Flowers - Seeso

Written and directed by Will Sharpe, 'Flowers' centers around an eccentric and dysfunctional family struggling to hold themselves together. As Maurice fights inner demons and dark secrets, Deborah tries to keep the family together at all costs and becomes increasingly suspicious that Maurice is in a secret homosexual relationship with his Japanese illustrator Shun. In 'The Windsors', the much-loved Royal Family is re-imagined through the lens of an outrageous soap opera, and although the stories are completely fictional, they are inspired by real events.

Hillsborough - BBC Two

Hillsborough is an in-depth, moving account of Britain's worst sporting disaster, in which 96 men, women and children were killed, hundreds injured and thousands traumatised.

The documentary exposes the lack of dignity shown to bereaved families as they arrived in Sheffield to identify their loved ones laid out in body bags on a gymnasium floor. It considers the impact of the orchestrated vilification of fans in the media and, as a consequence, their public condemnation. By interviewing those involved, it recounts the 27-year campaign for justice fought on behalf of the 96 who died.

Raising Expectations - Family Channel

The live-action family comedy series, created by Tom Saunders (Arrested Development) stars Jason Priestley and Molly Ringwald as seemingly flawless parents Wayne and Paige Wayney. The series follows the misadventures of their less-than-perfect son, Emmett as he celebrates his relatively mediocre status within his overachieving family.

Upstart Crow - BBC Two

It's 1592 and Will Shakespeare is just at the beginning of his extraordinary career. The series will focus on both Will's family and professional life and include the surprising stories of where many of his ideas came from.

In the series, Will finds inspiration for Romeo from an unlikely source; mislays a nearly treasonous masterpiece; gets tricked into a very embarrassing pair of tights; has a spot of bother with the wife over some sonnets; meets three witches who predict great things for him; and borrows some money on some rather unusual conditions.

Chelsea - Netflix

Chelsea Handler's new talk show will feature an updated format that encompasses her unfiltered opinions on topical entertainment and cultural issues, as well as her signature guest interviews.

Cunk on Shakespeare - BBC Two

Philomena Cunk knows absolutely nothing about Shakespeare, but that won't stop her attempting to present a ground-breaking documentary about him.

With the help academics, actors, linguists and historians, Cunk will tell the life story of Shakespeare. She'll explore some of the works that have made him the greatest playwright the world has ever known, very much the Michael Bay of Elizabethan England.

Cunk will leave no stone unturned as she gets to the bottom of the Bard: visiting his birthplace, exploring The Globe, studying priceless artefacts, and interviewing "literally six different experts", including renowned actor Simon Russell Beale, Educating Yorkshire teacher Matthew Burton, and top Shakespearean scholar Professor Stanley Wells.

Shorter than Hamlet, funnier than King Lear, and easier to spell than Cymbeline, 'Cunk On Shakespeare' is absolutely the last word in Shakespeare documentaries. Cunk says: "No doubt wherever he is, Shakespeare can't wait to watch it."

Wolf Creek - Stan

'Wolf Creek' is a psychological thriller set in the world that fans of the films will recognise – but this time things are different. At first the pattern is familiar: Mick Taylor targets an American tourist family to terrorise and destroy. But the tables are turned when 19-year-old Eve survives the massacre and starts to rebuild her shattered existence by embarking on a mission of revenge.

Mum - BBC Two

A comedy about a mother at a milestone in her life. We follow her and her family through a year of new beginnings as she rebuilds her life following the death of her husband.

Mum is joined by her supportive life-long friend Michael. Through a year of new beginnings she rebuilds her life surrounded by her family: son Jason and his girlfriend Kelly; her brother Derek and his new partner, Pauline; and her in-laws.

Zoombies - Fuse

A strange virus quickly spreads through a safari park and turns all the zoo animals into the gruesome, wild undead. Those people left in the park must manage the mayhem and stop the snarling, shredded, blood-soaked beasts before they escape to zombify the city and all its inhabitants.

The Last Bid - Lifetime

Annette and Molly start a business purchasing abandoned storage lockers and selling the contents for profit. After they make the winning bid for storage locker 181, their lives change forever... The locker's previous owner, Dayton, was a thief and a murderer who targeted affluent brides and hid their jewels and cash in his storage locker. But when Dayton goes to prison for driving a stolen car, he falls behind on his payments for the locker and it goes up for auction. A Time to Dance - HMC

Based on Karen Kingsbury's best-selling novel, the film tells the story of Abby and John Reynolds, a married couple who have been together since their days as high school sweethearts - when John was a football hero and Abby dreamed of becoming a writer. Now in their forties, Abby is a restaurant critic for a local newspaper and John is a football coach at their son's high school. Though their seemingly perfect marriage is the envy of their peers, the truth is that they have fallen out of love, and plan to announce their impending divorce during their daughter Nicole's upcoming college break.

But John and Abby's plan takes a turn when an elated Nicole surprises them with an announcement that she has gotten engaged. Not wanting to put a damper on Nicole's cherished event, John and Abby agree to wait until after her wedding to tell her about their divorce. With the clock ticking and John and Abby helping Nicole prepare for her wedding day, they may have one last chance to again find their love.

