What is this building, and why is Google Maps specifically blurring it out?

First tragedy, then farce.
Amazon world Headquarters, and its blurred so that you wont try to have your way with the building.

It's late so forgive me if you were being sarcastic or something, but that's the US Capitol building.

So they blur that out, but not the White House?

Actually, the roof of the White House & the adjacent buildings are painted out.

Don't know why the different treatments, though.

But how do you know it isn't doctored up?

Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't out to get you! :)

OMFG UR RITE! JESUS CHRIST IT'S ALL A SCAM...but how do I know you aren't trying to fuck me over by telling me this? Maybe it really is area 51, and the government's banking on its pawns--like you--to convince the nuts--like me--that area 51's been doctored when it really hasn't. The only way I can find out for sure is by infiltration. Godspeed, jackass. Pray we never cross paths in real life, mindless drone.

post the AREA51 co-ordinates and lets take a peek then.

Google yields:

1. Area 51, in the most literal sense, is a block of land 6 miles north-to-south by 10 miles east-to-west, bordered by the Nellis Bombing and Gunnery Range on the northwest, north, east, and south, and by the Nevada Test Site on the southwest. The designation, "Area 51," appears on the peripheral portion of Nevada Test Site maps in the 1950s and 1960s. Area 51 is bounded, approximately, by longitude 115š45' and 115š56', and latitude and 36š12.5 and 37š17.5'. (Actual boundaries are in the township/range system.)

So you can use: ?ll=37.25,-115.75
(approximately)

area 51 isn't blurred out because it's not being used for the same type of top-secret work it used to be. with all the publicity its gotten over the years, do you really think they'd have kept the same facility running? theres several more places in the area, most of which are completely hidden under mountains and hillsides, that are far more "secret" than area 51 is anymore.

and for the record, I already posted Area51 in the "post where you live on google maps!" thread.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Maybe there's just some policy where you're not allowed to take satallite images of the White House and/or other certain buildings at high resolution. That'd be my guess.

That's somebody's really cool Megagolopis.

Million Dollar Code, baby. I could just see a disaster happening. There'd be a large lizard terrorizing the city, bitmapping everything he stopmed on.

They won't need to until satellites get better at seeing underground!

That building is not blurred out. It's constructued entirely of large, painted, cubic blocks.
The US government is also the Lego corporation? :O

I saw some of those driving through Colorado and New Mexico. They're for farming, I think. Or secret alien bunkers.

I doubt that Google blurred them. They were probably blurred before being acquired.

"Well, guys, we were going to bomb the Capitol... but it turns out there's just some big blocks there. We're back to friggin' square one."

There are plenty of other locations which aren't blurred which would appear to be far more sensitive than the White House.

Probably something to do with the fact that the data seems to be collected from various different sources.

I think it's just that they don't want people knowing the configuration of the antenna(s) and missiles on the roof.

If those items are routinely visible, I don't see how you could keep ANYONE from knowing the exact equipment up there through means other than satellites. Further, I'm not convinced that there ARE any special items on the roof of the White House which you'd have to keep from visual inspection.

We've used satellite reconnaissance to try and find the trillion dollar bill, but all we've been able to ascertain is that it's not on the roof.

HUh how would knowing the configuration of the antennas and or missles make it easier to attack? Also if someone had the means to attack the US Capitol and or the White House wouldn't they also have the means to acquire Russian or European sattilite pictures, that probably aren't pixilated out.
