What happened to Ricky Gervais?

He's still fucking hilarious. It's so annoying to read people posting shit about things like "Oh man guysssss I used to love ____ BUT NOT ANYMORE... ____ changed"

No he's always been a smug but hilarious asshole. If he gave a shit he wouldn't have released Invention of Lying in the states... a movie sure to piss people off unless the jabs at religion go right over their heads.

Hating on gervais? Really? REALLY?! Sometimes I really fucking hate gaf.

Nice try, asshole, but gervais is Fucking great. Go watch some more shit that won't offend your morals, dick-bag.

Hey! I liked the Ghost Movie and the Lie Movie.
Hated the ghost movie, like the Lying movie primarily because of Garner.

I like him better as a comedian and the bad guy on Alias.

All his films have been bad so far, but The Office and Extras are both incredible, as is the podcast, so I have faith his next show will be great too.

Never really liked him, cant stand listening to him.

And you have a Kevin Smith avatar. You could have just posted "I have awful taste, don't listen to me" and saved everyone the trouble of decoding it.

Kevin smith is awful, i just can't be arsed to change my avatar.

So, what about all this hate after his performance? Was that all an act to get attention or did he really bashed some ego's?

His act about Hitler interpreting Nietzsche is still hilarious:

It was just Gervais being Gervais, and it brought attention to an awards ceremony no one cares about, so the committee and actors involved acted shocked just long enough to hide the boners they were getting from the publicity.

Am I the only one who finds Ricky Funny only when Karl is in the equation? I know half the shit Karl says and does is an act.. (Believing Karl is "real" is like being a child in the 80s and believing Hulk Hogan in WWF is real).

Which makes me come to a conclusion that: Solo Ricky (his stand up crap) isn't really that funny. Just keep making podcasts with Karl and Steve Ricky and I'm entertained and happy

Kevin Smith is like Ricky Gervais in that he's a tremendous podcaster.

Edit: Also, I have a mancrush on Stephen Merchant. Portal 2, bay-beee!

He is pimping out Karl Pilkington, which he should be doing

Everyones to do list

1) watch an idiot abroad
2) listen to ricky gervais show
3) listen to "a day in the life of karl pilkington"

find all of these on itunes or wherever

This should be the entirety of the content for every news article about this thing.

I think the smugness isn't an act. If you watch his stand-up, you can tell he's a pompous arse.

I saw clips of An Idiot Abroad, and it looks like it might be half decent, as Karl Pilkington did say quite a few amusing things (scripted or not), but the clips with Ricky Gervais and his fucking annoying laugh means I'll never know, as I won't be watching it.

On a side note, I saw this ad for An Idiot Abroad on a billboard, and I'm willing to bet that Ricky had the final say on being sat right in front of the actual main fucking "character" of the show.

he is doing something he swore he would never do and playing his character from the British office in the American one in the weeks coming up.

You mean they wanted the famous person to be the one that people saw first on the poster? What a fucked-up method of advertising.

Extras is ace.
Much much much better than The Office. (UK >>>>>>>>>>>> US)

He's also the most famous person in that advertisement by an infinite order of magnitude, but whatever.

I missed out on the whole Globes Controversy. It's hilarious how many people got upset. I mean really, gervais did the exact same thing that he did the year before... What did they expect?

This really is hilarious.

He made a shit ton of cash and told it like it was. This was the second time at the GG for him I think. Basically he has FU money and has a set of balls. Fine with me, these Hollywood types have such inflated egos, the rest of our country somehow gives a shit about them and their lives, and now they cant take a few shots through their thin skin. Bravo Ricky.

Yea, I was actually irritated by how offended Hollywood was. These are some of the richest people on Earth, and they're getting fucking awards for the movies that they're already paid millions to be in - and they can't take a fucking joke? These people are assholes.

I think a lot of people don't understand that when he is on stage he adopts a persona, he admitted that on the commentary to his first stand-up. The person who hosted the Globes is not the same one who is on the Karl Pilkington show.

Personally I thought the Globes stuff was hilarious, all he did was take the piss out of a bunch of self-important millionaires. It was embarrassing how thin-skinned they all were. Only in America could there be a fuss about material like that. Jonathan Ross has been doing that shit for years.

WHOOSH

I heard he went overboard at the Golden Globes, then they showed some clips of him and I didn't see anything that made him look like he went overboard. Dude's a comedian, I don't know maybe they didn't show all the right clips? Sounds like overreacting and taking things too seriously. Now that Chelsea Lately on the MTV Music Awards, that was a bad host.

In what universe is taking a job and using the opportunity to completely fucking eviscerate the community you're supposed to represent ever considered selling out?
Being poor and without a job is the only way to stick it to the man now-a-days, I guess.

there was a clause in his Office contract that got him a cut of every version of that show, he is rolling in cash

Huh, a couple years ago, I couldn't stand the guy. Didn't understand how any one could find him or the Office UK funny. Not sure exactly what happened, but he has gradually become more and more likeable to me. I find myself watching his stand up special every time I flip by it on TV. I'm going back and digging up old podcasts. Oh, and holy shit at Karl Pilkington. Strangely enough, his Golden Globes deal really just pushed him right to the top, to the point where I actually want to go back and try to watch the UK Office again.

The more I think about it, I just didn't 'get' British humor at all just a few short years ago. It's like this glorious bastard opened up a whole new world for me.

Merely watching "The Office" you can see his and Stephen Merchant's name in the opening credits for Exec. Producer. I wasn't insinuating he was poor.

Saw him at a bar in Hell's Kitchen (NYC) a few years back. I was just kinda watching him from afar because I hate approaching celebrities (or even people I know for that matter, but I digress). Anyway, he was acting real annoyed and pissy because the waitress was taking too long to get him his check (they were super slow that day). It just kind of struck me as funny because I could see the characters he plays coming out IRL.

Like Karl isn't a frikin famous person by now! seriously though! if you know two things about Rick Gervias... Chances are the second thing is Karl Pilkington.
Considering the title of the show is "An idiot abroad" and it's about the adventures of Karl Pilkington.

Yes! I would expect him to the be the dominant figure in that poster... only if every goddamn producer in Hollywood put their smug faces on the poster of their movies or TV shows.

His movies have been disappointments, but I have enjoyed everything else he has done, especially the pod casts.

Looking forward to Life's Too Short.

Fuck the haters!

Is he really doing the American Office? Fuck, that is lame.

Other than that he's still awesome though.
