I'd enjoy them, but when I tried, I changed my mind. The only thing I don't like is that there are so many sites, and I have no idea which one is worth choosing. When I was browsing around I came across this page https://onlinecasinosbe.com/fr/nouveau-casino/ which provided me with useful information about casinos, and what is offered there. Each was new to me, so I decided to start playing in the first one, and I've been enjoying such an experience.
Yeah, I get what you mean. Rebirth really feels like it leans too much on filler instead of trusting the core strengths of the series. The world looks amazing, but if the quests and minigames don't feel rewarding, the whole thing falls flat. It's frustrating when a game with so much potential ends up dragging itself down with busywork.