Coupled - Fox

Hosted by entertainment personality Terrence "J" Jenkins, 'Coupled' follows 12 single, smart and young professional women looking for love, who will meet face-to-face with eligible single men against the beautiful backdrop of the Caribbean islands. The women have first choice as they instantly decide if they feel a spark of chemistry and want to spend more time with each guy, or if they don't feel a connection and want to wait for the next one.

The real soap opera unfolds as new couples are formed and have to discover whether or not they have the compatibility to make their relationships last. 'Coupled' will also feature the one thing that all modern romances have in common - texting. The women and men are armed with cell phones throughout the series, giving the audience a front row seat to the real drama, as their text conversations pop up on screen.

Lady Dynamite - Netflix

A new original comedy series starring Maria Bamford, 'Lady Dynamite' is based on what she has accepted to be "her life." The occasionally surreal episodes, refracted across multiple periods inspired by the actor/comedian's life, tell the story of a woman who loses - and then finds - her shit.

Love, Nina - BBC One

Inspired by Nina Stibbe’s book, 'Love, Nina' is a fictionalized adaptation of Nina’s letters home to her sister: a charming, laugh-out-loud culture clash drama series about a young nanny from Leicester finding her feet in 1980s London. It celebrates family and friendship in all its chaotic glory.

All the Way - HBO

Bryan Cranston reprises his Tony-winning role in 'All the Way', a riveting behind-the-scenes look at President Lyndon B. Johnson's tumultuous first year in office after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Staking his presidency on what would be an historic, unprecedented Civil Rights Act, Johnson finds himself caught between the moral imperative of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the expectations of the southern Democratic Party leaders who brought Johnson to power.

Run to Me - Lifetime

Alison Wynn is an amateur triathlete who convinces Dr. Laura Stevens, a controversial peak-performance trainer, to take her on as a client. Preacher - AMC

Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's popular '90's comic book franchise of the same name, 'Preacher' is a supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama that follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power. Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy come together and when they do, they are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.

Showing Roots - Lifetime

Starring Maggie Grace, Uzo Aduba, Elizabeth McGovern, Adam Brody, and Cicely Tyson, 'Showing Roots' is set in the year 1977 and follows two women who, after being inspired by the miniseries 'Roots', look to integrate their small town. In a small southern town where there definitely are still "right" and "wrong" sides of the tracks, these two young women -- one white, one black -- forge an unlikely friendship that sparks a journey of independence, self-discovery, and ultimately results in the discovery of the perfect hairdo.

The Do-Over - Netflix

'The Do-Over' sees Adam Sandler and David Spade as a pair of down on their luck friends who decide to start their lives over by faking their own deaths and assuming new identities. Unfortunately, it turns out the people whose identities they stole were themselves in a heap of trouble.

Roots - History/A&E/Lifetime/LMN

A remake of the groundbreaking 1977 classic, this four-night, eight-hour event series is a historical portrait of American slavery recounting the journey of one family and their will to survive and ultimately carry on their legacy despite hardship.

The Dresser - Starz

'The Dresser' tells the story of one fateful night, backstage in a small regional theatre during World War II as a troupe of touring actors stages a production of Shakespeare's "King Lear." Bombs are falling, sirens are wailing, the curtain is up in an hour but the actor/manager "Sir" (Anthony Hopkins) who is playing Lear is nowhere to be seen. His dresser "Norman" (Ian McKellen) must scramble to make sure the show goes on but will Sir turn up in time and if he does will he be able to perform that night?

'The Dresser' is a wickedly funny and deeply moving story of friendship and loyalty as Sir reflects on his lifelong accomplishments and seeks to reconcile his turbulent friendships with those in his employ before the final curtain. It was first adapted for the screen by Harwood himself 32 years ago, in the 1983 Peter Yates film starring Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay. The current production reverts to Ronald Harwood's original text as it was written for the stage.

Feed the Beast - AMC

'Feed the Beast' tells the story of Tommy (David Schwimmer) and Dion (Jim Sturgess) who are like brothers. With all the love - and all the complications - that comes with it. Dion can't stay out of trouble. Tommy can't move past it. For two friends on the brink of losing everything, a dusty pipe dream of opening up an upscale restaurant in their hometown of the Bronx is all they have left to turn their lives around.

Maya & Marty in Manhattan - NBC

'Maya and Marty in Manhattan' is an hourlong live variety show starring 'Saturday Night Live' veteran Maya Rudolph and comedy legend Martin Short.

The series will feature sketches that spoof current events, celebrities and topical trends, as well as musical performances. Among comedy circles, Rudolph and Short are considered two of the best sketch performers in the business and this collaboration will create a comedy one-two punch unlike any other on television.

Cleverman - SundanceTV/ABC Austraila

Set in the near future, 'Cleverman' is a startlingly original drama rooted in Australian Aboriginal mythology. The series depicts a deeply conflicted and anxious society, fearful of a minority group living among them, endowed with extraordinary physical traits. One young man - The Cleverman - struggles with his own power and the responsibility to unite this divided world, but he must first overcome a deep estrangement from his older brother.

