What is wrong with us who enjoy Call of Duty?

Hey I got a dub with my old COD buddy yesterday in Warzone. Seems we still got it :messenger_sunglasses:

I know COD took a hit for a 3 hour campaign and all, but honestly this game is vastly improved over MW2. Some things I noticed about MW3

1. Movement is back and is king. Even more so than 2019's (?) orignal warzone. The game is even faster. It's possible again to outplay multiple enemies.
2. The Armory system is amazing. You don't have to unlock weapons and attachments in order anymore. Pick what's right for your build, including perks, attachments weapons and just queue them up to be unlocked before other items.
3. Progression freedom. You like Multiplayer...do challenges in it to unlock stuff. Unlock guns and equipment just by extracting with it from Zombies. A nice touch.
4. Persistent customization. Attachments not working so well in your match? Change the loadout on the fly while waiting to respawn or in the practice time prior to a warzone match. It's more robust than in MW2.
5. The battlepass system (though a funnel to microtransactions) still allows you to unlock things in the order your prefer. Adds some agency and allows players to shoot for the important stuff. To me this means respecting your time.
6. They got rid of the tuning system in MW2 and added a tooltip that allows you to see how much different attachments affect the feel of your weapon by percentage to specific categories. No more questioning which attachment is better. You can literally prioritize based on actual numbers instead of trying to make a bar go up and down. Fantastic addition.

I haven't even played the campaign yet. I plan to, but I'm in it for Zombies and Warzone mainly. No it's not iterative on COD...but it does go back to better days and then doubles and triples down on it.

To answer OP's question. Nothing wrong with liking COD. COD is actually pretty damn good this year.

Nothing as long as you dont buy their skins and battlepasses and other predatory garbage. If you do, well then you're a fucking retard.

I played nearly 200 hours of MW2 2022. Never touched the campaign and by the end I was just playing shoot house, but it's fucking fun. This was after not playing CoD for years. It's one of those franchises where every few years I will get the itch to play it but I wouldn't buy it every year.

I've heard nothing but bad things about this year's game so I didn't buy it but people also said Mw2 sucked. Maybe I'll pick it up on sale.

We used to play the original COD in our office building at lunchtime. There was one CD that we would install on anyone's PC that wanted to join in on the game. It ran pretty good on just standard office PCs. We had our own voice chat system by using the inter office phone system. You got killed, the phone on your desk rang, you had to pick up and listen to the trash talk, that was the rules. Good times.

Nothing at all, play what you want and enjoy.
Get me drunk and I might give my real opinion of EA sports & COD players, but that's not gonna happen since I don't drink! My crippling super villain monologues however...

I don't play MP games and I've only played 1 CodD campaign I think it was the original Modern Warfare and didn't like that either, but a lot of people love CoD. I don't understand it just like I don't get the adoration for Sony games, I think they are boring as hell. But tons of people love them, and they sell like crazy so think it's just people have different tastes.

I mean, COD is still a tight shooter and nails the basics. We need something new and better to come along, instead we get Battlefield...

It is possible to enjoy something and still criticize it. The whole thing is stale, and then the last game was a slap in the face to the fans. I love the gunplay and enjoy the MP to a point, but I find that the games are starting to get muddled together and just the same. I want them to make something new. Take the series to new heights.

Play what you wan to play, I personally avoid games like COD like plague, just not type of crap I want to get in to.

Think of it like someone you know who's visiting the same overcrowded beach every year, despite the city being full of other places and beaches to explore and you're trying to show him around but he refuses. They love the atmosphere and it's familiar with minimal changes to the activities every year so that friend keeps coming back. That's Call of Duty basically.

But what if the surf is world class and you like dumping on kooks?

Cracks me up when people use predatory every time a game comes along with MTX in it. Just don't but that shit, or do then I get free maps all year.

Its not like COD's hiding in a bush ready to jump out and sexually assault you on your way home.

It cracks me up when idiots find ways to defend mtx's "bbbbbbut DoNt BuY it Then". Jesus fuck,

We used to play Call of Duty in school during classes and it was fun back in the day. I don't enjoy the latest iterations of the game. This slide cancelling and super strong auto aim on console nonsense ruins the game.

MTX have their place.

You might as well call all of retail and the advertising predatory. Its business.

Just play something else if you feel that vulnerable & upset by them.

No need for hostility btw.

How about instead explain how you think its "predatory". Its an online shop, with a few splash screens if you're on the free to play version advertising the product. I in no way feel violated by it and prefer it to the option of DLC map packs that split the community.

Have you seen the amount of content they churn out every 60 odd days..... for free????

Absolutely nothing. Best playing fps in existence. And ground war is by far the best imitation of large scale war in a game. Battlefield who?

