• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What was your previous PC spec, current PC, and planned future PC?

What were the specs of your previous PC?

What are the specs of your current PC?

And what would be the spec of your next planned PC?

Do you have any pattern or rules between ur PCs?

For me it'll be

Previous PC
Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB VRAM
Intel i7 5820k
16GB RAM
1TB HDD
240mm AIO
Price around $1500.00 after tax which includes paying my friend to build it.

Current PC
Nvidia RTX 5070TI 16GB VRAM
AMD Ryzen 9800XD3
32GB DDR5 6000 RAM
2TB SSD
360mm AIO
Price at $1900.00 before tax in a Microcenter New Pre-Built

Next planned PC
Nvidia RTX 9070 32GB VRAM
Kyron CPU Chip
64GB RAM
4TB SSD
360mm AIO
Hoping to get it at around $2500.00 or lower before tax and as a pre built at Microcenter again.

My rules are I'll only buy a new PC for some big difference like over 100% at least for raw power with my GPU and CPU. And my VRAM, System RAM, and Storage must all be double each time. Also increase my spending by around 500 each time if needed.

Future build:
No telling, but I do plan on buying another pre-built. Fear I wouldn't know what I'm doing if I built one myself.

I've had many builds over the years but the most recent one was an 11600K I think it was with a 2080 Super. Later on I upgraded to my current CPU a 13600K, the 2080 Super crapped out during Covid and I ended up forking for a 3070. I recently changed that 3070 for a 5070ti.

For the future it depends of two factors: One that the i5 equivalent Intel CPU presents a meaningful improvement and that DDR5 RAM comes back to reasonable prices.

I recently built a couple of 9600X based systems (one with a 5060 and another one for the 3070 I released) and it gave me some trouble so I'm thinking of sticking to Intel for the time being.

Previous PC
Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB VRAM
Some intel haswell that was released in 2014
16GB RAM
1TB HDD / 256GB SSD
240mm AIO
Just under 1K because of a Processor/MOBO combo from Fry's Electronics

Current PC
Nvidia RTX 4080
AMD Ryzen 7800X3D
32GB DDR5 6000 RAM
2TB SSD / 2TB SSD
Noctua NH-D15
Price....uhhh....I dunno 2200?

Next planned PC
Nothing, same for the PS5 these are both my "last" console/pc's in terms what appeals to me but I still enjoy the hobby which I went all out on 4080. I've always done mid-range GPUs

My previous build was an i5 4670 build with 16GB DDR3 RAM. I made it in 2014. First GPU i used with it was a GTX 960 and upgraded it soon after with a GTX1060 6GB.

This build lasted me almost a decade.

My current build is an i5 12400 with 64GB DDR5 RAM. First GPU with it was a 3060 12GB and i upgraded it to a 5060ti 16GB.

This build is also supposed to last for a decade as well. The CPU should be good enough until then, given how CPUs barely get any better anymore. And the RAM is plenty. Will probably change the GPU once more in between.

I'm satisfied with my current PC and will ride it out for a long time. Maybe Ill do a new build when the new Cyberpunk comes out or something.

Previous was an i5 15600k with a GTX 1080, which was a motherboard/cpu/ram upgrade from the pre-previous i7 6700k.
A few months later (early 2025) I said fuck it and bought a pre-built 9800x3D with a 5080.

My old mother uses the i5 & 1080 now. Perfect for Mahjong and DxBall2.

  • Who fucking knows but at the rate everything is going it's gonna be nothing/I won't be building another PC.
I love PC gaming and I've been pc gaming since I was a little kid in the late 90s our shitty pc we had that could barely run anything but I've also always been a console person as well and played on both. I don't however like where PC gaming has gone in the past 5 or so years and where it continues to go.

Also technically my current pc has gone through a couple different configurations but I chose to do full builds for the thread. I originally had a 3060ti before the 4070S, and I had upgraded to a 9700x but returned it. I also have had a couple different ITX cases before I finally settled on the Terra which I really love.

RTX 6080 (?)

Previous PC - bought 2021 for $910 USD:
AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600G
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 (12 GB GDDR6)
16 GB DDR4-3200
256 SSD

Current PC - bought early 2025 for $950 USD:
Intel Core i9 9900k
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 Ti Super (16 GB GDDR6X)
64 GB DDR5-5600
1TB NVMe

Future PC:
Likely cannot afford one, I'm really hoping my current PC can float me until this crazy pricing subsides. Or until I can find a good deal like I've done on the last two, but that seems unlikely considering my graphics card now costs as much as my entire PC did this time last year.

Previous PC1:

Ryzen 5 5600X
Asus B550M TUF
RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X
16 GB DDR4 Teamgroup
1.5 TB SSD Adata
850W XPG
Windows 11 Pro

Previous PC2:

i7 4770
Asus B85-G43
GTX 1660 Ti
16 GB DDR3 FuryX
120 GB SSD
1.5 TB HDD
650W XFX
Arch Linux

Current PC1:

Ryzen 7 5700X3D
Asus B550M TUF
RTX 5070 Ti
32 GB DDR4 Teamgroup
2.5 TB SSD Adata
850W XPG
Windows 11 Pro

Current PC2:

Ryzen 5 5600X
Maxsun B550M
RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X
16 GB DDR4 Teamgroup
1 TB SSD Adata
850W XPG
Arch Linux

I don't have any upgrade plans right now, I'll wait until AM6 comes out. Or maybe I'll go back to using Intel.
For the PC2, I might switch to a workstation CPU. I've also thought about future Intel GPUs.

