What was the worst thing about the Matrix sequels?

The Lunch Legend

GAF's Nicest Lunch Thief and Nosiest Dildo Archeologist
The third one has way too much Zion stuff. No one cares about that.

Wasn't it more along the lines of neo knowing he couldn't beat Smith from the outside so let Smith assimilate him, knowing he was stronger and would be able to beat him from the inside.

That’s also part of it. It’s a bit of both really. The machines needed him gone and you’re right Neo couldn’t beat him outside so Neo was assimilated and the machines and Neo together beat Smith after assimilation.
They teamed up in a way to beat Smith.

It’s definitely not the best ending in anything ever, but surely not the worst.

After they came out and 'huge fans' wanted to debate the philosophical themes. I would ask what they thought of the new Oracle actress? They never noticed.

I preferred Gloria Foster, but that could not be helped.

I just always find it humorous when people don't notice recasting.

They leaned too heavily into the real world in the sequel but didn't make it interesting. The highway chase scene within the Matrix? Amazing. The underground scenes of a ruined world that didn't seem realistic even for sci-fi standards? Stupid. Well, to be more kind, clumsy.

The third movie was a complete waste of time. I get that they were trying to up the philosophical aspects but it was just boring, and having Agent Smith become a full blown virus that overwhelmed the system was a bit too much on the nose.

The first film is still a classic though.

Programs have to return to the Source to be destroyed. Smith is not designed to do that (he's balancing the One because The Architect's coding is autistic). Neo's bargain is to let himself be overwritten by Smith while connected to the Source, so the machines can delete Smith. This proves to the machines that the Oracle is right and the Architect's design is flawed, so they reboot the Matrix, reveal the truth about its nature to its inhabitants and leave Zion alone.

In Reloaded, the Architect says the machines would be fine with the Matrix crashing and killing its inhabitants, which happens if the One does not return to the Source.
The high-level conflict of the trilogy is between the Architect and the Oracle.

It appeared to me that living in the Matrix seemed more enjoyable than getting unplugged and living in a dirty shit hole.

I hate the sequels but that was already established in the first film. They drank borderline poisonous alcohol that was multi-purposed as fuel and ate some sort of shitty synthethized oatmeal for protein. They all look like hobos in the real world due to the harsh living conditions. Cypher betrays the crew because the Matrix is better.

The reason they fought for Zion wasn't because it was supposed to be some paradise.

Too many fight scenes.
Zion is dumb.
Every conversation is about something meta, which means no character interaction and no character development.
Mech suits that don’t protect you.
Neo is literally Jesus.
Too many “he’s the guy” type guys. No Cypher type normal acting people.

Worst of all? There’s a brief conversation that takes place in Reloaded I think right before the fight in the mansion where they talk about rogue programs that humans in the matrix treat as legends or myths. They cite werewolves and vampires and such as examples. There’s a knowing glance and smile between the baddies in the scene, but that’s it! No mention of it again at any point after that. How cool would that shit have been if Neo was fighting werewolves, vampires, etc. He fought the ghost twins (WHICH WERE THE MOST FUN BADDIES IN THE SEQUELS), but no one else was like them really. That could have been the focus of the second movie.

But, no. We get more boring agents. As much as I love Hugo Weaving, he should have stayed dead in the first movie.

I liked Reloaded for what it was. It was just good popcorn fun. Revolutions sucked though.

I hated how to explain all their plot holes they basically just went into pretentious circular logic. About not being able to make choices beyond choices you don’t understand and choice this choice that.

And then when at the end of Reloaded Neo could destroy sentinels outside of the Matrix. When he did that I was like ummm... no.

Main ones for me:
Matrix 1 was a self contained story that needed no sequel. And if you make the sequel it should be entirely in the real world as civilization rebuilds itself and goes to war.

Lacked all the social commentary of the first one. These were mindless.

Over reliance on CGI. Bad enough today, but they definitely did things that the tech was no where near ready for.

Zion sucked.

Basically all of this.

And I really hated all the pretentious meta philosophy bullshit the sequels brought in.
What a waste.
Next to Highlander 2 and Attack of the Clones, this was the worst disappointment I ever experienced in a cinema.

I was stupid enough to buy into the hype surrounding Blair witch when it came out in the 90s. What a monumental pile of shit and disappoint that film was.

The sequels were pretty good, but I feel that the creators spread out the story over multiple formats which might make some of the story seem confusing. For example, the animated collection called "animatrix" fully explained the story behind the machines and the ruined world. The videogame "enter the matrix" explained many of the strange characters in Reloaded and Revolution.

The average viewer was expected to view these extra media to appreciate the movies. However since the movies couldn't stand on their own, many viewers never bother discovering the extended story materials.

There was actually a whole movie inside the "enter the matrix" game if anyone is interested.

The Matrix was woke anti-white propaganda from the outset.

The false world of the Matrix is white and western, the "real world", Zion, is a multicultural melting pot.
Evil white Agents and Architect versus noble black Morpheus and Oracle
Evil white Cypher betrays noble black Tank for a life of white privilege inside the Matrix.
Evil white Merovingian is opposed by the noble Asian Seraph
White man Neo reboots evil white matrix and saves melting pot Zion by sacrificing himself so that the multicult utopia may live, thus fulfilling his destiny

Damn they were ahead of the woke curve

I thought the same thing and then was disappointed that they didn’t follow through. The twins were cool but they didn’t really explain anything about them. What were they? Agents from a previous version of the Matrix? Ghosts?

The worst part is resetting NEOs power level.
Second worst part was firing that one guy and bringing in his brother.

I took them to be ghosts, which would explain their mythical description given to humans still stuck in the matrix.

The rave scene is definitely up there. The awkward sex between neo and trinity. They look like siblings for christ's sake. So much really. Shit sequels to an overrated movie.

Maybe its the hidden fetish of the wachowski broth... uhm sisters.

The other one turned into a woman later so..
Maybe his sister was stuck somewhere ;)
