FF17, what should it be like?

like Rebirth

but instead of chadley you have GIGACHADLEY. He speaks with the voice of that guy who played Putty on Seinfeld

zero sausagefests rolling around in cars, also swimsuits don't have more frills on them than a wedding dress in this kingdom

Moonbas make a return (it's just time)

Salmon is the new star and his theme song replaces the title screen scales in all FF games henceforth

To the people who are asking for turn based... are you asking for the type of turn based we used to have in the older FF / Dragon Quest? Because I always found these combats absolutely terrible.
There is nothing strategic about them, usually you just have to spam auto attack, sooometimes in some boss fights you will have to use more specific attacks, but that's it.
I never understood the interest about these combats.

Turn based can be good, if it's something like Persona 5, or more tactical stuff like Midnight Suns, but the old style turn based / atb is really dumbed down and boring to me. It's basically anti gameplay.

If they do make a new FF turn based, it would really have to be a new improved, more interesting system.

For me, please just be Nomura's sci-fi futuristic lots of belts FF7/8/13/15 setting like copycat.

No medieval stuff please.

Battle can be whatever, but something like FF12 again would be nice?

My dream would be Not touched at all by Nomuras awful designs which was what set FF down the shitter in the long term. Lets return back to the original spirit of Amano and The Gooches original vision...just in a big wide world. Being able to board an airship in realtime and a large vast exploration, the spirit of adventure thats been missing since it turned to broody slop/

2D-HD classic turn based Final Fantasy with a simple hero story as usual. Like a follow up to FF6.

Everything modern or nomura like is another vomit inducing dogshit failed pseudo-FF game.

It still feels so magical....i love ancient buried technology. Going to the moon was amazing. The music is still the series best.

I also like it, but I feel like the late-medieval/renaissance world featuring ruins of a dead civilization with advanced technology is so over done these days. It's got to be the majority of JRPG settings. Just put me in the heyday of the advanced civilization for a change.

Battle system wise something like remake, but if they go back to turn base I don't mind too.

Stay away from FFXII and don't get inspired by turn-based Atlus games.

Setting wise something like FFXV. That game had an insane potential and never reach it's peak.

As of March 2025, Square Enix has not announced Final Fantasy XVII, and no details are available. Their current focus is completing the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.

At G-STAR 2024, director Naoki Hamaguchi and producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that FFVII Remake Part 3 is in production. They also hinted at features like free-flight exploration. Given the four-year gap between Remake and Rebirth, the final part may not arrive before 2027.

With this timeline in mind, Final Fantasy XVII will likely enter development only after the remake trilogy is complete. Fans might expect news in the late 2020s or early 2030s. Until then, anything about FFXVII remains pure speculation.

I want one aaa turn based final fantasy game back to look if it's gonna sell 15m copies first month like some people think it would so we can finally let that thought go.

Atlus has turn based down to a science. Square enix would have to rip off their rock scissor paper tactic if they want to go back to turn based

It'll be like 16 made by the 16 devs and it'll have lots of MMO quests, barely any RPG mechanics, crippled devil may combat and story written to appeal western audiences. You can tell I'm stoked.

I just hope the word stagger doesn't appear anywhere in the game, not even in dialogue. For a series that pats itself on the back for reinventing the wheel with every entry they can't seem to get away from FF13's mechanics

Just make a game they themselves want to play instead of chasing trends.

If they still wanna chase trend, go all out and make story focused Elden Ring, something like Avowed but bigger.

i am okay to play action combat game, but hard to say i am enjoy FF game when it turn more and more action base, i think they should look at last remnant and make similiar combat system like this but with more customize, in last remnant you can only customize your main character unless you play on PC and using mod

4 party members, all highly customizable thanks to a job system. Also ATB combat system.

Basically a sequel to FFV. Or a prequel, or whatever. But something like FFV would be awesome.
Yes bring back turn based rpg in a AAA package.

If they make it turn based, they will also have more leeway for a generation defining graphics. RPG elements is what will carry the gameplay loop. Turn based is okay!

I don't agree with this argument that keeps coming up. Japanese character design is what it is—whimsical, and especially in Final Fantasy, always stylish before being anything else, let alone some kind of statement.
? lol huh? um...I never made any comment about that being some statement, merely that those types of characters exist in Japan....

Worse when you can't explore or it isn't expounded on. It's just vague nonsense these days.