Outcast - Cinemax

Based on the Skybound/Image comic title by creator Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead) and artist Paul Azaceta, 'Outcast' follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson, a preacher who has personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate - and the fate of the world - forever.

Garage Sale Mystery: The Novel Murders - HMC

Jennifer Shannon (Lori Loughlin) is a garage sale shopping expert whose sharp observation skills allow her to uncover valuable antiques, as well as help her local police department investigate crimes and solve mysteries. When an impoverished man enters Rags to Riches - a consignment shop where Jennifer sells the gems she's found at garage sales - and asks to have an item home-delivered, Jennifer agrees. Upon her arrival at his run-down apartment, Jennifer finds the man murdered. As the police survey the crime scene, Jennifer cannot help but think there is something familiar about the details of the killing - and soon realizes that the victim's cold-blooded demise is a re-enactment of a murder in a classic mystery novel.

Animal Kingdom - TNT

Based on the Australian film of the same name, 'Animal Kingdom' centers on 17-year-old Joshua "J" Cody, who moves in with his freewheeling relatives in their Southern California beach town after his mother dies of a heroin overdose. I also will likely watch Mr Robot, Dark Matter and Killjoys, but probably only when they're done with their seasons.

Amazing work as always Ratsky (A+ on the photoshops), but fyi Midnight Sun is slated for autumn. The first episode (or maybe two) were screened at some festival, but apparently it won't air for a while. There was a reason I didn't mention it when we were talking about this.

Roots - I'm wary of remakes. But there definitely is potential here.
Cleverman - Who am I kidding. I've literally watched every single drama series Sundance TV has ever aired. It's not likely I'm not going to watch this, now is it.
The Night Of - Come on HBO, Criminal Justice was good. Don't screw this up.
The Get Down - Baz Luhrmann is hit and miss with me. So let's see if this hits or misses.
Stranger Things - Maybe it's amazing. But at first glance, it doesn't entice me.
The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving - Might end up watching this just for Craig Roberts, but please be good.

Might watch:
Flowers - Liked the trailers, but it isn't airing here I think and I'm not about to chase it down.
Le Bureau des Légendes - About to start the first season of this soon, so if I like it (and, well, I do like most spy fiction) I'm in for season 2.
Gomorrah - Pretty much as above, but take away the spy fiction part and add that I liked the film quite a bit. Not sure if the show can live up to it though.
Animal Kingdom - Loved the film, really not sold on it as a TV series. Even less sold on it as a TV series than Gomorrah

Not very good at selling people on things, but I'll take a stab:

Starts off as a unique crime procedural. A secret artificial intelligence was created for the U.S. government to predict terror events so they could be prevented before they occur, using mass data collection. As a side-effect it can also predict any premeditated killings, but the government doesn't care about that aspect (the machine's basically illegal, so it could never be used full-scale like that anyway). The creator of the machine secretly siphons off small bits of the "irrelevant" data, and recruits a homeless former spy to help him prevent those murders. A lot of stuff dealing with ever-growing electronic surveillance on citizens (when NSA's PRISM got revealed by Snowden a couple years after the series started, the show's creators joked that they totally called it). Bit of a slow burn at first, but it ramps up. It's created and led by Jonathan Nolan, and it shows, because it's basically a super grounded version of Nolan Batman early on, before branching off into some really creative and also very Nolan-y stuff. The two main characters basically combine to make Batman without the suit, and Bruce's machine to locate the Joker in The Dark Knight shares an inspiration with the machine in POI.

Over time it becomes a full-on serial drama exploring artificial intelligences in really unique ways, eventually getting directly into the mind of AIs, building up to (sort of spoilery, but I suggest you read it if you're still the edge)

more or less a secret war between AI "gods" of opposing viewpoints working with/through humanity to reshape the world, with the "good" side struggling to balance morality vs. the greater good, while the other simply wants to brute force a "better" world.

Lots of great story and characters arcs that all interweave, and some of the most surprising and original moments on TV. One episode has become likely my favorite ever - almost the entire episode is in the mind of the machine as it calculates alternate ways a particular major scenario could play out. It's crazy good and the implementation of the idea is spectacular. It's actually one of the highest user-reviewed episodes ever on IMDb if you care (along with 5 others in the top 50, making it tied with Breaking Bad for the show with the most top-50 episodes).

Fantastic cast of characters/actors. Jim Caviezel, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Chapman, Michael Emerson, Amy Acker, Sarah Shahi, all amazing. Tons of great side characters too.

Also, fucking impeccable music choices. Like, holy shit.

The full series thus far is currently on Netflix and CBS All Access.

The promos have been amazing. Can't miss this.

Might get an episode or two out of me. The mundane lifestyle turns into a crime drama with modsters and guns attempt at being prestige has sorta worn me down. Not saying this show won't be good, but there are 5000 of these type of shows in the post-Breaking Bad landscape. Even when it's done well, I still roll my eyes a bit.
