what jrpg are you playing right now ?

FF7 on the PC.

This will be my 2nd playthrough. First time I played this was when I was a freshmen in highschool and that would be 11 years ago.

I just finished my 2nd playthrough of P4 Golden and got my platinum trophy too. I'll probably either finish up Soul Hackers or start Atelier Totori next.

In-between my The Last of Us playing session, I am now playing Ni No Kuni. Such a stark contrast in atmosphere for both of them, hahaha.

Anyways, wow to Ni No Kuni! The music, in particular, amazing stuff! I also really dig reading the Wizard Companion Book thingie. The voice acting so far is very good too.

I am only around two hours in, just in my 1st dungeon after meeting the huge talking tree. I don't really dig the combat system though: but maybe it's because I am still at the very beginning though so no stuff flying around too much yet.

Playing through Legend of Dragoon for the first time. Liking it so far, but just wish the dialogue was a little better.

Replaying Breath of Fire V for whatever reason. I forgot how fucking GOOD this game is. The tuning is mighty tight and the music is divine Sakimoto Goodness.

I'm playing Chrono Trigger right now. The only JRPGs I've played are Pokemon(if they count) so this is my first other than those. I'm not really seeing the appeal though. Does it get better? The story is pretty weak so far. (I just fought the first boss)

That's the equivalent of "The only shooters I've played is CoD, (if they count)"

Shin Sekaiju no Meikyuu, also known as the remake of the first Etrian Odyssey.

It's such an improvement, I'm really surprised how good it is. And I'm firmly in the camp that hates (still do) the Story Mode for the game, so it's not exactly as if I was easy to win over.

I'm about three hours into Persona 4 Golden, and it's been almost nothing but dialogue, lol. Still fun, though. Kinda.

Ni No Kuni. I did some major grinding to go from level 37 to level 62. I would feel bad but this game is pretty tough for me. Hopefully the last third or so is a bit easier now.

I am actually currently in the middle of two. The first is Legend of Mana which I love, and its always been crazy to me how well the visuals in this continue to hold up, but thats largely due to the fantastic artwork, always really liked the non-linear approach aswell as the combat.

The Second is one of my all time favorites in XenoGears. This (imo) was Squares masterpiece on PS1, no matter how much I may enjoy FF, or any other game they produced in that generation, XenoGears trounces it easily.

My only to real regrets is that Breath of Fire 3 (the best), and Suikoden 2 are not on the store for purchase. If someone could bring either of those two to the US store, I would be forever grateful.

Legend of Mana is so great and beautiful, it's a shame it is so under-appreciated.
It really holds up even today, and is my most played PSP title.

I'm playing Devil Survivor Overclocked on 3ds, after such a long wait to see it released (and then patched >_<) here in Europe.

I'm liking it but i hope it isn't huge as other smt games, that usually take me 80+ hours to finish. I would like to finish this before Xillia is out.

Skies of Arcadia Legends

I never finished it on Dreamcast and didn't remember much. I'm now playing it on GC more than 10 years later, and that game is amazing.
It shows that it was from a time when JRPG where treated as much more than niche fan-service things. It's BIG, well written, and the gameplay systems are thoughtful and unapologetic about being a real traditional jRPG. I love it.

Sega better be bringing this game, among others, to PC/consoles very soon.

Phoenix Wright: Justice for All
And yes, I count that as a JRPG. I'm starting to think about downloading some nice JRPG's from the eShop.

Project X Zone.

This doesn't have a plot at all right? Like I think I'm about 60% of the way through and..It's not going to throw a plot at me at the end right?

Replaying FFIX for like the 6th time in my life, I'm on disc 2, the more times I play this game, the more I fall in love with it, there's just no other game like this, it's completely unique.

Completed FF9 last week and started Ys Oath to Felghana this morning on the bus.

So far so good, the faster gameplay and no random battles is a nice change of pace from FF9.

Dat soundtrack.

(I tried it before on PC via the fan translation (this was before the PSP version was announced) and got to the fire dragon boss looking thing but for some reason while this game was installed, my computer would crash at random and I would get some kind of blue screen. Never happened again after I uninstalled it.)

