what jrpg are you playing right now ?

Finished Ys book 1, going through book 2 now and loving it. This series is so good. I cant believe i missed it for so long.
Oath next, i heard its good.

Also the music... so good.

I'm on holiday at the moment so I haven't been able to get any further into ffxv, but I'm up to chapter 7-ish. I have been plugging away at DQVII. I'm nearly fifty hours in and while I love dq, the self contained vignette style narratives of VII can be a source of fatigue especially when I'm showing up to another identical village to find out who poisoned the well, stole a precious item, is bewitching the villagers for the umpteenth time.

Once I've finished up with those two I'll probably jump into #FE.

Got me a copy of Breath of Fire 1 as an Xmas gift. Weird Ive never got around to playing this one as Ive played all the others except dragon quarter. ( thats what its called right?) Anyways its pretty simple but I enjoy it so far.

Trails in the Sky SC. I swear this game is gonna ruin me for other, inferior RPGs. What a mix of gameplay/story. Amazing. Difficulty's also a step up from the first game which is nice.

Playing Atelier & Escha Logy Plus. Finished Logy's story first and planning to finish one more run with Escha as my main. Hopefully able to get Shallie Plus next once I have funds for it.

Started Fire Emblem Awakening -it counts right?- Enjoying it so far but only on chapter 5. Not a fan of the single word/phrase voices at the start of each characters sentences though.

Played a bit of Wild Arms 3 as well. Made it to the second dungon. Want to keep playing but think I will roll into Grandia 2 instead since I'm 9 hours into that and craving a old school RPG.

Nayuta (something or other) recent translation project on the PSP. Game is stunning. Probably the best looking game I've seen on the PSP to date. Amazing soundtrack too. Translation is top notch also.

Started Bravely Second recently and it's been pretty good. Soundtrack is a massive step down and the story doesn't pick up yet, but gameplay is (predictably) ace, character interactions are amusing as always and the game's humor is pretty good, the wizard and the charioteer couple were great.

I like how the villain doesn't even try not to sound like Liquid Snake too lmao, can the VA even make a different voice? Not that I'm complaining.

I recently got a full party and current have four jobs. I just hope I don't get bored of the soundtrack too quickly because I enjoy the combat a lot.

I don't know why but I've been jumping around like crazy.

After (finally) finishing Suikoden 1, I took a break to play Wild Arms for the first time. Put in a few hours before deciding to start Suikoden 2. Put a few hours into that and... well, it just didn't grab me.

Ended up impulse-buying Dark Cloud 2 on Ps4 during a sale and that was pretty cool for a few hours and then I ended up getting side-tracked by the release of Final Fantasy XV. I rented FFXV for a week and saw it through to completion.

So that makes 3 JRPGs in-progress. That's ignoring Tales of Hearts R, which I put a few hours into earlier last year. I played some non-RPG games for awhile.

Then, instead of returning to any of those, I started Tokyo Mirage Sessions last night. I'm really digging it so far and I'm actually about to start up another session. Might carry that one through to the end.

For some stupid reason I just started a game of MegaMan Battle Network 3, my first foray into the series. I'm really impressed with the combat system, it's pretty cool.

I guess I'll go back to all the other games I started eventually, but I gotta say that Suikoden 2 is not living up to the hype so far. I say that based on the fact that I found Suikoden 1 to be a fairly mundane JRPG and this just seems like more of the same.

Suikoden 2 is a bit of a slow-burn early on compared to Suikoden 1. It takes a good while for the main story arc to begin - probably about 5 hours, maybe as many as 7. Really doesn't help that the most tedious dungeon in the game is pretty early and your party is forced for it.

Not everyone is bound to enjoy it, and I know that's a long time to invest if you're not sure whether you will.

It's pretty much more of the same, yeah. What sets it apart is that you have 100 characters and it's about war and a bit more mature than other RPGs. I wouldn't say it's worth playing for the story or for the gameplay; I would say it's worth playing because it's fun to build up your own army. I was actually more interested in 1's story and 2 is even easier than 1.

