Yeah, Vesperia is definitely the strongest of the 3. As for the remaining 2, I feel Graces has the edge in the battle system, while I prefer the Xilia characters so far.
I've been playing Xilia some. It's a pretty decent tales game so far. The characters so far haven't gotten on my nerves the way they did in Graces, but it still sticks to the typical Tales formula. Battle system feels like a small step back and I don't like the removing of most alternate costumes and selling them as dlc. Removes some of the motivation for getting titles and completing side quests.
I've also been playing Shin Megami Tensei IV. Great Demon design and collecting/fusing with a compelling negotiation element added in battles. Interesting sci-fi fantasy horror type story so far, but bland characters. Pretty much inline with the reviews I've seen.
I'd like to finish Radiant Historia but a set it down for too long and can't remember what I need to do or what was going on. May need to consult a guide
I just finished Final Fantasy V on my iphone... it had been more than a decade since I had beaten it. I really enjoyed this version despite the weird character sprites. Also liked the bonus content. Now I'm going to go backwards and start playing FFIV iphone.
I really enjoy Graces F. The battle system is fun and the story, while predictable, is entertaining. I also like the English VA. I am juggling that, Xillia, Fire Emblem Awakening, and SMTIV at the moment
I really disliked Vesperia but loved Graces. Vesperia's story and characters really grated on me somehow.
Anyways, I'm on Xenogears right now and about 18 hours in, I never got to play it before.
So far I'm not quite sure why this game is so loved to be honest. The combat system is pretty cool at first glance, but it wears itself out after 15 hours or so and there's no need to think tactically, even during boss fights it seems.
The characters seem to talk in quite an odd way and that's mostly because it feels like the translation was done in a very stiff way. I've heard enough Japanese to sorta be able to tell what they translated it from and it feels like it lost some personality along the way.
The drama in the game also feels kind of silly a lot of the time, with Fei having a bit of Squall syndrome (FF8).
I keep waiting for things to pick up, but so far it doesn't seem to. There should be plenty more to it though, so I'll see how it goes.
In my eyes ToG>ToV>ToX. I would start from worst if you plan to play all, if you wanna have fun, start from ToG. ToG has meh story, but it's really fun to play, because it has best gameplay in Tales series.
Finally beat Soul Hackers, what an awesome game...
Loved:
-90's cyberpunk setting
-some of the characters, especially Six, Lunch and Spooky
-some of the dungeons had great design - sprawling (although logically designed) and filled with puzzles without being too obnoxious. Nice variety too, you'll have a few longer dungeons buffered by a few quick and painless dungeons.
-lots of different systems with respect to demon collection - party alignment, demon personalities
-Save Anywhere module
Didn't Like:
-2 of the dungeons
the Monolith and Haunted House
were frustrating to traverse through
-demons not obeying your commands
-lots of the dungeons you could just make it through with the hero, Nemissa and a single demon. The constantly-draining Magnetite system discouraged me from trying out new demon combinations.
-volume was EXTREMELY low, making it hard to hear voices and BGM
-slight clunkiness in the movement and menu traversal
So that makes #5 of the SMT series that I've beaten... so far I've done DDS1 and 2, Persona 3 and 4, and now this... what shall be next?
Final Fantasy IX, although I've held it off a bit for GTA V. I heard complaints about the battle system, but I see nothing wrong with it. Probably the best PS1 game I've played.
Well, I managed to Platinum Xillia. Getting over 7000 grade in my first playthrough really helped in the second run. It was almost too easy, kinda boring. I cannot overstate how much one should play as Jude first-time through, though. Milla's playthrough just seems incomplete rather than an alternative, like say Rena's in Star Ocean 2.
I also picked up Star Ocean 4 again, and am enjoying it a lot provided I skip every cutscene. I made the mistake of watching a couple and it killed my ability to play. I really think that game has the worst cast of any JRPG I have ever seen. I figured seeing as I'm working towards Platinum 33 now, if I start grinding now and persist periodically for the next 3-4 years or so, SO4 might end up being Platinum 100, and I will officially have to be locked away for insanity.
So, JRPG-wise I think its back to playing P4G now, I guess! I put it down during Void Quest. I've been having too much fun with Soul Sacrifice and Gravity Rush at the moment, though, so I might have a JRPG hiatus.

