What great licenses should be made into a game?

Or even what great licenses have been used that should get another game?

Shadowrun is one that comes to mind... I'm not too familiar with the universe, but a sci-fi/magic filled universe strikes me as pretty cool. Maybe a roleplaying in the vein of morrowind would be nice.

Battletech is a licensed that's been used alot... but other than MW2 I don't think they've ever quite captured the spirit of the universe... at least back then, ignoring the fact that it's something of a joke now. I'd be nice to see a BT game in the style of the MW2 cutscenes/intro...

Dragon Lance would be a nice licence to use again... I don't think there's been a game since the goldbox series...

Capcom needs to buy the Buffy/Angel license and do a 2D fighter and an old school beat em up. These two games would in fact be the best games ever.

I didn't think the light-gun Term. shooter was that bad...

I've had this premonition about a Blues Brothers game. Keep in mind that, as a southside Chicago citizen, it's required that this is my favorite movie ;)

But anyway, I thought it'd be great to have a game play along just like the movie, and have you do certain parts...

- the inital walk through the prison, and see how closely you can keep in lock step with the guards

- decice what manner you'd want to round up the members of the band

- have some sort of music-game style playing for the actual music parts

- all of the driving scenes would be great game fodder by default, chases as well as covering city area for the "exploitation" before Da Gig

and so on. I think it could work :)

My picks:

Blood Syndicate: Could be either free roaming action adventure, or City of Heroes from an urban perspective.

ATHF: I have no idea how it would play, I'd go for a wacky first person shooter/adventure type game set in ATHF's neighborhood. Even if it turned out bad, I'd want it just for the sake of running around town as Frylock with a shotgun, or even better, Meatwad.

Monty Python: Seriously, it's just been way too long now since we've had a Python game. A modern 3d Monty Python style adventure game would be a dream come true.

I'll say it over and over until somebody makes it happen.

The Road Warrior: As an MMO with vehicles and PKing.

Licenses suck. All games should have original characters and settings. But if you insist, I guess an RPG set in the world of China Mieville's novels could be kinda cool.

A Battle Royal game would kick ass.

Depending on the dificulty you chose you could be in a class filled with tame sheep ready for slaughter or a bunch of bloodthirsty Kiriyamas all after your ass.

Add to that all diferent possibilities of forging temporary alliances , diferent strategies depending on what kind of item you get , diferent islands with changing danger zones... ahh.. so much potential.

I'd like to see a game using the James Bond license that is based on one of the earlier movies, like Dr. No or Goldfinger. The most powerful weapon in the game would be a machine gun, the music would be period-specific, and Bond would actually look like '60s Connery. I don't understand why that hasn't happened yet.

The Wheel of Time!!!!!!!!

Star Trek RPG

a real Final Fantasy Tactics (Starring Barret!)

"The Batman" cartoon. The design of the cartoon fits so well into a Viewtiful Joe-esque Beat em up.
IAWTP. Saw it today for the first time, with the Bane ep. Really good

Star Trek RPG? It's called Star Ocean :P

My pics:

Full House (fighter)
Kill Bill (Dynasty Warriors style)
The Passion Of The Christ (side scrolling platformer)
Seinfeld (fighter)
David The Gnome (side scrolling platformer)

Man, that would rock!

Waterworld (a guilty pleasure of mine) could be the water based version. Léon would also rock, but it's essentially Hitman with a frech accent while satisfying the pedo in all of us

At least half of the licenses mentioned have been made into (mostly bad) games already. I rarely buy licensed games, even when they are good, because I feel that the original medium is the bewst way to tell the story. It is just how I rarely read the manga and watch the anime to a series: I decide which of the two fits it better (unless they are radically different).

I do like a few games that are set within pre-existing universes and tell original stories, such as many of the Star Wars games. X-Wing and Dark Forces were some of my favorite gaming experiences with any pre-existing non-game property (Dark Forces is the last FPS I liked). The Parasite Eve games also go far beyond their license. Kingdom Hearts also did something with a license that would not have been as effective in another medium.

That said, I would be all over a Blade of the Immortal, Jinx, Sharpe's Rifles, or Horatio Hornblower game. The same for a Great Teacher Onizuka adventure. A National Geographic exploration and photography game might be cool. I would also have to purchase the David the Gnome platformer.

Also, there is supposedly a new Hellboy game in development, at least according to interviews from around the time the movie came out:
http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0403/30/index.htm
The film was featured on G4, the video-game cable network.

"They're working on a Hellboy video game," star Ron Perlman said. "And that they're taking their time. They're not rushing it to the marketplace because they want it to be something that's memorable and lasting rather than something that's just attached to a piece of pop culture that comes and goes."

"What I hate the most is quickie, movie-linked video games," said director Guillermo del Toro. I'm a gamer and I hate those games that I buy that are really crap."

It can't be said enough. ;)

I'd also like to see Kill Bill and Sin City in the hands of great developers.

Star Ocean 3 is better than any Star Trek game I have ever played, although the PC and NES 25th anniversary adventure games were pretty good.

Road Warrior would be a good choice in the right hands (and I daresay WoT would be as well), but the easy #1 choice for me would be GANTZ.

There was supposed to be a Hellraiser game on NES, using a special chip to improve graphics... but it got canned since the cart price would end up being too high.

Rebellion was also working on an FPS for the Atari Jaguar based on the Hellraizer license but it also got canned.

Sin City, definitely.

It's an "easy" license, because you wouldn't have to use any of the stories/characters for the actual game, but have them all as NPCs and in Cut-Scenes.

It could quite possibly become the best looking game ever if someone talented enough got their hands on the license.

I know this is crazy, but I think it'd be kinda funny to have a game based on the old 1960s Batman TV series

It'd be great because of all the 60s references they could add and each level could be based off a certain villain (Joker, Catwoman, Riddler, Penguin, Bookworm, Clock King, etc.).
