what jrpg are you playing right now ?

Re-bought FFXIII-2 after hating how I had to force myself through FFXIII and gave up on FFXIII-2 the first time around an hour in because of the stupid story. Plowed through and beat it last night. Love the gameplay, hate the story. Nothings really changed. Deciding if I want to dig deeper and try to platinum it, but at this point I think that would be more a badge of shame than anything.

Will probably start up Totori Plus on Vita later, and would like to pick up either Tales of Xillia or Graces F on the console side sometime this week. Haven't played a Tales game since Vesperia and miss the action-oriented battle system of Tales games.

Taper your expectations then, friend >_>

I have not played Xillia yet, but I can tell you that it's from the same team that made Vesperia and Abyss.
So far so good. Combat is much more fluid then Vesperia and Abyss. Too early to tell if it will top Graces.

So, I've got 50+ hours on Ni-no-Kuni and I've finally hit a moment in the game where something actually happened. I will say that part of the game has come around for me. I just witnessed the game's major plot twist reveal (although I saw it coming, somewhat) and it was cool. I always liked the soul mate angle in this game, but I still feel like the world/narrative has more potential. I definitely don't dislike the game as much as I used to, but it's still got some major issues, especially in the combat department.

There's just a lot of weird small things towards the end of the game that are disappointing too. Two of the final towns in the game don't have unique music and there are far less anime/voiced sequences towards the middle/end as well. Also, the dungeons, or "dangerous places", are really a let down too. The use of your spells to manipulate your surroundings/solve puzzles were both underused and uninteresting. Christ, the "final" dungeon had some of the most amateurish, RPG Maker-like ideas. Checking crystals to make staircases appear? 0_0

Ni-no-Kuni's a neat game, but it's such a letdown on so many levels. I'd love to see a do-over for this game, hah!

Just finished my first playthrough of Xillia. Had lots of fun. Will start Ni no Kuni now and then play Xillia a second time. After that I have to start KH HD I guess. Good times to be a jrpg fan.

Since I don't gots no new games ta play an my backlogs full of stuff I pretty much can't beat I went back to Phantasy Star Portable 2. Never left it exactly but its back full time in my PSP disc drive for the time being.

But recently I've been super considering replaying Dragon Quest VIII for the first time! I only beat it once~ 6 years ago to the day no less. I can still remember a buncha things about it but I'm sure theres a ton I forgot! An since it was my first DQ an thanks to the DS releases I am more familiar with the series there should be some neat things I'll pick up on that I didn't think anything of before. Sooo is this a good idea?

I just finished Dream Team and I don't know if I want to play SMTIV or FFIX next. I'm really pumped for FFX HD but that got pushed back to 2014 and I've got that FF itch. On the other hand I loved Persona 4 and thought Strange Journey was pretty good, though by the end I was just playing it to beat it.

What to play, what to play...

Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. (DS)

This is my first roguelike and I'm digging it a lot.

Good place to start. It's probably one of the best modern Roguelikes around.

For me, I'm wrapping up my third playthrough of DS Overclocked. Tried twice to take on Lucifer, but I don't think it's gonna happen this time around. After this, just Naoya and Amane's paths left.

I just started Persona 4 Golden on Monday, about 4 or 5 hours in and just wound up at Yukiko's Castle. Damn this game is so fresh and amazing, I'm starting to actually like the characters like I would a new friend - very rare in any game!

Also, dat intro. I CAN NOT skip it, no matter how many times I boot the game up, it's just too fucking good.

I'm 50 hours into Pokemon Crystal and have beaten the Elite Four a couple of times now to earn enough money to buy the game coins needed to teach certain TMs at Goldenrod City's game corner (just taught Typhlosion Fire Blast). I recently got the missing power plant item in Cerulean City and defeated Misty. Now I'm on my way to get the ticket to use the Magnet Train.

Golden Sun 2, after beating the first. I overlooked them for too long. These games reminded me why I used to like that genre. Fuck off nowadays jRPGs!

Etrian Odyssey IV. Oh, and "Mario and Luigi Dream Team". Waiting for SMT4 to be released in Europe. So, yeah, full 3DS these days.

Phantasy Star

I was trying to choose between playing the original or the generation 1 remake, but I've read that they butchered the soundtrack.

