The weight training won't do anything alone, definitely agree with the self defense. It did wonders for my brother who lives in a horrid area. He was pretty wimpy, but after martial arts, he will fuck you up. He doesn't weight train, it's more of an attitude he has, and a few "techniques" that he can pul out if and only if the situation calls. Basically if you fuck with him, he can instantly take your life.

please, tell me about these secret "techniques" that can instantly take a man's life
 
Those suggesting he gets a gun must be from the U.S. Things are quite different in Canada. I'm not even sure how/where or if you can get a concealed permit in Canada.

Carry a taser, pepper spray, a knife, anything that can protect yourself. Also, take a martial arts class. I recommend Jujitsu/Judo, as they are built around executing techniques no matter how big/small you are. And then look for a job in another town and get the hell out of Dodge.

You're better off doing some research than asking me. He only gives me bits and pieces, trust I've tried to get him to give me more info, but he's somewhat protected about the stuff he learns, and that is part of the attitude that a martial arts expert has. They don't flaunt their skill, they underplay it. He has the accolades to prove that he has passed the levels of training to perform certain arts, he kinda leaves it there.

I've never had issues past middle school, though. I'm not sure what I would do in the OP's situation.
 
yeah most people are still just barely smart enough to breathe and take a shit at the same time.
It's amazing how most people get a long so well for so long. We probably need eachother more than we'd like.
 
Sounds like you live in a pretty shitty place, dude, or you're just really unlucky. I live in a city of around ~550,000 (about 1 million in the metropolitan area), in a part of the city that's considered to be one of the less nice (although there are very few, if any, really bad neighborhoods in Sweden compared to in large American cities). I've lived here for 5½ years, and have never been the victim of (or even seen) a mugging. And I'm not a particularly beefy guy, I'm just averagely skinny.

I wish it was easy to gain weight for me, its rather difficult. I have a very fast metabolism.

Why is so many peoples first response to any threat to get a gun? I've been mugged twice and i put up a good fight but lost, i'm not going to fucking shoot someone for taking my ipod.
 
What you need to do is start with a frozen bag of milk (attached to a rope) to the assailants face, follow up with a second blow via tube sock filled with poutine. As he's reeling from the pain a final thrust of your curling broom should send the message that you're not to be fucked with.

Is what a myth? That different people have varying degrees of efficiency in their metabolism? Don't think so. I can eat all the unhealthy stuff I want without doing shit to counter it, and I still never gain any real weight. Maybe this will change later in life (I'm 27), but thus far I simply cannot get fat.

You almost certainly can with the right diet and exercise, but I feel like the suggestions of "Gain 50 pounds of muscle" seem a bit... short-sighted. It isn't like gaining that much muscle is a fast process.

I don't think anyone is insinuating murder -- just that a gun will deter all types of muggings period due to the threat itself. Getting robbed once in a large city is one thing, but as many times as the OP has, I'd definitely carry. That type of repetition is more likely to lead to him getting harmed, especially if it's the same people or area/group that knows he doesn't defend himself well.
 
Me thinks you're a target because of your small body frame and height. I suggested beefing up not particularly for self-defense (because even with the largest muscles and no technique you will still go down like a bag of bricks) but for intimidation factor and also as a deterrent. Couple that with some martial arts training for best effect.


Regardless you will probably still get targeted for walking alone, but anything to help your chances that idiots like that will leave you alone.
 
I thought Canada was paradise.

It is where I live. :P People are usually nice and there is no need to worry about guns or shit like that. No one walks around with them.

I thought i heard that Japan had a lot of depressed people. Because of the kind of life they have over there. Is it really that good of an idea to move there if that's the case?

All 3 of those items you listed are prohibited weapons in Canada. Unless he has Animal Pepper Spray, which is illegal to use on a human. As much as our law defines that you can respond with equal force being used against you, you're still not going to have an easy time in the legal system if you fight back.

You can have a high metabolism, but it won't offset everything you do. I had the same problem gaining weight and asked my Doctor about it. He had me write down everything I ate in a month and then come back to him if I still thought my metabolism was the reason I wasn't gaining weight. I didn't go back.

You'll be surprised to find out how often you skip a meal or eat too little. It sounds like you walk a lot and run when necessary. You also mentioned having a very physical job. You need to find out if your calorie intake is matching the amount of calories you're burning in a day.

well, it's more or less to same for me (as long as I don't regularly consume more than 2000 kcal a day anyway), but I was asking the same question in another thread and apparently metabolism has little to do with being thin or not

also, from a Cracked (yeah, I know) article:

Well, he's already in danger, and the more vulnerable he appears to his attackers, the more danger he's going to be in. Whether they're adults or teenagers, there are a lot of examples out there of people going too far.

You just have to be educated about weapons and give consideration to your situation. Sometimes all you have to do is show what you have on you in order to deter any future attempts, firearm or otherwise. If they still try something, then you'll be happy you did decide to have a weapon.
 
ii suspex we all translate things inour heads differntly mostlee based upon how we were raised i for example translate errything like video games which why i study math some peeps get beeten by day parents n shit so day mind corruptions.
 
I honestly doubt people who "eat a ton and don't get fat" eat 500 calories above maintenance on a daily basis. I'm proud of my performance at pizza buffets, but the truth is I simply -can't- eat as much as my heavier friends, lol. So my skinny-ness isn't really shocking.

Go to an all-you-can-eat place and try to eat as much as one of the heaviest eaters there. Again, you're most likely not eating a lot of calories above maintenance on a daily basis. I had Mexican food and cheesecake last night and I'm underweight, that doesn't mean a lot.
 
Jeez, that is awful! Is this like a sleepy town with not many people? You're stuck there, so I'd suggest going out with friends more often.

Do you walk with proper posture and confidently? Head up, eyes level with others, no slouching. I'm a thin dude, wear glasses, am asian, yet I never got picked on for some reason. Maybe a few racist calls, but no one ever tried to mess with me.
 
Yeah its your size and I say this as a short guy 5'7'' although I since I'm old, mid 30s and fat 170lbs I don't get messed with anymore. When I was younger and in college like you it was an issue, I weighed maybe 135/140 then and had toothpick arms.

I have a suggestion here and I have no idea if this would help but what about getting some shoes with lifts. You would be suprised I think of what maybe a couple of inches would do for you. I'd also suggest trying to do some working out, not so you can beat them up or anything but it will change the way you carry yourself if you feel fit/strong. Back when I lifted in my late 20s I know it changed the way I carried myself, my confidence.
