what jrpg are you playing right now ?

I started Xillia a little earlier this week, with Jude. The entire first dungeon sequence made me groan. So many cliches. I shouldn't be surprised, though. It's a Tales game.

I'm crazy about JRPG's and I had to force myself to finish Xillia. The first hours are a god damn snorefest, it gets "better" later on.

I might just not enjoy Tales games anymore, and yet I can't wait to play Xillia 2. :P

I can't decide if I should play P4G or Mario and Luigi Dream Team first. >.>

Dream Team gets really annoying because of the handholding, but it's a decent game. P4G is good, most of GAF loves that game to death.

Currently playing The Guided Fate Paradox on PS3, which I bought on an impulse. It's a pretty great game, especially if you're into roguelikes. I'd recommend it.

My current backlog, however, consists of Final Fantasy 6 through 9, Tales of Xillia, Persona 3, Kingdom Hearts 1.5, and Ni no Kuni. I have a spending problem.

I'm currently playing Tales of Xillia on PS3 and Persona 4 Golden on my Vita. I'm about half way through Xillia and I really enjoy it, but sometimes there are sooo many skits in a row. Normally I like the skits because they contribute to the story but sometimes it's just too much -but I don't want to skip them :) I played Tales of Graces f this year too, but in comparison Xillia is way better.
Persona 4 Golden is my first Persona game so far and it's quite addictive - you have so many different things you can do every day beside fighting that I wish the day has more than 24 hours!

I'm about 3 hours into Xenoblade. It's huge! So few RPGs open their doors within 3 hours. The scale is quite immediate. It's nice they let you run around early on too, without constant strings of cutscenes. Getting some FFXII vibes (like first time stepping into Eastersand).

Can't say I like the voices/character designs a lot but if I can used to The Last Story's I'm sure I'll get used to this. Feels bloody great to play this compared to TLS shamble frame-rate game.

Started Wild Arms Alter Code F... Again. Think I'll try and stick through with it this time around, it's supposedly a pretty great game. Never played any of the WA games, and here I am, calling myself a JRPG fan!

I was *greatly* burnt out by Graces f. Forced myself to finish it and regretted the decision immediately. So far, Xillia doesn't seem to suffer from the same overall awfulness in characters and plot. It's just vanilla in other ways. But we'll see. Gotta finish FFXIII-2 first.

Just started playing Front Mission 2 since the final translation patch was released. It's unfortunate that conversations out of battle weren't able to be patched, but it's not that big a deal reading alongside in notepad++ (keeps you position of where you left off!).

Loving it so far, I was excited to finally play this game. The last really good TBS I played was the Tactics Ogre remake for PSP, so it's great to get back into the genre again.

man. do you guys recommend buying a wii u to play xenoblade ?

shiet.

right now i'm playing

smt4, pokemon black 2, ff11, resonance of fate, disgaea 4

I also seriously need to finish ff4 from ps1's ff chronicles...I also have 13-2, but I just couldn't play it. Is there any reason to ? The initial load to your save file takes foreverrrr

may pick up d2 sometime soon and xillia come nov 29th.

cant wait for

  1. xillia 2, dark souls 2, persona 5, castlevania LoS2 (not a jrpg, but still)

man, i love this game. Never played the original on ps1, but I have this on ps2, and the game is just..massive for a ps2 jrpg. I believe I stopped at the final dungeon, but I already completed all the puzzle dungeons. superb game !

Pokemon X/Y and Final Fantasy 9.

I remember getting pretty far into it, and I remember the ending, but there is so much of this game I forgot.

Loving it.(especially the music)

About to play this too. Just ordered it :)

Maybe not a Wii U, but definitely worth buying a Wii for.
The game's fairly hard to get so it gets a bit expensive though...

Playng The Denpa Men 1&2 at the moment, awesome little game, doesn't seem too popular though which is a shame.

Love this series.
I finished the 3rd game a couple of months ago. Great fun.

I kinda got sidetracked by Pokemon Y and NaNoWriMo, but I did manage to finish Mystic Quest. I suppose eventually I'll knock out Lufia (ugh. I really hate the whole "subsequent attacks miss on the same turn if you kill that enemy" aspect though).

Finally got passed a bit on Persona 4 I've been stuck on (and haven't been bothered with) since the Summer. Rescued Rise and saw an interesting side to Teddy.

Mother 2 I've met Paula and we're now off to Threed.

Right now I'm halfway through Chapter 8 of Tales of Graces F, still a lot to go. This game has endless amounts of content I will never finish it.

SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. It's been a blast to get back to that old style of SMT after spending so long trudging through Persona 4. I love the fact that it's simply Demon Employer: The Game on some levels.

Just finished the main story of The Guided Fate Paradox. Took about 50 hours with a little bit of grinding thrown in because it's a NIS game. One of my favorite games of the year and probably the most fun I've had with a JRPG since Resonance of Fate.

