What is this building, and why is Google Maps specifically blurring it out?

HUh how would knowing the configuration of the antennas and or missles make it easier to attack? Also if someone had the means to attack the US Capitol and or the White House wouldn't they also have the means to acquire Russian or European sattilite pictures, that probably aren't pixilated out.
Not having that info available might help discourage your random psychotic nut jobs, like the guy who shot up some Capitol offices a few years back.

I haven't checked lately, but I remember Mapquest used to have very old, out of date, black and white satellite images pasted in to the Capitol and White House areas of the city.

Right. Any nation and probably any serious terrorist group can get access to satellite photos of those areas. I think what they're concerned about are the kind of nuts who would want to land a plane on the White House lawn and such. The Secret Service has a wide variety of things to worry about.

You'll notice that the bluring is not done on military installations. You can look at Norfolk or the Pentagon or Cheyenne Mountain, or even Area 51 as much as you want, because the military has been required to hide anything they really want to keep secret from the Russians for as long as they've had spy satellites and by now it's probably second nature. The Secret Service doesn't have that luxury. They can't hide the White House.

Well by nature nut jobs are not going to be deterred by anything, because they are nuts. You could put a force field around the White house and a loony toon will show up at 12 noon and try and dig under it. A loon isn't going to care if there are a hundred snipers on the roof or a tesla tower, he's going to some how come up with a reason to think that electricity doesn't affect him, or that he's bullet proof.

>>>Area 51 isn't blurred out. Take that, mentally ill conspiracy theorists!<<<

There was a Popular Science article about 10 or 11 years ago that said almost all perimeter security at "Area 51" had been removed, suggesting that it had been abandoned. They speculated on where sensitive projects, if any, might have been moved.