I've got the 2 sidekicks so far and around level 15, exploring this 4-level dungeon with paper and pen mapping it out. It takes me back to when I played Metroid. Good times ahead, and looking forward to finding Noah(Lutz in Japanese version).

Finished up playing through Earthbound again on the WiiU VC recently (beaten it plenty of times before on my SNES, but, the gamepad play is great).

Next one I'll play is probably either Lufia on SNES (again, beaten plenty of times, but I love it) or Breath of Fire 2 on the WiiU VC (have it for SNES and have for a while, but never got around to beating it. Again, love playing on the WiiU gamepad)

FFXIV.

Stopped my Xillia 1 playthrough.
Stopped my Etrian Odyssey IV run halfway through.
Preventing me from starting SMTIV and Soul Hackers which I got from 3DS promos weeks ago.

God damn MMO's...

Is that Lufia II? How is it? I'm trying too choose between playing that next or Seiken Densetsu III.

Well, just recently started playing Digital Devil Saga, and Totori Plus. Man DDS, loving that SMT feel so far. Also a few hours into Xenosaga Episode 1, it's a pretty good movie so far. Also into the third week of Fate/Extra.
I'll probably finish them in a year, or so...

Sorry, should have specified, planning to play through Lufia 1 again.
Both 1 and 2 are for SNES though.

Anyway, Lufia 1 and 2 are my 3rd and 4th favorite games ever, and are both absolutely amazing games.
Lufia 2 comes before Lufia 1 in story order, but I would recommend playing 1 before 2. Still, most people will say that 2 is the better game, so that works too.

Either way, Lufia 2 is an absolutely amazing game, and definitely a must-play.

Bought Tales of Graces f on PSN and so far really like it. I shelved Ni no Kuni because I got bored 20 hours in. Also got a bit grindy with the pokemon aspect.

Tales battle system is the complete opposite of NNK, as it is fast and fluid.

I dropped any/every game and jrpg for KH1.5 HD

However, now that GTA V is out, I'm swapping between the two.

I feel like I can only play KH in small doses. I never got through the Little Mermaid island back on PS2, and right now I am still in Traverse Town. What is a good way to make my experience more fun?

So, anyone recommend me any tips/heads up or things I should not worry about? I'm not trying to use guides to spoil anything. I also, don't want to read the KH1.5 HD thread, because it's filled with spoilers (sort of). I went w the staff, dropped the sword, and ventured at night bc of that thread (that's not spoiler but I'm afraid to read beyond that)

I've just finished SMTIV and Tales of Graces f.

Now I'm trying to finish Xenosaga and Tales of Xillia by the end of the month since class starts, ha. I also have a backlog that includes .hack//GU, Lost Odyssey, Magna Carta 2, and a few others. All those years of not playing my games are really kicking my butt :(

I finished Xillia 2 weeks ago, but I just came back to it recently for the post-game stuff. I think it's my favorite Tales after Symphonia.

started persona 3 yesterday( this is my first persona game) and played for about 50 minutes and I didn't like it much at all. Good music, a few good cutscenes. but dislike the voice acting , the shit going on in the high school isn't grabbing me and the loading times are annoying. Also I've fought a total of one battle so far, this is taking forever to really get started it seems.
edit-started it up again yay nothing but more talking for 10 minutes, come on I just want to fight some monsters or something already

i love my psp for playing jrpgs i missed from previous generations. i finished final fantasy 5 (though i wouldnt actually recommend the psp version for that) a while ago and i am now playing xenogears. both are great. ff5 is one of the best games in that series, for my money. and i love xenogears so far, i would say im probably 12 hours in.

currently playing that and smt4. latter isn't hard at all.

I just finished Xillia...it was terrible, I'm going back to Etrian Odyssey 4 and doing post game stuff.

Graces has the best gameplay in any Tales game, I loved to play in harder difficulties and just mess around with the battle system for hours and hours... everything else is bad, the story is every worse than Xillia's and the characters are boring even if I love Pascal.

I hated NNK too. Very boring game.

nnk isn't for everybody.

I really liked it because of its old traditional jrpg formula.

massive overworld, superb ost, great dialogue and characters. Tales is the closest animu jrpg that i'll play. Almost everything made by aksys or gust I won't touch at all....too much fanservice.

Try playing on the hardest difficulty you can in Graces F as you get more SP to build up your titles that way. As for titles you should generally try to get rank 5 in a bunch of titles before trying to master them.