Does Pokemon Y counts? Anyways, I still need to finish Tales of the Abyss so that counts too.

I'm thinking of adding Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl into my library soon. Problem is, dunno if I should wait until Black Friday or bite now.

Reached Milla's home village in Tales of Xillia. Just had the chance to link artes for the first time. (Finally!)

_____

The Legend of heroes: TitS. Did all the arena battles. That was a pain. Not the difficulty, I beat every encounter on the first try but it felt like everything went so slow and the game was dragging on. The section in the castle was also a bit slow.

What has annoyed me most, and I've probably said this in every post regarding this game: Every 4th or 5th time a dialog starts, someone starts off with: Haha...

I don't know why, but it really bothers me, having seen that through the entire game. Other than that, the localization is very good.

Just started Mother 3. Seems a fair bit darker than Earthbound?

I've had Mother 3 forever, had the Fangamer guide book for like 2 years and just never could get past the first chapter with flint. I'm now on Chapter 7 and can't look back.

The callbacks are killing me in the best way. It's tone is abysmal compared to Earthbound. Worst thing that happened in EB was an absent father, so much happens in Mother 3 in just the first act, never mind chapter three.

It's definitely more serious in tone, but there is some lighthearted goofiness later on, but yes. It's pretty bleak sometimes.

Keep going with it though. Its a fucking treat. My favorite RPG next to Final Fantasy 6.

I envy you. I wish I could forget it so I could play it again.

SMT IV.

I've only really played the Persona games so this is my first entry in the series. Wildly different from Persona (in a good way). It makes me wish Persona 3/4 dungeons weren't randomly generated as I would've had more fun with the actual RPG parts of these games

Devil Survivor Overclocked and Vagrant Story. Im not really liking all the menus i have to go through in Vagrant Story, slows the fighting way down

Just bought SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers from the eShop ($20 sale). Really liking the game so far. The story has a cool 90s vibe that I find nostalgic. The dungeon crawling aspect is a welcome throwback too, enhanced by the subtle stereoscopic 3D effect.

Also made it to the midpoint (?) of Atelier Meruru on my Vita. Still a great game though my progress has slowed down since I've been busy irl. Hard to put the game down after starting a session so I only pick it up if I have at least a few hours to spare.

Any idea how long its going to be on sale for? Want it, but would like to wait til I finish these damn papers for school lol.

Going to give Ar Tonelico on PS2 another try. Lost all interest in it for w/e reason, almost considering just moving on to the PS3 game so I can get it over with and not have to live with a game I literally only played 5 mins of.

Also considering making my "while on semester break" game Grandia and Grandia 2. Never beat either game even though ive owned them for years. G1 I made it 1/4th the way through disc 2 and stopped. G2 I played on PS2 and just could not stand it, made it to where you finally get 4 party members and just had to put it down since the game slows down when theres only 3 people on the screen... Grabbed the Dreamcast copy, and finally got a emulator to work... crisp gameplay is calling my name.

Hmm, it looks pretty interesting, though I'm not really into the super-cute kawaii stuff on its own. Being a rogue-like, are the levels and enemies truly randomized, or in other words how much replayability is there in this game?

There's a ton of replayability (the post-game is pretty huge, as with most NIS games), and yeah, it's truly randomized. I'd definitely recommend it.

Finished Baten Kaitos last week. I really liked it, the music was fantastic.

I started playing FFXIII a few days ago. I didn't like it at all 3 years ago when I first played it but I decided to give it a second chance. I have a memory of a goldfish so I don't remember anything about it, so I lowered my expectations and I'm actually enjoying it now. The combat is really fun, specially in the post-game content.

There are still a lot of things that bothers me (like crippled party for half of the game), but the combat itself is making up for it.

Finished up Persona 3 Portable a couple weeks ago, just started P4. Hopefully it lives up to the hype, considering 3 was pretty awesome all things considered

at Calios mental hospital atm.

oh shiettt. mah nigga. great great game !!!

you gotta play covenant afterwards !

dem sidequests. dat story. shiettttttttt

HOW DID YOU KNOW I WAS BROWN-ish!?!?!?

ha yeah ofc :D Have all 4 games but haven't finished 2 or 3 yet just Koudelka and SH.
Need to hunt down all the members of Sacnoth/Nautilus and force them to sign it for me :)

I started playing Graces F last week. I just made it to the desert area... it's good but it's a bit excessive with all its sub-systems (half of the shit I have no idea what it does, like I don't understand the whole screen turning orange or blue for instance)... and the game has a tendency to railroad you around a bit more than the Tales series usually does.

I don't mind the story or the characters (actually I'm a big fan of Pascal). Not sure if it will top Vesperia as my favorite game in the series yet, or if the story ends up being as entertaining as Abyss yet.