My current PC is

Ryzen 9 7900X
RTX 4070 Ti Super 16 GB
128 GB Corsair DDR5 6000

I'm not really thinking about what's next. I might upgrade the GPU when I need more VRAM for productivity but what I have is more than enough for my current needs. Gaming is a secondary use case for my PC.

I don't have dedicated box PC, my laptop is my PC, sometimes I connect them to my monitor.

Previous:
MSI GF63 Thin with Intel 9300h, GTX 1050Ti, and 24GB RAM.

Current:
A work laptop, lenovo thinkbook, with Intel 10750h and GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q,
Legion go s z2, the cheaper one, with steam OS,
and macbook pro m4 pro (not exactly pc but I use parallel to play some little games).

They worked fine since I mainly play visual novel, indies, jrpg, and old games. I don't need extra power right now.

Plan for future:
Perhaps next generation of steam deck and new laptop with newer amd apu like asus rog flow.

Previous PC
  • Nvidia RTX 2080ti 12GB VRAM
  • Intel i7 9700k
  • 32GB DDR4 RAM
  • 2TB NVME SSD gen3
  • 120mm Twin Air Cooler
  • Price around $2000 with sales from various stores (Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy), currently re-using most of these parts in my Unraid NAS/Server. Sold the GPU for $500 to a friend.
Current PC
  • Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB VRAM
  • Intel i7 13700k
  • 64GB DDR5 5200 RAM
  • 4TB SSD gen4
  • 240mm AIO
  • Price at $2300.00 with sales from various stores (Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy). I usually double my RAM each new desktop PC, since I need it for rendering.
Next planned PC
  • Nvidia RTX 7070ti 32GB VRAM or equivalent AMD if cheaper/better
  • AMD whatever has good core count + cache for games. (Having to update my motherboard's cpu micro-code twice to keep the 13700k alive, gonna skip intel next time.)
  • 128GB RAM DDR6?
  • Probably 4TB SSD gen5 if it benefits games, otherwise I'll just re-use what I have
  • I'm actually going to go back to air coolers, so probably Noctua NH-D15 G2
  • Hoping it might go down to $2000.00 or stay the same, given I'm going to go down to a RTX XX70ti, since high-end has hit more diminished return. Only AI usage might make me stay high-end.

My usual rule is I build a new desktop every 4-6 years, depending on if the hardware jump is worth it in improved performance or unique new features. Given CPU/GPU stagnation, likely going to keep this machine longer. I'm going to just re-use this Fractal Design Define 7 case again for the next PC, and my current PC parts will just be thrown in my Unraid server to replace the older stuff there. Unraid's OS is on the flash drive, so I can sub out the parts, and it will pick up the same HDDs & SSDs by serial number.

  • 1070ti
Price point was ~1500€ in 2012, but with a GTX680. Got that 1070ti later for 300€ when I upgraded to 1440p.

Current
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact Light Tint
  • ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F
  • G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 3200 MHz 32 GB (4x8 GB) CL16
  • Alpenföhn Gletscherwasser 240 High Speed
  • Fractal Design ION+ 2 860W 80+ Platinum
  • ZOTAC RTX 5070ti solid core
  • WD SN7100 2 TB, SSD
Price point was 1418€ in August of 2025.

Future

Got no plans for a new system yet. I hope the current one will allow me 5-10 years of gaming.
But I'm tempted to get a Steam Machine, because it's cute and I like the Deck and its ecosystem

Not gonna go too far into imagination land with OP and his fuckin' Star Wars Kyber Crystal build. I'll just say I kinda want the multi-framegen but most of my gaming is competitive mulitplayer style where real frames and lowest latencies suit me. I'm currently on a 270hz display, next upgrade will be 500+ which I'm thinking pairs real nice with the aforementioned MFG. I have zero major complaints with my current rig so I feel like I can wait out the RAM shortages and whatnot, and if push comes to shove I'll eat the premium pricing when upgrade time comes.

Plan is to upgrade to a 6070 Ti (Rubin) some time next year or beyond. Not going for a full platform change until AM6 and DDR6. 100% on board with a Steam Deck 2, whenever that comes.

Maybe a GPU Rubin/RDNA5 upgrade and 5070 Ti goes in HTPC.
Next-gen console CPU spec seems pretty weak especially on the PS6 HW, so I'll probably keep the rest for some time unless some amazing flash deal on some late AM5 processor emerges.

And:

5090 TUF

Next:

Probably downgrading the 5090 TUF to a 9070 XT and use Bazzite on it, making it even more "console like", as that rig is connected to a living room TV.

Edit: Just remenbered the HDMI 2.1 issues with AMD and Linux, so a potential downgrade on the TV rig will probably be the 5070 TI and continue using Windows / Steam big picture mode, with bloat like copilot deactivated.

Next proper upgrade:

Probably what's within current high end pricing in 3-4 years, and still feels like a solid upgrade from the 5090 (rtx 7080?)
The future 90-class cards will probably be too expensive.