Damn that would be perfect, but I'd be a bit mad if the HD version happens while I'm still on my GC run.

This universe really deserves more games. Just by looking at the amazing Sonic Transformed circuit, a new PS4 Skies of Arcadia would be godly. A man can dream.

Finishing post-game in Ni No Kuni. Did the Alchemy achievement, now I am grinding familiars for the Familiar one.

Game absolutelty rocks and I want NNK2 ASAP.

Just finished the amazing Trails in the Sky. While I wait patiently for XSEED to localize the even better sequel, I'm playing through Phantasy Star IV.

I'm impressed overall just how much it improved on everything in the series.
  • Most developed cast of characters
  • Best, most balanced combat system
  • An arguably more engaging plot
  • Takes some of the best features from previous installments
  • It's harder to get lost in dungeons

My biggest gripe with it is the fact that characters leave the party unlike PS I and II.
Alys being the most tragic example.

Put FF6 on a bit of a hold to start playing Persona 3. Well I meant to play it for like 30 minutes to see what it's like, and I ended up playing for 5 hours straight. Holy hell it's a great game.

Playing Blue Dragon and trying to finish persona 3 FES. Blue dragon has some issues but I WILL NOT GIVE UP! in trying to make it to the end. The MC is annoying.

One of the best JRPGs ever. Persona 5 really can't come soon enough.

playing Tales of Grace f and i'm having trouble getting in the combat system... I kept reading it's the best in the Tales serie, but I really don't get it so far (about 4h in)

I might be doing something wrong but, sidestepping until you get +CC and then mashing attacks seems to work pretty fine... and it's pretty boring

Up the difficulty.

I get hit a lot, difficulty isn't the problem

does the combat system get any deeper later in the game?

It gets much better once you have more Artes and characters as well as Accel mode once you get to the Future arc. Just stick with it for a while.

I went back to playing it after watching my brother play it from the beginning. My last save was on November 11, 2006 so I was surprised it had been 6.5 years since I last played the game. I was 18 and stopped playing at the
Tower of Zosma.

I've been playing it the whole weekend since then as I'm finally poised to beat the game (thank heavens the Wii is backwards compatible). I played through most of Origins before I played through this but a couple of things clicked for in terms of the history of characters' back stories and the world. Bad VA aside (which I can tolerate for the most part), it's been pretty good. Finished Mizuti's side quest; all I need to do is get one more Quzman, finish/do a bunch of fetch quests, and move on to the last place of the game.

There's a several things that Origins does better (for one thing the VA is 100x better). I think in terms of combat, this game's slower paced tactical combat holds up pretty well today and I prefer it slightly more than Origins' combat due to customizing every character's deck and equipping accessories on them. I love both games' combat for different reasons either way but Origins feels more satisfying as a whole.

I'll probably make a RTTP thread.

i'm sooo tempted to buy etrian odyssey's 1,2, and 3, but then I realized, I have sooo many jrpgs and games on backlog. I don't even have the time (i believe) to play a true hardcore jrpg.

only games I'm really waiting for are total war 2, dark souls 2 and ff14

Playing through Legend of Dragoon for the first time. Liking it so far, but just wish the dialogue was a little better.
The translation was pretty bad in this game, if I remember right. I seem to recall there being no contractions - no "I'm," "we're" or whatever. I thought that was weird.

Stick with it, though. The plot is better than the dialogue, and it gets better as you keep going.

Xenoblade Chronicles. I'm not normally a jrpg guy but with all the hype from gaf and everywhere else, and considering I'm lucky enough to live in the US and actually own a copy, I figured I should play it.

It's as great as everyone's said so far (fighting through the sewers of colony 6). I'm just hoping it never gets so difficult as to be frustrating, because I always end up just giving up when that happens. Got too much shit to do.

For the first time in my life since 1989, nothing. Taking a little break from gaming to focus on a really challenging jigsaw puzzle and enjoying the weather.

currently playing this awesome gem. Shame there is no official english release