Now my turn. How long do I have to play Shadow Hearts before it starts to get great? I played it for 3 hours. It seems fine, but nothing that special. The battles are slow. Slow battles in a RPG kill me. Battle system seems rudimentary. The characters thus far are this mysterious guy and that mysterious girl. The opening movie was really interesting but the setting has felt typical ordinary RPG in these 3 hours.

Been playing Shin Megami Tensei on the pc engine super cd-rom.

Great game but the pc engine has some lag here and there but gosh that PSG music is addictive as it has that dungeon Explorer and magical chase sound fonts.

Had a 3 day weekend due to MLK, so I put in some time into Exist Archive. Beat the game and got 2 endings, then did the bonus dungeon.

Have to do New Game + to get the other ending. My characters are at level 119 or so so that should go by really quickly if I rush it. Will probably do that this weekend and finally finish up the Pithioss Ruins in FFXV, in essence finishing that game up for me too.

Just "finished" World of Final Fantasy

So when hauyn says not to fight the two knights who end up being your parents, is there a better ending if you lose to them? I got the rewind thing, but I am not sure what I have to do to complete the postscript

For my next RPG before P5 comes, I am trying to decide between FFXV or Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

I just beat DQ Builders and Parasite Eve. Leaning toward finally beating either Baten Kaitos or diving into Xenosaga for the first time.

But then I look at Suikoden 3 and think... maybe it's time.

Then Skies of Arcadia Legends reminds me it exists and I haven't played it despite having been recommended it probably more than any other game.

What is my life?

I suppose Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright counts, yes? I've been very slowly making my way through that game for almost the year it's come out. Usually playing through a few battles in a night and then setting it down for several months before jumping back into it some other arbitrary night.

Some FF15 and DQ7 (3DS) here and there. 7 is one of my favorites but having finished it twice on PS1 over the years, including both bonus dungeons, I'm ready to move onto 8 ASAP since I barely remember my original play through now.

Oath next, i heard its good.

Oath is one of the GOAT action games - It narrowly contends with God of War II for my favorite action game. The mooks are nothing to write home about, but the boss battles are just fantastic, and dynamic, depending on the difficulty you choose, both very rare and handled wonderfully here. And of course, the soundtrack is bitchin'.

Final Fantasy VII, first time. Just finished Disc 1.

This is my favorite in the series thus far (4-7 are all that I've played).

Geez...I've got so many JRPGs I've got active games going in, I don't know where to start.

Me and my roommate are finishing up an FF VIII game (just got the airship and are grinding the Islands Closest to Heaven/Hell). Then, we're going to continue a Xenogears game we were playing, and start a FF IX game.

My girlfriend and I are almost finished with FFX.

I was playing a solo game of Grandia PS1 and Xenoblade Wii...I will resume those once FF VIII and FFX are done.

JRPGs <3

I look at this post from 2 months ago, and I laugh.

I finished that FFVIII game, but still haven't finished the FFX game, the Grandia game, the Xenogears game or the Xenoblade game I was playing. I did just finish Super Paper Mario (that's an RPG, right), though. I foolishly just bought the DS Golden Sun game too...

About 4 years into the future from these posts, and I beat Golden Sun DS, FFVIII and FFX.

That Grandia game, the Xenoblade game and the Xenogears game are stalled...started my yearly FFVII game on PS4, resumed a FFIV DS game, and am playing FFXV on PS4. I've also got an ongoing Secret of Mana SNES and a Bravely Default 3DS game going. Let's see what happens a year or two from now, lol.

I would say this counts. This is the game I'm currently playing too. I'm most of the way through it and having a great time. I've never played another FE game before, so I don't really have much reference when compared to other FE games, but I'm enjoying it

I recently started the original Nier on 360 in anticipation of Automata. Currently about 3.5 hours on and really enjoying it so far. It's definitely got some early 360 jank but that's how you know it's good, right? It seems like the perfect example of the game that got nothing but (not undeserved) 7s but isa much better game than that number would suggest.

Back on the FFXIV wagon thanks to patch 3.5.

Also trying to finish my playthrough of Grandia which I bought like a year ago and I'm only just now getting to the first dungeon.

Currently playing through FF XV, but have a hard time progressing. I always get stuck wanting to finish the side quests due to the OCD in me. I LOVE the game though.

I'm also playing DQ VII sporadically as well. Great game, but we'll see if I put it on hold when DQ VIII releases later this week.