I remember the first time I played the original call of duty, it was at a LAN party and everything about it just clicked with me.. everything about it felt perfect.
COD still has that basic underlying perfect feel.. just they have tacked on so much bullshit it's no longer fun to play.

You can still stick to gun play and enjoy the show...

What makes battle passes and skins predatory in your view?

I can agree all day long that some games employ predatory practices. In my opinion the major sports games do employ predatory practices, specifically the card packs. They advertise the best cards, but almost every transaction results in garbage pulls. Due to lack of competition and support for older titles, the biggest fans either stop playing the team building modes or fall back into the trap each year. Considering the draw sports have, it feels very much like they are preying on people's weaknesses to extract their money from them in my opinion.

But I fail to see any equivalence when a game shows you exactly what you are buying for your money in a battle pass or skin. There is no trickery. No leading you to believe you are getting something good when you are really getting trash tier items you never wanted. And indeed, while a game like COD includes blueprints that border on pay to win, the actual base guns are always free and unlocking attachments is as simple as playing the game. Anyone can max level a gun in COD in a relatively short time if you want to. At most, the blueprint might give you tracer ammo (which can be counterproductive at times) which you cannot unlock by playing.

Finally, I think it's exceptionally misguided to pretend everyone who spends money on this stuff if stupid. If you're cool with your N64 or PS2 games in 2024, I suppose I can see where you are coming from. But if you pay attention to what the biggest games cost to develop and how hit or miss success can be, I think you'd have to recognize that this stuff helps fund games that would not be financially feasible without it.

Most times.. although I had those purple tracers on a grau in 2019 and that was quite nice
Never run tracers, in warzone anyways.

On MTX I did buy the Bruce Willis skin back in the day, even had his lines out of die hard as well. Am I the Victim? Maybe one day i'll be down the station reliving that time I was violated by a predator.

Nothing, play what you like.
Its also popular to hate on COD.

Gunplay mechanics have always been exceptional.

We're the Madden with guns buyers of the industry and I'm not mad at it

But fuck modern warfare 3

I mean I LOVED Warzone.. but the gunplay is broken..
you'll sit there and put 2 entire clips into a dude and not miss at all and they will just run up and finish you with a single bullet.

I've been enjoying MWII recently after not playing it for it's entire life cycle until Season 6 (the final season) but I'll be the counter argument.

1. Movement is slower than MW 2019 and MWIII which provides a more tactical gameplay experience. Slower than every other CoD but faster than Insurgency Sandstorm.
2. The attachment unlock system requires you to to use different guns to unlock what you want which I find refreshing, in previous games I would never use other guns other than what I liked.
3. Certain guns were locked behind battlepass progression but now since the game is done every gun can be unlocked through challenges.
4. MWII features this. You can change attachments mid match.
5. The only good thing about MWII's battlepass was that you could choose to unlock tokens that you could spend on tiers that you wanted instead only being locked to one certain order of progression.
6. Play Hardcore and you'll never have this problem. But weapon tuning itself is actually really cool and allows for even further customization for your playstyle.
7. The guns actually feel authentic for once with a ton of recoil, smoke and heat effects, as well as top notch audio.
8. No slide cancelling. You have to be deliberate with sliding and sprinting because you'll get killed a lot if you're not. It makes more sense in this game to ADS while "pie-ing" a corner, just like you would with a real firearm.

Campaign was just alright, much worse than MW 2019.

All and all I love how slow paced and tactical it feels. I won't be moving on with CoD for the foreseeable future until they actually make something impressive again.

Thats just a bad server. Happens sometimes and the other way round too. The longer TTK does exasserbate the issue some what.

Man I loved MW2's campaign. You thought it was just ok huh? Did they have loadout customization in Warzone in MW2? I know they had it in Multiplayer. I suppose the movement is a subjective thing. I like having the option to move deliberately or more agile. I utilize both in MW3 warzone. I'm a fan of slide cancelling. Maybe because I play on M&KB...I dunno. I'm sure controller players utilize it probably better than I do.

I don't remember being able to unlock whatever guns or attachments you want unless you met certain requirements in MW2. In MW3 everything is tied to challenges of ANY KIND. You can queue up attachments, equipment, killstreaks, perks and guns in whatever order you want. One session is Zombies spamming missions for 45 minutes could have you unlocking more than 10 things you want. If I'm not mistaken you have weapon progression in MW2 only. Mind you that weapon progression system still exists in MW3. But it's in addition to the Armory system. Overall improvement in my opinion.

I don't play hardcore. I feel like it promotes camping. I hate campers. Weapon tuning was interesting but to me but overall was too tedious. I like MW3's way of providing exact information way more.

Are you playing on high ping? Hit reg has been mostly alright for me
