What is a liberal/conservative? If you don't know - stop using the terms!

All to often people have some retarded need to label themselves and those they 'oppose' with stupid terms so they can try to demonize each other. So I'll ask people here, define what you mean by liberal and conservative. What is the 'liberal media'? What is a right-winger? What is a left-winger?

I swear everytime I hear the terms I want to just give that person and open head slap to the face because I know they have no idea what they're saying - just using the term that is supposed to identify 'the other team'. In effect, it makes most of these people sound pretty ignorant because in the vast majority of cases they've just latched onto the term and have no idea what it really means.
 
A liberal hates America, loves terrorism, and wants to take your money so he can give it to the Evil Poor Darkies that are going to inevitably break into your house and kidnap your pretty white wife and force her to crank out entire cords of mocha-colored babies.

A conservative loves America, hates Osama, and wants to let you have your money so you can enjoy your God-ordained FREEDOM to buy lots of superfluous shit from our corporate masters as well as own guns to protect yourself from the evils of race mixing.
 
Liberals like to have gay sex with eachother, but are open about it.

Conservatives like to demonize gay sex, and then have it in private.

I'm a registered Republican, but only because the Democratic party is such a mess that I'd rather support the only party that could possibly make any difference in my life. I can definitely be more conservative than liberal, but I like to straddle that nice line in the middle without needlessly bashing Republicans. Which apparently, is impossible if you post in this forum. Or if you're Diablos.

Plus, in Maryland, you cannot be an Independent if you wish to vote in the primaries, which are a big deal to me. Now that I'm in California, I need to look at the state rules regarding that.
 
Let me add one more thing before I leave to abort babies and steal money from the poor.

Mandark, I want to personally apologize to you, because the biggest mistake I made during my short reign as the only Republican in Montgomery County, was voting Bob Ehrlich into office and leaving the state to watch him destroy it from abroad.

Then again, you sent me Kwame Brown, so I guess we're even.

They are subjective terms, so it depends on the time and the issue. I always defer to Wikipedia.

I'm no fan of Glendening's cronies, for a lot of documented reasons, and was quick to vote for Ehrlich after seeing my tuition rise exponentially within a year prior to the elections. Ehrlich with his fancy pants and get-rich promises enticed me as a way of seeing the state help out with my rising education costs, but only afterwards did I realize that it was all flashy talk with no real substance. I haven't seen anything as unsatisfying of a promise since Gilmore's infamous "No Car Tax" bit back in the late 90s. If Duncan doesn't get elected, that state might truly regress backwards for the worst.

Fuck slots.

I'd rather vote for an ineffective administration with positive policies than an effective administration with negative policies. That's just me though.

Anyway, I think if you're going to be talking about American politics, you need to add a couple categories, like neo-conservatives and moderates, because we all know the "conservatives" right now are largely not conservative at all.
 
In general, I tend to think:

A liberal person is someone that favors ideas and government that is new and different than what's existing in the society.

A conservative person is someone that favors ideas and government that is either existing or used to exist.

However that's very broad, and doesn't hold up all the time.

For example, would a conservative person by definition support increasing the government size and destroying the environment?

So clearly Republican != conservative.

Except I never voted for Bush.

Just because I'm a registered Republican means I vote down party lines, guy. I dislike Bush as a President, but that doesn't mean the Republican party can't do things for me in general.

The Big-Government Compassionate Conservatives running things are neither neocons nor moderates. In fact, I don't think anyone really knows what's with them or what they think they're doing, other than that they are in power and are using it without pity.
