How does Lunar 2 compare to the first game? Better? Equal? Worse?
It won't. It's a "nice effort on your first try game", but it won't hook you.started I am Setsuna. it's ok, hasn't really hooked me yet tho
Absolute truth, man.
This, the first wretched spawn of Final Fantasy 8's interface, is created by people from the anal-retentive school of RPGing. Not only do you "get" to micromanage every aspect of your weapons and armor, but the damn things actually change on you the more you use them. I remember the days when a sword made of ice beat a creature that was on fire, and shooting a fish with lightning would kill it faster than just hacking at it. Now I have to worry about the weapon's "affinity", and since different weapons have largely different effects on different enemies, I can only assume Square wants me to re-equip every time I fight a new enemy. If they seriously think I'm going to do that then they're as crazy as the critics who gave this piece of shit 9's and 10's.
Nothing makes me feel more inadequate than managing to pull off a three hit combo that takes a devastating 8 HP from my opponent. Politely asking the monster to run into a wall would cause more damage. I play these games at least partly for escapism, and I don't want to be reminded that I'm barely strong enough to lift my Playstation controller.
For extra fun and detail the game includes a "risk" meter, which apparently measures how drunk off his ass your character is. Once the risk number gets above five he can't hit the broad side of a behemoth (and even if he did, it probably wouldn't do any damage).
And then there's the gorgeous weapon system. It's set up so that your weapon gets more powerful the more you use it, and when you get a new weapon it's a complete piece of shit. So what happens is you keep your old weapon that you have some experience with and just leave all the new weapons you find in your backpack or your ass, wherever you're keeping them. This system is taken directly from Secret of Evermore, which was developed by Square of America. When the real Square developers start ripping off the team that was started as a cruel Japanese joke, we're all surely fucked.
The fact that the characters can move their mouths only accentuates the fact that absolutely nothing is coming out. The result is a mime show with word balloons.

It's no Chrono Trigger, but it is a good game. You can tell it's a budget title, but the gameplay is fun and the unified aesthetic and music works well for the game. Way, way better than Square's other budget release this year, Star Ocean 5. It's worth playing through for sure.Man, after reading many impressions on I am Setsuna on this thread, I'm kind of glad SE didn't bring over the Vita version or gave the PS4 one a reasonable price. It sounds super unremarkable, and in a genre like this I really don't have time for stuff below "good".
As for me I've been playing Darkest Dungeon on Vita/PS4. It's not really japanese but it's turn based and has great combat, it's secretly one of the best games released this year IMO.
I've played a bit of Dragon Ball Fusions on 3DS as well and it's pretty good! Combat is DBZ crazy but a bit too easy for my taste.
Just finished FFXV, still have few end game things to do but I think I mostly done with it until DLC comes out.
Thinking about giving the XIII series a playthrough. I only played through the first one and that was back when it first came out. Is it worth playing?
No. XIII gets all of the hate it does for a reason. I kept hearing "it gets better". It doesnt
"It gets better after the 20 hour mark" was what I kept getting.
Bought FFXIV Online (steam) and FFXV Deluxe Edition (ps4). Will start tomorrow though (since my finals will end tomorrow). I also have to finish WoFF (vita) and DQ7 (3ds) after which I'm planning to start Trails in the Sky SC.
I keep reading about Xenoblade X in this thread and I desperately want to love this game. I'm not a JRPG noob, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to progress in this game. It wants me to survey 15% of the map and I just can't figure it out.
I've tried putting up as many probes as I can, but now I can't find any areas with beacons or at least none where I don't get killed by enemies way above my level.
I don't fully understand the quest mechanics. Should I just go back to town and talk to every possible NPC? Will I get a quest marker on the map, and will clearing the quest improve my survey rate?
Someone please help. I want to love this game.
The game sometimes expects you to just sprint past enemies that will squish you, so that's really all there is to it. You'll even get some mainline quests that ask you to kill enemies that are your level, but surrounded by dudes that will one shot you, etc (because that's good game design? I honestly have nfi what they were thinking).
You can probably tell I wasn't a huge fan of the 100 hours I put into that game to finish the story![]()
Xenoblade, finally.
It is very, very, very good.
Trying to decide which of the following to play next:
Vagrant Story - best game ever, too bad the gameplay was apparently too complicated for most people. Also boxes..looots of boxes..for no apparent reason whatsoever.
Soul Blazer - not as good as Terranigma, but close
Lunar 2 - haven't played that one yet
Xenosaga Episode I - I loved the entire Saga..but It's easy to see why others don't
Skies of Arcadia Legends - Loved it on the DC, seeing as this is supposedly even better, a must play.
Crisis Core - meh
VS and Xenosaga Ep 1 both have pretty great stories, but really obtuse game mechanics that aren't really that fun even when you understand them.
.
? Both are a ton of fun if you 'get' them
Maybe. I completed Xenosaga Ep 1 last month and felt mostly frustrated once I got it because of how limited Skill Points and Currency are in the game.
End game was mostly just me spamming X-Buster every encounter lol
As for VS it's been ages since I've played, but the amount of times I remember having to go in and out of menus keeps me from wanting to revisit it.
