What was the most violent movie you watched as a kid?

Hard Boiled. I'd never seen anything like it at the time. I remember being in total shock both at how great it was, and how insanely over the top the violence was. So many people mowed down.... 0_o

My 12 year old mind was blown.

By the time I was 6 years old, I had already seen Aliens, Predator, and Terminator 1 on tape. I could really dig deep down in my memories to try to recall what was the most violent thing I ever saw before the age of 12 or something, but those 3 stood out the most.

For some reason, when I was 10 my Dad let me and my sister watch this when my Mom was out of town. Ten minutes into the movie and there is Tina's death scene. Scared us shitless, my Mom never forgave my Dad for that.

It was awesome though. Thanks, Dad.

Akira. My stepdad showed it to me when I was 7 or 8. It completely blew my mind. I wasn't old enough to understand the english subtitles.

I remember that some of the shots that really shocked me was the scene were Tetsuo gets his arm blown off and it starts spreading. Tetsuos girlfriend falling her on her bike headfirst and her tits being outragously animated. The one with the telekenesis in the hospital. The urban jungle theme. The intro with the neon flair on the bikes, and the "blue man" shooting the german shepards.
The film had very, very strong images. Very graphical and cinematic.

It turned me onto Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin, which for some reason was extremely popular in Finland-Sweden-Denmark-Norway in dubbed forms. Every kid had seen this. We didn't have real exposure to dragon ball and that stuff, but everyone saw this as the only anime. After this it was Pokemon when the games got really popular in the late 90s.

Ginga was also very violent. I loved them! AKAKABUTOOOOOO!!!!!

My brother's been watching The Walking Dead since he was around 7/8, since it started

My parents were stricter when I was that age, so I didn't see more violent stuff till later. Probably The Matrix or T2 were my first R movies

I saw Commando on TV with my dad and only remembered the opening garbage truck shooting scene for decades afterwards and didn't know what movie it was until I watched the movie again and saw the scene.

Robocop, for sure.

I remember being more traumatized by Robocop writhing in pieces in front of the police station in Robocop 2 than by anything in the original, though.

Starship Troopers is what's coming to mind. I was about 10 when I saw it. There must have been something earlier than that though. I know I saw both Terminator films and Die Hard before that, but I wouldn't call them gory.

Definitely feels like a Paul Verhoeven thread though.

I walked in on and watched Alien when I was a toddler. I saw Robocop and Terminator around the same age 3-5.

Yet none of them screwed me up as badly as walking in on a horror movie about flesh eating porcelain dolls. My parents did their best to keep me away from video games for as long as possible, yet they let all of that happen.

Robocop and Predator i mean i was 10 years old i think? Watched Robocop on tv and predator on vhs at a friends house..scared me shitless but became my favorite movies.

When I was extremely young, like maybe 5 or 6, me and my younger brother snuck under our parents bed and watched what I believe was a Mel Gibson movie, or some other ultra violent 80's movie. My parents had no idea we were there. I remember for years afterwards thinking at least 200 people were killed in the movie.

American Ninja was the most violent I watched with my parents present. I watched die hard 3 pretty young at a friends house.

Hard Boiled. I'd never seen anything like it at the time. I remember being in total shock both at how great it was, and how insanely over the top the violence was. So many people mowed down.... 0_o

My 12 year old mind was blown.

Yoooo I saw this when I was 13, by then I was well aware of crazy movie violence and I was starting to get into movies more. It was then and there I fell in love with John Woo movies.

Silence of the lambs, but I wasn't supposed to be watching it.

But my mom used to always watch shows like forescenic files and that shit had me paranoid for the longest time.

Robocop
The Nightmare on Elm Street films
Friday the 13th
Basket Case

Fuck I can go on. It was awesome growing up with an artistic father who did give a shit and a mother that was always at work or in church.

I could watch whatver I wanted. What scared me for days was hellrasier. The one I watched a ton was blood in blood out: bound by honor.

Out of curiosity, would The passion of the christ count? I saw it in 10th grade religion class or something, so it isn't the same, but man it was graphic.

Hah, mine was also Starship Troopers. I distinctly remember watching about ten seconds of the Klendathu landings when I was around five or six on t.v., it was when the news reporter gets killed at the start I think. Thinking back on it now, that small snippet birthed my obsession for science fiction that would manifest about five years after that. I eventually watched the full thing and enjoyed it, although it did feel very long at the time as I was about eleven or twelve. A few years after that I watched Rob Ager's analysis of it and now I love it even more.

A German movie called Premutos: The Fallen Angel. It's on YouTube in full, but it blows. When I was a kid I was really into horror, and of course mediocre horror movies are very common, but I learned while watching that one that there are a lot of disturbingly 100% awful horror movies that make me wonder how anyone would even want to be involved in them. Absolute garbage.

Natural Born Killers when I was 9/10. My grandparents let me watch pretty much anything.

But it was really Psycho that scarred me. Was always afraid to shower after seeing that ='(

Loved reading all the replies in this thread. Good stuff, guys!

My next store neighbor's son used to invite my sister and me over to watch movies when we were around 10-12 years old. Little did we know what were going to watch each time, but he chose some pretty violent films with the likes of Congo, Army of Darkness, Alien, Child's Play and Pet Cemetery.

I remember having to walk back to my house in the dark when the movie was done, and my imagination would get the better of me for the rest of the night...hahaha. Good times.

I was born in 86. I saw Robocop probably with 6-7, and many many others 80's flicks. I don't specifically remember being that impressed by Robocop's violence at that time . For instance i had a much harder time watching Total Recall or Dark Angel (even Robocop 2). Looking back It's definitely a violent movie.

Manga Entertainment started to release loads of anime, i loved the violence (i was 10 , a little more a little less) and one day i rented Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend

This was the only movie I watched as a kid that left me the impression I shouldn't be seeing it. It was too aggressive. Too extreme. The combination of violence and sexual nature freaked me out. I didn't even understand some of the imagery, which made me uncomfortable and doubtful how to react. It's completely bonkers. It contained a kind of malicious visual representation that had never crossed my eyes.

By far, the most violent thing i watched as a young guy.

Violent stuff never really phased me, I know I watched a lot if violent stuff as a mid but nothing sticks out.

Now one movie that really got to me was the rape scene in Stir of Echoes, I can still remember the fingernails bring ripped off.

I remember watching Aliens when I was 8 years old. I also remember watching Watership Down when I was younger than that. There was also Terminator 2 but I cannot remember how old I was, I just know I was told to go to bed when I finished my drink so I nursed it until the film was nearly finished and I was allowed to watch the end as I had already watched 95% of the movie.

when i was 8 years old, i managed to convince my mom to let me rent The Howling III (see a werewolf birth was really cool) but i think i topped that by watching Braindead (or Dead Alive for the USA) when I was 13 and rented that one (behind my parents back)

i'm still fairly normal, so no damage done :)

oh, I also managed to sneak in a viewing of Hellraiser when i was 10 :D
