What lessons do you want Sony to learn?

What they really should have done is just make all these games have a single player campaign from the jump and just tack on a bare bones multiplayer mode like they used to. THEN If they noticed any of the multiplayer modes from any of the games really popping, they could spin that off into something bigger.

All the wasted asset creation and dialogue/cutscenes they made for Concord was such a fucking waste of money. Classic case cart-before-the-horse.
Totally sounds reasonable, since the Sony crowd enjoys SP and Sony has a foundation of making solid SP focused games. Match made in heaven. Check box one done.

Add in a serviceable MP modes and build that up. Check box two done.

Problem is Sony suits (along with other ones in other companies too) want to cash in fast and do the opposite. MP + mtx first. SP secondary or non-existent. If Fortnite and BR games can jump the gun being MP focused, then lets copy them and cash in too mentality.

Totally. The C-suite is brain dead, and it's starting to become obvious that people like Hermen Hulst are part of the problem.

These fuckers wasted a whole generation on trying to chase shit they "think" people want based on trends, when they've all been in development long enough that the trends have changed and players have moved on.

I remember them saying "people love Sony for the engaging single player stories blah, blah, blah" and that in order to keep producing those stories and games they would need to sell this multiplayer slop. It's starting to seem like instead of buying Bungie they should have blown their wad on an offer to buy some already-successful property and developer.

Less GAAS, more AstroBots.
I think a lot of people are definitely down for that. Unfortunately even Astro Bot didn't make enough money to satiate Sony.

But yeah, imagine if they were cranking on like 3 or 4 Astro Bot sized games since launch and maybe TRYING to push out some new IP instead of stretching their limp dicks just far enough past their nuts to fit the mushroom tip up their own asshole.

They should recall their roots...
Lower budget but safer and fast to produce.
See ps1 and ps2 catalogue, their game is diverse enough. And push all marketing to their best there. They are too focusing on cinematic and high quality graphic and also too long to develop. It's not healthy in the pong run...

$1000 Playstation 6, and make it even bigger in size than PS5
Close down some first-party studios
Double down on live-service
Make a PSVR3
$100 games as default
The Last of Us Part III, The Last of Us Part III Remastered, The Last of Us Part III Remastered - Definitive Edition, The Last of Us - The Definitive Trilogy Edition
Never make a new Wipeout or Motorstorm
Next God of War kills Kratos off and has Atreus as main protagonist from there on out.
Let Insomniac do only Marvel games from here on out
GT8 requires an online subscription to play
Next Horizon game needs to launch on May 26th, 2026.

Insomniac should hire writers and directors that actually understand comedy. For a company that makes games with frequent doses of humour, they are yet to make me laugh once.
Somebody should tell Druckmann that you cant win an Oscar with games.
Give Cory Barlog more resources and money to make more than one game in 10 years.
Make at least one offbeat, weird, crazy game like you used to.
Stop making boring slogs.

One good GaaS game with proper support is all you need, stop persuing a bunch of them. Focus on single player, story driven games, it's always been the strength of PS Studios. Build back up your Japan studio, we need more quality 1st party games from Japan and maybe establish studios in other Asian nations that are currently flourishing such as Korea and China. Also focus more on AA, not everything needs to be AAA with hundreds of millions of dollars in dev costs. Learn from Expedition 33.

Most important of all is stop pushing woke politics in your games, gamers don't want that when they play a game to unwind and have fun. They just want a good story and good gameplay. Again, learn from Expedition 33.

Split your studios in smaller teams, make wide variety of games (including multiplayer games).

Put a hard limit of $100m budget per game. Lower if studio location is not very expensive.

Dont be afraid of financial failures.

FIND A NEW STORY!

I'm tired of their AAA games all having the same (front)story.

MC's loved one dies (often in a gruesome way for shock value) and the rest of the game is the character healing/coping with the emotional damage.

Horizon - Rost, TLOU - Joel's daughter, TLOU2 - Joel, Days Gone - Deacon's wife, God of War - Krato's wife, Ghost of Yotei - MC's husband, Intergalactic - TBA (probably the bald girl's girlfriend/boyfriend/alienfriend).

No effort leads you to abosolutely nothing.

Sonyers doesn't want Gaas or Multiplater only games.

You can't survive a full generation mostly with ports from the previous one

If the userbase want a remaster... dont shove them 34 other rematers before giving to them what they want.

