What is the first music album you ever bought?

Hmm, I'm pretty sure it was

and
ok3za.jpg
shortly there after.

Those came out in 97, so I should have been about 10 at the time? Damn, both still hold up to this day!

It was probably a Beach Boy's Cassette Tape back around 1993 or 1994.

I was also a used, up until I was 11 or so all my albums were cheap cassette tapes bought at this kickass bookstore near my house.

I'm 21 so in theory I should have bought an album when I was younger but I missed the whole "paying for music bandwagon". Spotify is making me rethink that though.

Having a physical copy, reading the booklet, enjoying the artwork-- It was actually much better than downloading an mp3. Personally I've always had much greater satisfaction purchasing music in a music store than downloading anything from the net.

Got it back when I was... 12?
Heard Albuquerque at a friend's house, and I decided I needed to get it.

I never got into music proper until my parents bought me the best of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
My first real music purchase after that was-

Probably informed my tastes more than anything else I've ever purchased.

Oh god, the dreck I used to listen to. My first CD was bought in 4th grade which was when Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 came out. I bought a Sony Walkman for 50 bucks at a Walmart and then bought Millencollin's Pennybridge Pioneers because they were on the soundtrack of the game. I thought they were punk at the time...Absolute shit album. I think I'd cry if I had to listen to it now.

Big Willie Style. probably also the last one. i'm not big into music. i just listened to the ones my dad had/bought (old school rock) or radio. nowadays i stream stuff from the internet (grooveshark etc...) but that's rare.

Wow I suddenly feel extremely young and nerdy.

First album bought with kid birthday money, the day it came out:

First bought with real hard earned cash from my first ever paycheck:

This is embarrassing, especially after that Cash album, but keep in mind it was 1977.

I ordered it off TV and waited a painful 6-8 weeks for its delivery.
Track listing, since no one has probably ever even heard of this:

Sugar, Sugar - The Archies
Jam Up and Jelly Tight - Tommy Roe
Chewy Chewy - Ohio Express
Julie, Do Ya Love Me - Bobby Sherman
Hitchin' a Ride - Vanity Fare
Yummy, Yummy, Yummy - Ohio Express
Tracy - The Cuff Links
Indian Giver - 1910 Fruitgum Company
Daydream Believer - The Monkees
The Letter - The Boxtops

I Think We're Alone Now - Tommy James and the Shondells
Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' - Crazy Elephant
This Diamond Ring - Gary Lewis and the Playboys
Smile a Little Smile for Me - Flying Machine
Baby Now That I've Found You - The Foundations
Windy - The Association
Candida - Dawn
Brandy - Looking Glass
Me and You and a Dog Named Boo - Lobo
Happy Together - The Turtles

Simon Says - 1910 Fruitgum Company
I'm A Believer - The Monkees
Knock Three Times - Dawn
Dizzy - Tommy Roe
Green Tamborine - Lemon Pipers
Lightnin' Strikes - Lou Christie
My Baby Loves Lovin' - White Plains
Little Woman - Bobby Sherman
Beautiful Sunday - Daniel Boone
Little Willie - The Sweet Anonymous

Man, I loved "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo." The seventies have a lot to answer for. This purchase was followed by an album of trucking songs, and an album containing such greats as "Billy Don't be a Hero," "Kung-Fu Fighting," and "The Night Chicago Died."

I got in to music a little late since I mostly listened to whatever my parents were in to (hip hop and RnB) or whatever was on Mtv. Pretty much everything I wanted either my parents already owned or I could flip on Mtv and it would be on within 20 minutes.

First thing I got my parents to buy for me:
Busta Rhymes - Fire it Up / Turn it Up (Single)
mB5UE.jpg

I was a pretty big fan of Busta Rhymes and I was obsessed with the Knight Rider remix on this cd.

First thing I bought with my own money:
Prodigy - Fat of the Land

This was my electronica awakening. I used to come home from school flip on Mtv and just wait for Breathe to come on. Still love this album

MortalKombatOSTCD.jpg

The first CD/album I can remember buying myself was the soundtrack to the first Mortal Kombat film.

BillyJoelTheRiverOfDreams.jpg

As a bonus, the first tape I can remember buying was Billy Joel's River of Dreams single.

ReturnoftheMackSingle.jpg

The first time I bought a CD single was for Mark Morrison's Return of the Mack.

On LP. It came out in 1978, but I bought it in early 1983. I was 13. I had just gotten their brand new album Oh No It's Devo for xmas and after seeing an interview with them on Night Flight, I decided that I was going to base my life on their teachings. From then on all of my allowance was spent on their records until I owned them all.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. My dad had the LP that I used to listen to like crazy, but I finally got my first CD player when I was about 9 or so, and bought Sgt. Pepper w/ a gift certificate.
