what jrpg are you playing right now ?

FES first for the full story and if you like it try p3p FeMc afterwards.

A big problem for me is that the gameplay in 3 sounds kind of awful after playing 4 so much and also, I play almost strictly portable games. It's going to be very difficult for me to find the time to sit in front of the TV for all those hours...

ugh. i have this, pandora's tower and xenoblade. they all look shitty upscaled...

If by any chance you mean you're playing on a Wii U, I know a lot of people have said (with Xenoblade at least) that playing on the Gamepad screen results in a really clean looking experience.
Of course, propping up the pad and dragging out a separate Wii Remote is almost more hassle than it's worth.

P3P isn't available on PSN for use on the Vita?

So play it on the Vita or PSP. The FES only content (the Answer) isn't worth playing, forget about it and watch it on youtube.

It's been a long while since I played Persona 3, but which one is the 180 level boss again?

My pattern for playing Persona 3 is always like this: zooming straight to the boss floor from the floor the team started, only fighting the monsters that are in the way, never bothering actually filling the map or whatnot.

I never had any problems with bosses by doing that. Well, "never had any problems" is not exactly true but I beat them all just fine. Not too many grinding necessary too, especially if you have been expanding your persona collection.

And hell, I played Persona 3 FES where you can't even control your team-mates. Your playing the version where you can control them so it should be way easier experience than mine, hahaha.

The three statis knights..guys? Basically I googled that you need null slash, and I need to fuse a persona who has it, who is currently 4 levels above my character (who is not underleveled by any means). How someone is supposed to figure this out without consulting a FAQ is beyond me.

The more I play this game, the more frustrating it seems to get. The system link thing is neat and all, but I have to say, the actual gameplay part is horrible, repetitive shit. Running around the same corridors for hundreds of floors and getting stuck battling overpowered enemies for dozens of hours is not my idea of fun. I'm not even sure I want to try Persona 4G after this. If I do, it'll surely be at the lowest difficulty because frankly, I'm not a masochist.

Loaded up my 40 hour save in Persona 4 Golden after not playing for at least 6 months. I fell right back in love with this game and played 2+ hours straight last night and went to bed way too late haha.

Ni No Kuni.

Started it nearly a year ago. I keep getting back to it because I want to finish the story but it's just such a bad game. Gameplay is just running from A to B and every single thing is told you straight away. Combat is so bad that I skip everything I can so now I'm at a point where killing bosses is impossible unless I'm willing to run around spamming magic for ages (level 22 in Hamelin) and thinking about having to grind levels just makes me quit the game. At this point I'd even take a turn based combat system because of the AI and I've never been a huge fan of those.

Someone convince me to continue, please. : (

I'm currently playing SMTIV. Really slow pace since I don't have much time to play it actually. Already put in 30 hrs and don't feel like I'm anywhere near completion. Maybe I should have picked a ~25hr RPG to play instead, lol.

Persona 4 Golden

Holy. Flippin. Crap.

I've heard nothing but glowing reviews about this game and called a moderate amount of BS. Saw it on sale for $20 and had to bite. This game is seriously one of the most brilliant pieces of software I've ever played.

The gameplay is rewarding, the characters are awesome, and it's truly an RPG where you steer the directions of your character. Brilliant concept and execution in my opinion. I love the pokemon mindset of wanting to find all the creatures and fuse them to make a vast collection, but without the "kiddy" nature to it all. The persona system in this game is seriously deep if you want it to be.

The jrpg I'm currently playing is Thousand Arms - PSX
Thousand_Arms.jpg

I've replayed this game so many times(maybe once every other year) and I can never seem to get away from it. The soundtrack is amazing, there is voice acting which makes cut scenes and the story entertaining, and you can also date different girls to raise the level of your weapons with elemental spirits(main character is an elemental blacksmith). I recommend this game because it was a different feel, but still stayed true to the rpg "ness" gamers want (imo).

Other rpg's I found fun are:

Wild Arms
Brave Fencer Musashi
Alundra
Lunar: Silver Star Story

Keep revisiting Xenoblade here and there. Over 30 hours in at this point and seemingly still have a while to go. Started in late 2012, but I take multi-month breaks here and there. One day I'll get through it, does look improved on Wii U over Wii though, crisper image.

MH3U I am getting back into. Over 80 hours played, most on 3DS, but now that I have a Wii U from the holdiays, I can finally give online a try, which has been addictive and awesome. Great community as well in my experience.

Slowing down on Xillia 1 and Ni No Kuni. Really want to like both, but I am not digging the combat in either. Only about a dozen hours into each since from when they launched last year, but each time I revisit, I end up playing for about 30 minutes and get turned off pretty quick. Ni No Kuni looks fantastic, but I am just not digging the fighting and the quest is starting to feel like overlong padding. Xillia pisses me off with the quickly respawning enemies and bland environs. GAF says good things about Xillia 2, but it's been hard to maintain motivation playing through the first game.

And I'm done with Skies of arcadia, it just feels too much like a terrible tech demo. I got into a battle with 6 dung beetle things which all cast group sleep, which got me into a sleep lock until they decided to actually attack. Each spell animation takes 5 seconds, I was caught in a loop for at least 5 turns. I ended leaving the temple, fighting the gigas (which also took ages!) and then fighting Belleza, which also took ages. I don't have patience for games that like to inflate their playtimes with mandatory, lengthy and useless animations.

Going to start Baten Kaitos instead.

Meh. This is a good game. Combat system is very strange, that fact, but game is good. I am too, in Hamelin, Oliver 25lvl.
If you have a problems with batttles, remember, you can always change difficult of the game on easy.