Twilight Princess. Old me would have kicked my ass for calling it a JRPG, but lately I keep trying to get into menu-driven rpgs and they're just not clicking like they used to. Picked this up and it's giving me exactly the feel I want from jrpgs but don't seem to get lately.
But damn, this game is long. I'm 30-40 hours in and only at the water temple.
I started the EOIV demo and got hooked immediately. I have the first game in my library but never bothered to fire it up. I'm obviously going back as soon as I can find the time. Hopefully Millenium Girl will find its way to Europe.
I'm also planning to get a PS3 soon which would enable me to finally get into KH with 1.5 and start that KH challenge (= playing through the series this year).
I played Tales of the Abyss a couple of years ago (first Tales of game) and didn't get far because of the battle system. I'm not sure if it's bc the game felt too "last gen" to me, but how is Tales of Graces f compared to it battle system wise? I guess it's hard to answer since likable battle system can vary per player. I played Star Ocean: First Departure (PSP) and enjoyed the battle system, if that helps. In that game, I stopped bc the grind was ridiculous after reaching a certain point in the game, I mean ridiculous. Current monsters gave too little exp, while the next higher level monsters pwnt me.
Final Fantasy IX, although I've held it off a bit for GTA V. I heard complaints about the battle system, but I see nothing wrong with it. Probably the best PS1 game I've played.
I've been playing the Etrian Odyssey Millennium Girl demo. I've never played an EO game before, but I'm pretty into this. Love the mapmaking, and I love any game that gives me lots of quests. Should I buy the new one, or is it better to start with IV for the 3ds or an earlier one for the ds?
Playing Ar Tonelico, randomly streaming it as well. Its "ok" so far. Only playing it since I picked up the PS3 game for $20 off the NIS website, played 5mins of that and decided to at least attempt to play the other 2 games. Don't really mind anything about it yet, at the same time nothing is blowing me away. Its decently funny in the innuendo and I can see myself having no issue slogging through it to the end... just nothing is drawing me to it to beat it asap.
Just recently finished Atelier Totori Plus on Vita. Playing Aterlier Meruru Plus now and it's pretty good. Overall quite a bit more polished than Totori+ and the systems seem better explained. Really like the kingdom building aspect too.
I'm playing this RPG called Oriental Blue: Ao no Tengai. The battle system pretty old school. I liked the setting because very few RPGs have an Eastern Asia theme.
Everyone else had trouble with Minotaur, lol. Medusa is kinda tough. Matador in Nocturne wasn't that tough though.
The beginning of the game is fine in difficulty, leaning more on the tougher side, but it gets too easy later. You can spam Megido with your MC later and that's good enough for pretty much any mob.

Ragnarok Odyssey has been completed though I still have expert missions left (extra missions). Huge progress has been made on Xenogears, I made it to the second disc. Things are going at a fast pace. Less progress has been made on Soul Sacrifice but I am currently doing chapter VI of Avalon Pacts and have the last story chapter left.
I was hoping to start on Etrian Odyssey IV and continuing with the demo save asap, but now I'm thinking of completing Xenogears first as there isn't much left. Also I have an old save file left of FFVI GBA, it's near the end of the game and somehow I left it like that for years. Xenogears is making me curious about Xenosaga II (we never got I or III in EU), the most hated Xenosaga and the shortest one. I've played 10 hours of it a long time ago (as in years). I'm thinking of starting that one from scratch for the story and seeing if it's truly that bad. Those are the jrpgs I'm thinking to play next.

I'm no EO expert (having only played IV demo and read up about the rest), but apparently EOMG is the perfect start for new EO players as it's a remake of the first one and it's less demanding than previous games. EOIV was also good for new comers before this one got released. I also heard the third one being loved a lot as well. The first and second ones are apparently more outdated and only worth a buy if you're not burnt out on EO games. So the order would be:
1. MG
2. IV
if you haven't had enough
3. III
if you're crazy about EO and want more:
4. II
5. I
Just started playing Legend of Dragoon on my PSP. I only play it at work though during down-time, but it's...not as good as I remember lol. I'm going to keep going and see if it picks up. The last time I played was a very long time ago when I was a kid, so my forethought prior to playing was higher expectations.
Playing KH 1.5 and Atelier Totori Plus right now. Will probably get through 1.5 by this weekend, but I'm not really enthralled with Totori. Not like I expected some sort of mind blowing experience but it's not really pulling me in with anything either except some of the character designs (although the dialogue from them is enough to even make this point null).
Also finished Xillia recently, didn't leave too much of an impression on me like the other Tales games did, and I don't really feel compelled to go back and do any of the few postgame things there are to do (and I'm sure as fuck never going for the Platinum trophy).
After 45 hours of Growlanser IV behind, the game just keeps on going and amazingly enough has still not outstayed its welcome. I haven't been this addicted to a JRPG since Persona 4.