Adquire Expedition 33 studio or make analyst study it's success and try to replicate it by focusing on smaller teams with less ppl to mess things around.

If you wanna make a Gaas game do just one right... using either Socom or killzone IP

If they want Live Service games so much maybe just maybe they should bring back MAG or SOCOM… Oh yeah they closed Zypper after forcing them do a CoD SOCOM back in the PS3 era…

But in all seriousness, don't listen to Bungie and focus on delivering AA/AAA single players game Mid to Large (something like Expedition 33) in between big releases

Somebody should tell Druckmann that you cant win an Oscar with games.
Aside from trying a bit of first Uncharted, and TLOU at the start, I never actually played any of his games; I am sure they are great though, not to mention I do like when games have epic, or long, or cinematic, or anime stories, etc., but still...

I like this sentence.

Make single player games triple a and double. Dont just stick to 1 game type either. Dont follow trends, create them. Also please stop putting our shit US culture into video games, thank you...

Stop forcing their first party studios doing :1-cross gen titles, 2- live service bullshit,3- 4k 60fps bullshit looking titles.

There's not a lot for Sony to learn really, they've ran away with it, in terms of the dominance and success against the (next to no) competition....since what....2016/17?

This GAAS push has been a resounding failure.

Developing some GAAS games is fine, but putting all of your single-player studios into developing GAAS projects is not the one. Let them do what they do best.

Also, more AA games.

Removing Hermen Hulst from the company would be the first step. How much does he have to damage the brand image and PS Studios to get rid of him?

Concord's failure hit them hard. It was supposedly too big to fail, but it failed.

The pipeline of games should be focused entirely and exclusively on PS home consoles. Anything else is a waste of time.

Learn from their own fuckups this gen, and Microsoft's for the last 3. But it's not looking good right now.

This is such a weird take considering he was responsible for one of Sony's premier studios and one of the best game engines on the market.

GAAS was Ryan's push. I don't know why people lump in Hulst with this.

Stop investing so heavily in GAAS. Focus on your strengths, on what you know how to do, on what made you successful. Stop chasing money and trends. Stop pouring massive resources into something you are inept at.

To not listen to the GAAS haters or butt-hurt weebs still crying over Japan Studios cratering. Beyond that better management for the vision they do have.

More GaaS!

On Fire Burn GIF by Us

They'll follow the MS path eventually. Doesn't have anything to do with lessons, just reality.

More AA. Their budgets are wildly out of control and they're probably the top publisher pushing this. The only question is if their audience will accept it after the expectations they've built up.

PC is the main way to access growing markets in Asia and younger generations. The other growing area is portables. The console market is not growing.

Best thing they can do is open their own store on PC and start building a foothold there beyond Steam. PS6 will shrink further than PS5.

I want Sony to be cognizant that their fans don't know what they want until it's in their hands.

And also their development teams should ease up on the amount/length of cutscenes in their games, IMO.

Single player games with good narrative. Not gen Z slop and Gaas. Also SPEND LESS FUCKING MONEY ON DEVELOPMENT. The vast vast vast majority of all the industries problems right now are down to the ridiculous bloat in team size and budget. It results in creative bankruptcy, teams that lack agency, and move slowly and inefficiently, and they take so long that trends and market sentiment and ideologies change by the time they release.

Even ideological "woke games" would have space to exist and be viable if they simply spent accordingly.

It can be done, remedy always put out AAA quality for 50-100 mil. Expedition 33 was even less. Then we have many indie devs that punch WAY above their weight. No man's sky, despite its launch problems was 10 people.

Spend less money. Listen to the fucking customer base and make games for your actual customers.

It's like the industry has completely forgotten the basics.

First, Sony needs to show that they're actually capable of learning hard lessons again before any suggestions are made.

Well.....they did demote Herman Hulst. That's something, I guess. Unfortunately he still leads the studios but maybe the higher ups will reign him in a bit.

/highly optimistic take

Keep on the trajectory, I want to see what Marathon and Fairgame$ does to their reputation. They can obviously foot the bill for consecutive failures since they have no competition, right?

What they are reference on terms of first party? Single player games. Reorganize your first party studios to focus on that. Close haven, sell or close Bungie and buy more sp only studios to offer more than 1 game per year.