Playing Final Fantasy VII on PC. Went through the trouble of getting Aeris's final limit break , but forgot at which point she left the party so I didn't level it up in time. On to disc two! Using the PS4 controller, but wish there was a way to use the D-pad. Feels weird using a analog stick in this game.

Playing this I wonder how they're ever going to do a proper remake. My hope would be to keep all of the silliness, and humor, but I have a feeling they would try to make it serious like Advent Children.

Can't wait to play FFVIII after I finish VII. One of my favorites in the series.

Agreed on memory stuff and alchemy but I still really enjoyed Ayesha. Not irked by lack of Japanese dub since English is the default voice in the Atelier games and that's how I played them.

Ranking all four on PS3: Totori = Meruru > Ayesha > Rorona
Ayesha has the worst alchemy system out of the lot.

So, i'm in the middle of the 3rd year (so close to the end I think). Yeah I ended up playing a lot.
They really manage to make the alchemy kinda meh, which is the main reason why I play these games (Mana Khemia 3 pls). Hope they fixed that in Esha&Logy.

Next up shoul be one of the numerous SMT games I didn't finish due to time. Or maybe I'll come around to finally finish Xillia...
But hte next few month will be pretty packed for me, between all the RPGs and other stuff... Been a long time since we had so many RPG (WRPG included) in such a short time.

Only a few hours in so far of ETERNAL SONATA. Slow to start it seems but hoping it gets better or something.

All jrpgs are slow to start. Keep trudging through, the gameplay is superb.

When you get to endgame/postgame that's where the fun starts

I started up Valkyria Chronicles 2 (finally). Been meaning to get to this one for a long time. I'd like to get through it before I start in on the recent Valkyria Chronicles 3 english fan translation.

Spent the last week going through Fire Emblem Awakening, so now I'm back to

Taking a break was probably a good idea, as I find I'm enjoying it more (not that I wasn't previously) now. I was getting a little tired of the vague world map exploration business, but now I'm refreshed. Great game in any case. :D

Started Shin Megami Tensei IV a few days ago. Enjoying the battle system and music. Not too far in though.
Most recently killed Issachar.

Bought Final Fantasy XIII-2 since it's like $6 on Xbox Live. Figured if I like the Lightning Returns demo, may as well get a play-through in.

worth it IMO. I am only about 10 hours in but enjoying it when I get back to it. They really tried some new stuff compared to XIII, and though it's not all great, I think it is a better game.

I'm back to P3P. I think I've been playing this game off and on for almost 2 years now. I'm about 60 hours in, and with 2 months left on the calendar I'm going to just dig my heels in and go for it. I really like this game but MAN IS IT LONG.

Just restarted playing The World Ends With You last week, after putting it down when I had my DSLite. Now that I have a 3DS XL, it's made me revisit a bunch of games I never completed.

Absolutely loving it again; I'm on day 3 of Chapter 2 at the moment, and even though I'm sure I had better pins the first time I played, its fun to experiment with the new ones I now have. I'm hoping to push through and finish it off in the next week or so.

Suikoden 5 down. Easily my favorite of the PS2 Suikodens.
Georg best Suikoden character.
Onwards to... replaying SMT games, eventually, me thinks.

Beat Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. It was a lot better than that I thought it was going to be. Gameplay was good and I enjoyed the backstory of Roxas and company.

From a handheld standpoint, I'll be moving on to Persona 2: Innocent Sin.

Still playing La Pucelle on PS2

I was playing (GAF's #1 JRPG!) Persona 3 FES again and just made it to June, but might be done now. I'm playing on Hard for the first time and after playing so much P3P I forgot I don't control party member tactics and they keep getting me killed in the third tier now. Getting a weak hit against something and instead of attacking a different monster, re-attacking the same one...? I don't know how people say FES AI isn't that bad and I have no idea how people made it through hard. Just keep grinding?

I rather enjoyed it.
Then again, that was a long time ago. What exacly displeased you?

Just rinished the Ligntning returns demo (wasn't really long, when I think back to BD's one...), pretty impatient to get the game now.

oh I don't feel bad about it. Bad for all the characters since the odds seem stacked against them. I liked it myself.

and I freaking love this boss theme

Ah yeah well, Megaten games aren't exactly known to be lighthearted.

Just got done with Tales of xillia, may be moving on to Lightning returns next, I'm unsure.

Quick question: I stopped just after
I got out in the "real world"
. How long would I have left if I picked it up again?

Quest: Brian's Journey (GBC, 2000).

Taking a break from Trails in the Sky, since it still hadn't really caught me after a few more hours with it. Decided to dig up something I already knew was great instead.

This game is really cool. The battle system is quite deep, especially considering that it's a turn-based GBC game with only one party member. I've never actually played Quest 64, but from what I understand, it's a faithful recreation of that game's combat. You move around the battlefield and mix and match elements to create spells without knowing what they'll do until you cast them. The balance is pretty wonky, but that's part of the fun; you work out each spell's effects as you go, and have to constantly reconsider everything you've learned each time you meet a new enemy group.

My main complaint with the game is the lack of direction. You just kind of wander around aimlessly and things sometimes happen around you. It works fine in the beginning, since it's mostly linear, but now I've reached the point where you have to start backtracking, and I've completely forgotten where the damn desert is. The game does not do a very good job of making you understand its world, what with you constantly travelling by boat or being teleported or being carried while unconcious.

Sorry i don't really understand, as there are many situations in the game that could relate to that, more specifically, where were you in the game?

Couple of hours (or even less) after beating the old guy Maxwell, after waking up at Alvin's cousin's place.