I started P3 Fez a while ago in anticipation of P5 (was also going to move into P4G after finishing 3), but that got put on hold and I haven't come back to it yet. Id like to but with all the games coming up in the next little while and with the current games on the go, I doubt Ill finish them before P5 hits.

So many games coming out in such a short amount of time before P5! HK 2.8, DQ VIII, Tales of Berseria, Nioh, Ys Origin PS4, Nier: Automata and of course Zelda BotW (not strictly an RPG mind you). That's just jrpg's too, lots of other non jrpg games coming up as well. Should have no shortage of stuff to play through the Summer.

Playing Terranigma, with a bit of SOM2, but I'll probably move to my PS4 rpgs after. This thread should be interesting to read and I hope to find out about a few jrpgs I've never seen before.

Been playing Trails in the sky, not really feeling it though it's early days and I'll be away at the weekend so it's all I'll have to play.

My main problem with it at the moment is how much time is devoted to characters giving each other pleasantries. If they're not being super duper nice to each other they're arguing about class in a very contrived way.

Does Xenogears have a 2 player option? If so, I'll happily play with my girlfriend. We are playing Final Fantasy IX now. She played it before, I did not. I have to say that for now the early game is not so good, it is a slow start.

When I am home I am playing World of Final Fantasy, and I am loving it. I love monster collecting RPGs.

And when I am on commute I am playing Ray Gigant on Vita. I am almost finishing it, but I will probably drop it as soon as Dragon Quest VIII releases (Ray Gigant is not so good, I have been pushing myself with it).

Bouncing between too many DS RPGs that I missed. Also have Mystery of the Emblem going and Tactics Ogre and 776 to play. And Nocturne.

Right now hoping either Strange Journey or Radiant Historia sticks and I settle on one.

Started ff15, meh, not really digging it. Couple hours into ff7 and started ff6(again).

Anyone else just not into ff15?

I didn't care for it. I stopped in the middle of my playthrough and have no desire to go back to it.

I finished up DQVII over the holidays, so I'm thinking of picking up DQVIII on 3DS while I patiently await for Persona 5 release.

Final Fantasy VII, first time. Just finished Disc 1.

This is my favorite in the series thus far (4-7 are all that I've played).

Disc 2 is also amazing. Disc 3 is super short, just FYI. You are about halfway right now.

Go ahead and play VIII, don't let its black sheeo status disuade you. I love that game.

Then you get to play IX, which is just lovely.

It's all downhill from there.

Been playing Trails in the sky, not really feeling it though it's early days and I'll be away at the weekend so it's all I'll have to play.

I couldn't get into it. Pacing is awful. I really didn't connect to the characters. Too much talking, shitty script.

Oops srry dbl post

Started ff15, meh, not really digging it. Couple hours into ff7 and started ff6(again).

Anyone else just not into ff15?

I finished FF15. It's a pretty crappy game.

My experience was something like

[First few hours] This is terrible.
[Next few hours] I guess this is pretty fun!
[Next few hours] Talk about backseat fishing!
[Next few hours] come on come on let's goooo
[Next few hours] This story is awful and the combat never gets better
[Final hours] This is terrible.

Finally at the finale of Trails in the Sky SC. Jesus they're milking it and dragging it out for all it's worth lol.

Can't believe the game just hands you
Vander and Julia. They're like 15 levels above all my characters and are sort of game breaking in a way so i refuse to use them.

Hopefully i can finish by the weekend and move on to something else. But fuck me the backlog of Jrpgs World of Final Fantasy, FF15, Cold Steel 2, SMTA, Fire Emblem Fates, Dragon Q 7 etc etc...fuck.

Final Fantasy VII, first time. Just finished Disc 1.

This is my favorite in the series thus far (4-7 are all that I've played).

Oh man good deal! I think the game is a classic. I've yet to play another jprg that does a modern setting as well as VII.

Spent most of the day playing Baten Kaitos. Definitely still a great game, the soundtrack is soooooo good. As are the prerendered backgrounds. Finishing it this time for sure.

Polished off Trails in the Sky SC. Might jump right into cold steel 2 right away.
Shame(for me) the 3rd Sky game is gonna be PC only.
