What game did Yoshi debut in?

I'm having an argument with a girl at work. Apparantely there was a Mario game on the NES in which Yoshi debuted.

But I believe it was Super Mario World on the SNES.

Yes, it was Super Mario World. He was later in Mario's Time Machine which was on NES as well as Yoshi (Yoshi's egg), a puzzler. I don't think Yoshi's cookie made it to NES, but I may be wrong.

Remember that Yoshi introduces himself to Mario when he is freed from his egg for the first time in Super Mario World. I may still have the issue of Nintendo Power that first introduced him (issue 26 or 27, I think).

Can you name those NES games in which Yoshi was in?

Because the girl distinctly remembers playing the NES and seeing Yoshi. She never had an SNES.

SMW - 1991
Yoshi's Cookie (NES) - 1992

- Yoshi's Cookie is the only NES game I'm aware of... what others are there?

Yoshi's Cookie is one.

But again... as mentioned (and I didn't mention this in my post)... he appeared FIRST on SNES... and then a few times after on NES.

Edit: Nicely done, levious

Edit2: On second thought... I can't think of any other NES games either. Someone?

Yoshi
Yoshi's Cookie
Mario is Missing
He may or may not appear in Mario's Time Machine as well.

There's also a Gameboy / NES game just called Yoshi, I believe, which is a tetris type game where you have to put goombas in eggs. Then there's Yoshi's Cookie & Mario Is Missing, as has been pointed out.

Forgot that Missing and Time were "multi" platform. Good call.

There was a game entitled, Yoshi? Wow... don't remember that.

This is Yoshi:

Edit: Here's an NES screen too:

YES! I remember this game now. Not a bad puzzler at all. Got boring... but it was fun for a bit.

Yeah, it's good but it's a bit simple. I think the catch was you were supposed to get as many of the same bad guy in an egg as possible, but that wasn't exceptionally hard.

It's no Dr. Mario / Picross / Tetris / Yoshi's Cookie / Tetris Attack etc., but that just goes to show how awesome the NES was for puzzle games.

There was a pre-cursor to Yoshi in Devil World (Japan and Europe-only), which was released in 1984. The main character is a little dragon that looks a lot like the baby Yoshis from SMW except with wings, has the same coloring as Yoshi, hatches out of an egg, and the egg hatching sound is the same as Yoshi's egg hatching sound.

I always felt like I was wasting my money on puzzlers for the NES... especially when they could be done so easily on the Gameboy.

Please... this is Nintendo we are talking about.

You forgot Wario's Woods. Did a Picross game come out for NES? I know there was a GB one and SNES one. Also, was there a Tetris Attack for NES? I doubt it.

I never played Wario's Woods... I was thinking of original GB games too when I wrote that. I don't think half of those games came out on NES (and I think Picross only was for the SFC in Japan).
