Mr Cola

Brothas With Attitude / The Wrong Brotha to Fuck Wit / Die Brotha Die / Brothas in Paris
Im in two minds about him, firstly the office, the original, was brilliant. Following on from this he did a series of radio shows with his co-writer on xfm which were pretty fantastic, if anyone is interested they are easily findable on the internet, they are like the older podcasts he did before he started charging, comedy gold. Now he is an annoying, smug (but not "mocking" smug), been in some awful movies and seems to have pissed off hollywood. Further to this he is doing something he swore he would never do and playing his character from the British office in the American one in the weeks coming up. When asked about it he said

""It's not my job to worry about what people think of me," he will be heard saying. "That's the job of a politician.

"They hired me for a job," he continues. "If they didn't want me, they shouldn't have hired me."

So what happened? Did he just sell out and become shit?

:(

Whoa really? That should be... interesting.

I still think he's funny though.

His most recent podcasts were great, that show with Karl Pilkington was hilarious and I have some high hopes for his next tv-show (with Stephen Merchant) about that midget from Willow.

Yeah his movies have sucked, but I still think he's funny. And he was hilarious at the Golden Globes. Any non-EllenDegenereNeilPatrickHarrisBillyCrystal host would have said the same things.

You means besides the wheelbarrows he needs to carry his huge balls in when he's in Hollywood?

I dunno.

He's actually in his prime, as far as mainstream audience is concerned. The Golden Globe's just helped his career x100. I doubt many people even know the office was once a British show.

whatever happened to him, it's better than before

ROFL are you fucking serious?

I love Ricky, but that man sold the fuck out.

his american movies are some of the worst movies i've ever seen. and Cemetery Junction was fucking awful

He got big, moved to the states and is now just fucking about.

He's still the same Ricky, he seems to be enjoying himself and putting less effort into things.

He's co-writing Life's Too Short with The Merchandise which should be good. An Idiot Abroad Season 2 or something similar will be happening. I still look forward to everything he does.

Haven't noticed a change. You jumped from "he's brilliant" to "now he's annoying and smug" without any real explanation.

Yeah that's the first time a Gervais/Merchant collaboration sucked balls. But I guess it proved to us that they just can't handle drama. Comedy-wise they're still on.

I see no change either. He was aways a brillant, but smug asshole. Always.

He knows he's funny, he's set for life financially, and he doesn't give a shit if anyone doesn't like it.

I don't see the problem.

Pretty much.

Oh and Cemetery Junction wasn't awful, I liked what they were trying to do. Was worth watching anyway.

It really wasn't. I actually really enjoyed it. I'm sure it's much, much different than anything that anyone expected from Gervais, but he can afford to make whatever he wants now. Some people will never like him if he isn't being David Brent, and that's fine, but he's still hilarious, and anything he does with Karl and Stephen Merchant is great.

You didn't mention Extras which was even better than The Office.
Truth.

He made a shit ton of cash and told it like it was. This was the second time at the GG for him I think. Basically he has FU money and has a set of balls. Fine with me, these Hollywood types have such inflated egos, the rest of our country somehow gives a shit about them and their lives, and now they cant take a few shots through their thin skin. Bravo Ricky.

I think he's brilliant, but also quite an asshole.

And I think he's totally aware of how much of an asshole he is. The end of Extras pretty much confirmed it, in my mind.

I think one is an extension of the other. Many great people throughout history were assholes, and pushed their craft to higher levels because of it.

Very true, and I give Gervais a lot of credit for fully acknowledging it.

Yeah, this was his second time doing the same thing, what did Hollywood expect? It was funny and I expect it'll be the same result as when Stewart hosted the Oscars. They complain and he isn't brought back despite it being the only reason some people tuned in.

He does pretty good standup, too. I'll always have time for Ricky Gervais. I'll also find the time to lol at how hurt celebrities get when somebody makes a quip about them.

Cemetery Junction was very good, it just wasn't what fans were expecting from a "Ricky Gervais movie."

And I'll second (or third or fourth at this point) that Extras is even better than The Office.

i dunno, the more you look into it the more hitler looked like quite a modest man.

Jokes aren't funny unless there is truth to them. Hollywood doesn't like being laughed at if they can'#t control the satire.

He did a brilliant job of humoring the rest of us while skewering those who would think to be untouchable in their awards forum.
